Detailed Reviews
Stunning views from the hotel and terrace, old-fashioned charm, comfortable rooms and great rooftop pool. The staff all are very kind and friendly, especially Adriana, who went out of her way to help me in a crisis. Beds are a bit lumpy but I still slept very well and felt very safe and relaxed here. 10 minute walk to the centre.

We visited here by chance, and went back for drinks and the music several times. The views are fantastic ; particularly watching Funchals lights come on in the evening. We didn’t stay here, but formed a very positive view of the staff, who couldn’t do enough for you, the drinks, and the ambience.

Stayed Jan 00. The hotel had lots of charm and character. Our room had parquet floors, the room inc. bathroom was immaculate. The view from the room was not large but was pleasant. Hotel was VERY well located for cdentral Funchal: only 10 mins down quite a steep hill. Breakfast could have been better.

This hotel has a stunning placement in a top of a hill with an unique view.
The staff is very welcoming and make their best to try hard to help the guest to feel welcome. However, it was hard. The rooms are really updated, no wifi, water pressure is really low, bathroom leaks, cracks on the walls. It really needs a real investment.
The chocking is the breakfast, so basic within a country which is proud on their food.
There is a swimming pool with a beautiful view. The hotel has 2 buildings one is an extension with a swimming pool, more modern though the bathrooms still smelly.
It is handy to have space for 3 cars to park but good luck arriving early to get them.

This was the worst hotel experience ever. Room - very hot, stall, and stunk, no air con and only window in room opened onto small 4x2 enclosed courtyard which was roasting again airless and mosquito and ant infested. Ants throughout room with old trap in hall between bedroom and bathroom. Air in room so bad and hot I was sick in the night. Room infested with mosquitos due to window being open on our arrival, and unable to sleep due to heat and being bitten (despite repellant).
Bathroom - bath had multiple rust spots, and shower not much more than a trickle.
Breakfast - flies everywhere
No dining past breakfast and closest restaurants within a mile, but very twisty roads/pavements where located and no sat nav difficult to use in area/very easy to get lost. Staff not very helpful.
Very dated hotel and badly needs upgraded. We stayed only one night, and moved to alternative hotel, but charged for all nights.

It may be 'okay' if you stay in the main building. If you get given a room in the mouldy Annex near the pool, it is not!
Disgusting that they take money from people and make them stay in an uninhabitable room by health standards! See photos. I wish I could add more. The stained pillows, mouldy bathroom, next to zero water pressure.
I am a solo female traveller and the door also had gaps meaning anyone could look in directly seeing the bed.
Staff said hotel was at capacity and walked away, nothing else offered.
I've stayed in 1* hotels in South America with better rooms and better customer service. Avoid if you value your health

I travel solo since March 2010 and this was my worst experience ever.
Room: It is terrible, in the annex, not in the main building. No internet, no TV, no AC, no fridge, no hair dryer, no kettle, no shampoo in the bathroom. There is a horrible smell in the room. The toilet does not work well. The ink is falling down. The light is insufficient. There are warnings forbidding so many things that I wondered if this was some kind of prison. Even the key to the room as a horrible aspect. I did not take any pictures. All I want is to forget.
Reception: Terrible too. The floor makes noise, Some members of the staff were unfriendly. At about 8:30 I would go out and only come back after dark.
Breakfast: The worst ever. I had better in hostels. Instead of fresh fruit, there was canned fruit. The bread was horrible. On the third day I quit it. There was no sweetener. The eggs were not fully cooked.
This stay was a total nightmare. I could not relax at any time. Not even watch a movie, since there was no TV and no internet.

Absolutely loved this place !! But beware. !! Not for the faint hearted. !! Room 35 recommended but we didn't get that one. Supermarket 500 meters away for supplies. Pool with eagles and cruise ships. This must be the most value for money offer going.

Me and my wife took a last-minute travel deal to Madeira and did not knew this hotel beforehand. The hotel surprised us with a very convenient location - only 800m to city center - which I consider important, especially when you are in a city where temperatures are high and streets can be very steep. Taken together this makes even a short walk quite strenous even for younger people. Driving with taxi is also not a good choice in Funchal city center for short trips. The streets are very crowded and the taxi price starts from the time of the placing an order - not when the taxi arrives, which may take considerable amount of time during a rush hour. We were also warned by our guide and some fellow travellers that taxi drivers in Funchal try to impose high charges for tourists by not using the meter or choosing longer routes than necessary. The hotel itself was pleasant and the staff friendly. When I got sick during the last days of my stay we received a late check-out with no additional charge, which is seldom possible in low-cost and pre-paid travel package deals. The views from the hotel were are nice due to the reason that the hotel is located in a high place (see the pictures for further details). Our room was in the 4th floor at the back of the hotel, which had a good views and was very silent. Please notice, however, that the rooms may vary since the MC hotel consists of several buildings instead of one and the elevator is located in the main building. The rooms also have only basic equipment: no refridgerators or air conditioning and the shower has a low water pressure. About other things I could mention that although the hotel has a pool - which in itself is a good thing since Madeira does not have sand beaches - the pool area it is not very large and tends to be quite crowded when hotel is full since it has only a limited amount of sun chairs for the pool users.

Hi
I'm not sure that many did. We had a great view from a room at the front of the hotel and there's a nice seating area at the front that looks over to the sea and port.
Hope that helps.
hello hoping to stay very soon can you get a cooked breakfast xx
