We love staying at Les Suites at the Cliff Bay. We had a garden suite with our own private garden area overlooking the sea and the standard of accomodation and facilites is impeccable. This time we introduced friends to the Portobay experience and they too are now hooked!
We stayed on the Prestige Package which includes return luxury airport transfers, two dinners in the Avista Restaurant. one dinner in the Two Michelin Star Il Gallo D'Oro Restaurant, an afternoon tea, a discount Spa voucher and a lovely touch is a free bottle of Madeira wine collected at the airport on departure.
The staff are clearly happy in their roles and work hard to deliver a quality experience to their guests. The food in the Avista Restaurant served in the open air is extremely high quality and the menu choices varied while dinner in the Il Gallo D'Oro is an experience not to be missed.
This really is a quality holiday destination. Perfect hotel accomodation coupled with beauty of Madeira and we look forward to returning time and time again. Obrigado and see you soon.

This gem on the rocky coast of Madeira is beyond outstanding for even the most discerning travellers. The two floor sea side rooms with a private internal elevator between the floor is you choose not to walk up the modern wood stairs are luxurious and practical. The large modern bathrooms with double sinks and separate shower and tub areas are brightly decorated in newly installed granite and reflect the light coming in from the generous and very private double balconies in each floor. The staff was very accommodating and helpful with each and all requests (including a rapid turn around for muddy laundry after a very wet hike in the levadas). Les Suites is truly the 6 star wing of The Cliffs. Book without hesitation. If I had to actively look for an area of improvement, the large king size beds are actually two double mattresses put together, which may be odd for some couples. Nonetheless, I would rank this as one of the very top island hotels in the Caribbean and North Atlantic- without question.

Me and my family had a room on the second floor and we were actually the first guests ever to stay in that room (our trip was about a week after the hotel opened) and the room was beautiful and everything was practical and I didn't see even one piece of dust there during our one week stay. There were three of us in one room, and the extra bed was actually a bed, not just a uncomfortable sofa opened up to a bed, which was a very very nice touch to the whole hotel experience.
The views everywhere from of the hotel were unreal and I especially enjoyed eating some delicious breakfast on Avista's terass watching the catamarans pass by. We had afternoon tea twice in the same views and both times were unbelievably enjoyable.
The staff was friendly, helpful and clearly knew what they were doing. All points to them.
All guests of Les Suites have access anywhere in the Cliff Bay hotel, but the Cliffbay guests didn't have access to the Les Suites grounds, which was a definite plus. Speaking of, we went to explore the gardens of Cliff Bay, which were as beautiful and well kept as the gardens on Les Suites' areas. We also ate breakfast in Il Gallo D'Oro once and it was good too, yet nowhere as good as the Avista breakfast.
All in all, I have nothing but good to say about this incredible hotel. I couldn't mention all things in this review, such as the amazing gym and yoga studio, all the delicious foods we enjoyed there, the nice tour we got of Les Suites AND The Cliff Bay, and just the pure happiness this hotel experience gave us.
If you're even a bit interested in this hotel, don't hesitate, book it right now!

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Les Suites which were built a year ago. The Suite was spacious and nicely furnished. Water and fruit where brought to the room each day. The infinite pool and loungers were kept spotlessly clean and towels for loungers were plentiful there is also a bar which serves drinks and snacks. The Avista restaurant was superb, breakfast is served there each morning and the choice is very good. A reservation is required for dinner, we dined there every evening. The staff are second to none, they are professional, attentive, friendly and extremely helpful. The menu is excellent with a different fish of the day and different dessert every evening. The Covid rules are adhered to with plenty hand gel available throughout the hotel and leisure areas, residents temperatures are checked each time one returns from outside the hotel. We will most certainly return to Les Suites at Cliff Bay next year.

We took the plunge on Wednesday 28th October and decided to book a flight on Friday at the last minute - flight wasn't busy, forecast ok, and importantly we felt healthy enough to risk the covid test at Funchal airport. The testing at Funchal was very well organised, and after arriving mid afternoon we self isolated in our room at Les Suites enjoying room service for dinner. Our negative result was emailed through at 05.00 the next morning. We have stayed at the Cliff Bay many times so knew what to expect, friendly attentive service, good food and very comfortable surroundings. Apart from minor grumbles with a poor Wi-Fi connection, everything lived up to expectation. We stayed in a Suite for one week and enjoyed every minute. All credit to Porto Bay and their architect for creating this boutique addition out of what previously seemed to be two tumbledown houses and an impossibly small bit of land. In my humble opinion it is a visionary development, and they have created a piece of magic out of what seemed nothing, and now fits in as if it has always been there. The infinity pool works very well with beautiful views over the bay, The Avista restaurant was excellent, and all in all they have worked hard to create a safe feeling environment in these covid times. A huge thanks to the whole team, we will look forward to our next visit in hopefully less restrictive times. Stay safe!

Newly build ,Very high standard .Wonderful comfy beds and furnishings spacious lounge area Mini kitchen .Very quiet although low season at present.Wonderful setting over looking the sea and a lovely infinity pool (not cold even in January!) All the staff from the pool attendant Mauro to the restaurant staff and reception and maid all very helpful and attentive .High end and not cheap but also very high all round experience We did a weekend break(3 nights) as Jet2 have Friday flights as well as Mondays until the end of March 2020..Great to get a burst of sunshine!!Attention to detail as we had a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine and a birthday cake left in out room to celebrate a significant birthday and also an upgrade to a private garden suite!

We have just returned from our second visit to this fabulous hotel and we were just as impressed with all aspects as we were on our first visit, Check in was friendly and effortless and we were greeted with “welcome back” by the lovely young lady on reception. On this occasion we were upgraded to the Garden Suite - a two roomed suite with its own private garden.
The porter was on hand to deal with our luggage and proved us with a welcome drink, a choice of soft drink, Madeira Wine or sparkling wine.
The accommodation was as comfortable as we had expected and compared favourably with our last visit - Comfortable sitting room with chocolates,fruit, water and champagne on ice. The king sized double beds in the separate bedroom were the epitome of comfort and the enormous bathroom was equipped with bath, shower ( including rainwater shower) toilet,bidet and double sinks. There were plentiful supplies of BVLGARI toiletries which were regularly replenished throughout our stay.
We ate breakfast and almost all dinners in the Avista restaurant where the menu was extensive. Special mention must be made to the staff in the Avista - waitresses Vanessa and Katya as well as supervisors Fatima, Katya, Kyril and one other who’s name escapes me but he will know who I mean when I wish him well for his forthcoming wedding!
One evening we opted to dine in the Cliff Bay Rose Garden restaurant where the food and service were up to our expectations.
As on our last visit , Carla, on reception was most helpful regarding our departure and took time to assist us with our requests despite the fact that she was helping with the training of Ana, a hospitality student.
We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our relaxing vacation and look forward to our next visit, already arranged for October

Booked by Jet2 Indulgent Escapes for a week away. Found the hotel to be excellent in all respects. Checked in by Kathy who was efficient, helpful and friendly.We were staying in room 63 which was a Duplex Suite- Livingroom downstairs and bedroom upstairs. We even had an in suite Elevator!!! Both rooms were beautifully furnished with all necessary amenities Plentiful BVLGARY toiletries in both bathrooms - upstairs and down. spacious balconies at both levels. Breakfast and dinner were served in the Avista restaurant by friendly, efficient staff. Special mention for Isabella, Vanessa and two Robertos.Thank you by MR BOB Quality of food was excellent and plentiful with a wide choice .When it came time to leave we were assisted in printing the necessary documentation for Covid procedures by Carla. once again nothing was too much trouble. We booked the Cliff bay hotel based on comments of other guests and I have to say this was a great choice because the hotel provided best service with splendid view and facilities
We were upgraded to Les suites when checking in, the room Duplex suite stretched to 2 floors, both with comfortable massive bed (2 double beds joint). Each floor has infinity balcony with sea view, there is also a lift inside the suite, shower room with the best shower head I’ve ever used, so powerful!
Rooms are exceptional clean and maintained everyday. Housekeeping ladies are very nice and polite
Hotel has best views and you can discover so many hidden gems across the Cliff bay side as well as les suite side. Infinity pool is nice we use almost everyday. Tried indoor pool at the Cliff bay also nice. Played table tennis outdoor facing the sea, wonderful. Celebrated daughters 7th birthday at Avista restaurant and hotel provided with a nice cake. Food was delicious and staff were faultless
Checking out at 12 and because our flight is late in the evening so hotel generously allowed us to use all facilities till our transfer arrived.
We stayed in many 5 star hotels across the world and by far Les suite is top of the list. Well done Les suite and we will surely come back

I treated myself to „Les Suites“ as a retirement present in this beaufiful new addition to the Cliff Bay.
As with the Cliff Bay the staff are first rate & made my stay. The design is exceptional and environmentally friendly fitting in with the natural beauty of the area.
Two traditional villas have been beautifully restored providing a reception and a great new restaurant & bar Avista.
I stayed in a suite with private garden looking over the ocean towards Funchal , stunning views and also quiet & peaceful.
Latest technology has been used throughout & there is a well equipped new gym.
All in all a fantastic holiday with special recognition to the staff thankyou ! I Will be back for more pampering.

The duplex overlooks the pool, ok if it's quiet. We had No 44 which came with its own terrace garden, perhaps not quite as much as a view as the floor above but excellent nonetheless. Easily the best room we have stayed in anywhere. Great staff, wonderful fish restaurants everywhere. Enjoy
There are more places to choose from in the Funchal area.
