My wife and myself are currently holidaying in Madeira and having spent our first week at the impressive Casa Velha do Palheiro Hotel, the second and third ones at Quinta Splendida Botanical Gardens & Wellness Centre at nearby Canico (see subsequent Reviews), we are now spending our last 6 nights in a 2 Bedroomed Apartment in Palheiro Village.
The Village itself is made up of a variety of different Apartments and Villas and accessed either via the Main Gate or the entrance next to Palheiro Golf Clubhouse - extremely convenient for visitors such as ourselves without a car(something strongly recommended for those planning on exploring the Island) looking to play golf and eat at the Clubhouse (see Reviews) as well as visit Funchal. The latter can be assessed by local Bus No38 with the Stops conveniently located near the Main Entrance.
Other facilities available to Village guests include a nice Swimming Pool area which also has a table tennis table and equipment.
On the Management front, the key person is Cristina who is based at the Golf Clubhouse. She was extremely helpful both before our visit and throughout our stay. In addition, all the Palheiro properties are COVID compliant with masks still required inside and no shortage of hand sanitizers.
Another most enjoyable aspect to our return visit to this lovely Island which we will, no doubt, repeat before too much longer!

Fabulous two week stay at Palheiro Village in a spacious two bed apartment. The pool area was lovely. The Saturday BBQ at the Golf Clubhouse was super or to pop in and have a snack or drink. Just a lovely tranquil place to stay and recharge! Good local taxi service for access to Funchal.

Altogether 8 months I've lived at Palheiro Village (2016-2018) I love this place and I highly recommend it if you're in Funchal. If you play golf it's THE place you should stay at. So don't even consider crowded tourist areas if you want to relax. Enjoy your stay is all I can say.

OK - I know Madeira is very hilly but I would choose somewhere different if I come back.
The complex is a nice range of apartments and villas but the hills from the bottom apartments to the golf course are just ridiculous unless you want to drive everywhere.
The Clubhouse offering a simple food menu and drinks is nowhere near the outdoor or indoor pools. The staff in the Clubhouse are friendly but very few people around due to current restrictions.
The 2 bedroom apartments are of a nice size but unfortunately you can hear people moving furniture in adjoining apartments and also when they use the toilets.
No other restaurants within walking distance of the complex but supermarkets a few KM away.
Would I stay here again - no

A perfect place to stay! Lovely, attractive, spacious, comfortable, well equipped apartment with good swimming pool and beautiful coastal views. Loved the peacefulness, yet close to Funchal and other main attractions such as Monte and the Botanical Gardens.
The staffs are very friendly and helpful.
It is on a very steep hill and a car is essential for exploring the island.
Highly recommended

One of the best apartment we have experienced and very good availability to golf at Palheiro Golf Course. It was necessary to have a rented car because of the large difference in hight latitudes.
We got our physical training mainly on the golf course.

Lovely view, but rental home rife w/ unsafe conditions, broken appliances, poor cleaning,& outrageous fees. Complaints ignored by Vera at rental company- we were told the owner of the home would not authorize turning on lights inside the home and on the steep incline of the backyard to save money, not to use the dryer, etc. 3 guests, including me fell down unlit stairs. Rental company charged 500 euros for heating a pool that was broken even though their own staff reported same. I put down the security deposit for the renter of the home. In the end, Vera at Palheiro Village charged my debit card for the contract she entered into with someone else because my card was on file. I got bagged paying over $10K for a home I didn't rent and almost died as a guest. Renter beware!

We stayed in apartment no. 12 which was well furnished with a fabulous view of Funchal. Amr, the manager, was extremely helpful. You definitely need a car and the walk up to the pool is not for the faint hearted. However for the first 10 days of August the church down the hill has its annual festival, which unfortunately includes very loud music being broadcast via loudspeakers to the entire neighbourhood every evening from 7 to between 11 and midnight. The music was loud enough to be heard over the TV with all the doors closed, so sitting on the balcony in the evening was out of the question. Amr did try to talk to them but to no avail. I would definitely recommend the Palheiro Village just not in the first 2 weeks of August.

First let's get the obvious out the way.... Yes you really need a car if you want to stay here, although I'm told the bus runs frequently from the entrance if you have the thighs to walk down and up the hill. It's a short drive to Funchal and there is plenty of underground parking in the centre just look for the signs.
We were in apartment 66, not sure it's actually what we would call an apartment as it was huge! Beautifully decorated with everything you need to have a great holiday. The views are amazing, but if you are lucky some of the apartments further along have uninterrupted views from downstairs and upstairs. If you arrive out of hours the security guard at the gate will sort out getting you into your room. The maids do a great job and come twice a week.
The pool area is nice, great views and towels and beds are supplied and we never went short.
We found the hotel restaurant to be rediculously expensive but the golf club was a little better. Head down into Funchal for the best food, La Vaca Negra is our absolute favourite if you want the best steak you've ever eaten! Chris' place was also very nice and all were cheaper than eating on the premises.
Reception can hold your luggage until they close at 6pm if you have a later flight like we did and were really helpful.
The only thing I would recommend to the property owners are, some furniture on the balconies outside the 2 bedrooms as at the moment they are just a bit of a waste of space, and apparently a full length mirror in the apartment somewhere would be really useful for the girls! Other than that, pretty much perfect! Thanks for a great holiday. Would love to return at some point in the future.

This was our second visit to Palheiro Village and this time we stayed for a month. If you want a to enjoy some peace & quiet yet be close to Funchal when you feel like letting your hair down. Then this is the place.
And if you don't feel like cooking you can walk up (and I do mean up) to the club house for an excellent meal.
The apartments are extremely well-apppointed and the views toward Funchal from the veranda are stunning.
However, the village is built on the side of a mountain so you need strong legs or a car or both.
We just had legs and managed quite well. For those without a car there is a bus stop right outside the gates.

Dear Mr. Sally,
Villa is on top of Palheiro Village and the bus stop is on the bottom and no walking shops are available,
you can always use buses and taxis to Funchal, supermarks, etc,
The weather in May normaly is good but not summer,
If you want to see the Island a bus is not good option
Kind regards
Hi, I have stayed 3 times & always phone them with my card details for deposit.
Even on my PAYG phone it cost me 2p a minute for Portugal. I think it is safer as there are more & more email scams nowadays.
Regards
Bob
Good afternoon and thank you for your interest.
YES; the villas all have either 2 of 3 bathrooms ( depending upon the style of villa). What are your desired travel dates?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Vera
Good afternoon Nick!
I replied via telephone already, just making sure !
Yes, all of the villas have wonderful outdoor seating areas.
Hope to welcome you as guests. Kind regards,
Vera
Hi, there is a pool at the village part, where that apartments are and didn't think there was a charge for using that one and it's as big as the one up at the hotel. The indoor one at the spa is not massive prob about 15 m long, it's big enough for relaxing and there are jet beds in it. We booked in for some spa treatments and so paid for the treatments themselves, to be honest the pool outside at the spa was not heated and we were there in December so didn't go in! Went in the one at the bottom. Which was heated and just warm enough in the middle of December for a swim. If you are staying at the village if you email Vera she will help you, she was a great help for us and if you look at the spa website they have the treatment costs, we booked before we went, and email them, the girl there was great too. It's a great place to stay ☺. Just fyi we ate at the golf house and enjoyed our meal too.
