This Pestana property demonstrates all that is great about providing great customer service at a large hotel - name recognition, friendly and caring staff, attention to detail, relaxed and unhurried attitude yet speed when required. Front desk, housekeeping and restaurant staff aced this ~10 night stay. Solid breakfast buffet ( with fresh orange juice to die for) available from 7-11 ( great hours compared to other hotels ) provided by a superb team who made us feel very much at home. Parking is easy - free parking often available outside and very reasonably priced paid underground parking under the hotel itself with direct elevator access to all hotel floors. Location is good with walkability to nearby shops, restaurants, waking areas and walkable to central Funchal. We can’t recommend this hotel enough.

Just back from another fantastic week in Madeira. Renewed our membership of Pestana Vacation Club! This hotel is still my favourite. Noticed it was a lot busier than previously which means others have discovered it!! Great breakfasts with everything you could possibly want. Rooms well appointed, kept nice and clean by lovely housekeeping staff. Very handy for walks along the prom where there are some excellent restaurants and a handy Pingo Doce supermarket. Also convenient for the Forum shopping centre and the fabulous cat themed shop which has the most gorgeous household items. Bus stop outside hotel takes you to Funchal in minutes for 1.95 euros or buy giro card which you can top up with credit against journeys on the buses. You get the giro card at shops that show a yellow giro sign - near four views monumental hotel and shop across from tourist info office at the seafront in Funchal. Taxis outside hotel too and cheap to Funchal 6/10 euros. Cant wait to go back!

We had a side sea view room which faced back towards Funchal & we were very happy with this choice. We had the morning sun on the balcony, we were sheltered from the wind off the sea & it was very quiet & peaceful. The hot afternoon sun would have been too much for us on the balcony. The gardens are absolutely superb.
The outdoor pools were lovely, not too deep & quiet enough to swim for exercise. There were ample sunbeds & parasols, the assistants were always on
hand to make sure we had a parasol when we wanted one. Pool towels come from the room, we took them back there & they were replaced next day.
Our room had a kitchen area with kettle, cups, pans, hob & microwave but I don’t know about other rooms. We took a travel kettle but I believe you can get one from reception.
Covid tests midweek were still necessary & we asked Alexandra on reception to book us in at a local pharmacist. She was happy to help & was very efficient, thank you to Alexandra.
There were offers on in the spa which we wanted to take advantage of but during a week of our stay we only saw one staff member in the spa once, on the first day.
I left my request with name & phone number with reception & they passed it on to reception but we were not contacted. At the end of the holiday I was told it was the room number not my telephone number that I should have left, so probably my fault.
Breakfast was great, Continental or English, plenty of everything & it was nice to sit outside each morning. We enjoyed the evening meal too, it was the usual hotel food, good & hot, no complaints.
Buses into Funchal are regular, number 02. Taxis cost about 7 euros to Funchal & are outside the hotel.
My only gripe was that after breakfast we couldn’t get into our room as the battery went in the lock. We told reception about this & about the safe not working, (had to have a whole new unit), the lights in the kitchen & wardrobe had stopped working & the tv didn’t work, all the leads had been pulled out & the batteries had gone in the remote control.
We waited by the pool, in the hot sun & returned to our room at intervals. At about 12.30 we asked at reception & she called the repair man directly, he arrived about 20 minutes later to let us in. We just found it ridiculous that they didn’t let us in with a master key to get our swimwear, that we had to wait a whole morning to access our room.
I would definitely recommend the hotel & will return again, all in all it was great.

We booked this hotel thinking we were booking a nearby hotel that had received a name change since we had stayed previously and really enjoyed our time there. The Pestana Promenade (a different animal altogether) needs a refurb and we were disappointed with the Pestana experience. On a positive note, the dining room staff are brilliant both in efficiency and as ambassadors for the hotel, and that is the only good thing I can say about this hotel. The chambermaids are friendly but the service they provide is poor. Toiletries were not always replenished, we bought some at the supermarket in the end. No iron or ironing board provided and it was as though we were asking for gold when we requested one, we were also asked to return these “immediately” we had used them. The breakfasts were acceptable, but nothing special. It felt as though once a variety of jam had run out then it was marmalade only until the delivery arrived the following week. There is no luggage room provided for people leaving later in the day, our luggage was placed near the front door all day and the reception staff were dismissive of our concerns about lack of security. We asked if we could stay in the room until late but unfortunately for us it was going to be occupied. No alternative room was offered which after a 3 week stay seems to be poor customer service. I think the reception staff were poor at their job, management need to look at how they operate. We will avoid Pestana in future, it is a second rate hotel chain

We’ve just spent 10 days at this hotel and it’s our second visit here. The first time was 6 years ago and it was still as good as we remembered it. The rooms are a generous size and all have either a balcony or terrace (ground floor). We were first given a room with a little kitchenette but unfortunately the balcony was quite small and directly looked towards other rooms and balconies (which we didn’t want). We asked if another room was available looking directly out to sea and they found us one available from the next day which was perfect. It was room no. 1426 but any of the rooms on the 4th floor from 1418 I would think would be equally as good. We had a good size balcony with table and 2 chairs which was perfect for a couple of takeaway meals! We opted for bed and breakfast only and The buffet breakfast at the hotel was excellent. Plenty of choice for all tastes. The evening buffet is quite expensive (currently 25Eur per person) but we decided we would try the fish buffet one night. Unfortunately we were disappointed with it as there was no local fish in it apart from prawns. Only had mackerel and salmon as the other options. We had hoped for some North Atlantic fish, maybe cod or parrot fish for example. The hotel staff did say they would mention it to the Chef so maybe they will take that comment on board. That apart we enjoyed our stay as we had an uninterrupted view of the sea, direct access to the Promenade and lots of good bars and restaurants in close vicinity. The airport bus and local buses into Funchal stop directly outside the hotel so the location was also perfect for us. Would certainly recommend this Pestana hotel.

Visited in Feb, blue skies all week enabled us to enjoy the balcony and views of the Atlantic and Funchal from our 4th floor corner apartment which all the amenities anyone could need and like the rest of the hotel was spotless. The pools (3) and the surrounding gardens are immaculate. Hotel staff and owner relations staff are always helpful with a great knowledge of what the island has to offer. Our only minor criticism is the quality of the wine served in the bar a very cheap supermarket wine. There are some great wines available everywhere else, why not in this 4 star hotel. It would be so simple to put right but has been the same for years. As a consequence we don't eat or drink in the hotel despite it being a fabulous place to stay.

I stayed for a week in a classic sea view room and found there were some positives but also some negatives. On the plus side the room was spacious including a bathroom with a bath / shower and bidet. I was on the first floor and the view of the sea was great. Daily housekeeping was thorough and towels and bedding replaced as needed. There’s a fridge and on the first day 2 free bottles of water were provided after which you can get your own from one of the local supermarkets. The main negatives of the room was the bed with it being 2 singles pushed together with a very soft bumpy mattress which made for quite an uncomfortable sleep. The walls are quite thin and so I could also hear my neighbours. My room was located above the restaurant so from 7 am there was a lot of noise. So generally the sleep quality was poor. (I didn’t ask to move rooms as I was up early anyway due to the bed). In terms of the other aspects of the hotel the pool area was great and never really busy so you could always get a lounger. Although the water in the pool was cold in November. From the pool area there is direct access to the Promenade walkway which was handy as there are lots of restaurants within a 5 minute walk. There’s a small gym with a techno gym cable station, running machine, rower, bike, leg extension, leg curl and bench but dumbbells only going to 10kg. Breakfast was good with lots of options although there was no dedicated chef making eggs, but these were available as a buffet. Breakfast also felt quite busy but to be expected in a large hotel. The staff were all nice and helpful and tours were available from the front desk. They also printed my PLF for my return flight. Overall the stay was fine but just affected by the sleep quality.

Short break : 12th - 17th September We have stayed at this hotel many times over the past 9 years and we love it; the hotel is wonderful and we always find the staff provide excellent service and are really friendly and helpful. The pool and gardens are fantastic, the location is great as there is direct access to the promenade from the gardens and also many great restaurants within walking distance. Do not miss dining at Goya or Cris's. The walk into Funchal takes about 30-40 minutes at a moderate pace but does have a few steep parts, (up and down) to negotiate. We usually take a taxi back; although this is an added expense on top of the holiday, we prefer to stay a little way out of the centre of Funchal. This trip, we also walked to Quinta Magnolia and thought the gardens were beautiful. There was a very nice restaurant too, with a lovely outdoor seating area, a lovely place to sit and relax. We had drinks but we will go back to try the food another time.
We have stayed in other Pestana hotels on Madeira but this is definitely our favourite.
My only small criticism is that as there are only 2 lifts, when the hotel is busy, you may have a frustrating wait

From the minute we arrived at the hotel, the staff were very welcoming. We arrived a few hours before check in time but our rooms were already ready and we were able to unpack straight away. We’d requested two adjoining rooms when we booked and the hotel fulfilled this request. We had a lovely sea view from our rooms (most of the rooms do due to the position of the hotel). Rooms are fully air conditioned and equipped with a mini fridge and coffee/tea-making facilities. There’s a daily maid service which we really appreciated! We’d booked the bed and breakfast option (available from 7-11) . There was plenty of choice: traditional English cooked breakfast; range of cereals; selection of fresh fruit; yoghurts, pancakes, croissants, pastries etc. Omelettes are also freshly made to your requirements. The restaurant staff were very pleasant and friendly. The pool area is fantastic. There was the inevitable rush to reserve sunbeds each morning but the pool staff did their best to curb this by putting warning notices on unoccupied beds and removing towels where they’d remained unoccupied for some time. Most days you could still find unoccupied beds at 10am (albeit in the area that is more shady during the morning). The pool staff were wonderful at keeping the pool very clean and assisting people with parasols etc. There are plenty of restaurants in the nearby area and lots to do. Excursions can be organised through the hotel. We used a company called Lido Tours which were also fabulous. Overall we had a lovely time at Pestana Promenade and would certainly return in future years.

Superb position with beautiful views over the sea and well placed for pleasant walk or very convenient bus service to Funchal. I was there a month ago and experienced no problem with noise. Last year when they were removing rock it was a minor issue but even then only if you had a room on the west end. Public areas are all fine now, don’t worry. Just enjoy the magic of Madeira.

I’ve been at ghe Promenade for two weeks and have had no noise if dust issues. Construction has passed that stage now, 2 years ago it was bad when they were cutting into the rock but that’s well over, don’t worry, you’ll have a great time.
Our room was directly on the promenade walk, it didn’t have a kettle. But i’m sure that there are rooms in the hotel that have a kettle. It’s a big hotel with various rooms and possibilities.
