A number of historic buildings make up the Avenue Hotel. Part of these premises even dates back to the 17th century. An interesting fact about the building: during the Golden Age it was used as a warehouse by the 'V.O.C.' (United East India Company). Since that time the building has had many different owners and served different purposes. It has now turned into a hotel, that is up to contemporary standards. The rooms are divided over the different parts of the hotel so they all have a unique style and shape. You can reach all floors by elevator. Our 3 star-hotel has 82 comfortable rooms. Furthermore we offer free WIFI-connection and continental breakfast. All our rooms come with a flatscreen-tv, private bathroom with shower and/or bath, airconditioning and a desk. Discover numerous sights in the vicinity of the Avenue Hotel: Dam Square, the Red Light District, The Nine Streets, the canals and several shopping streets can be reached by foot. The hotel staff will gladly answer your questions about the public transport system, museums and excursions. The best way to explore Amsterdam is by bike, we also offer you the posibility to rent a bike. In the video below you will see why this is te best way to explore Amsterdam

We stayed here for a long weekend in April. The hotel is in a great location - we arrived via Eurostar and it was only a 10 minute walk away. The hotel is very close to the high street and museums and not far from the red light district so ideal location for tourists. WiFi in the hotel was good. The lady on reception was very nice and helpful during check in/out.
We were self catering so can’t comment on breakfast etc.
Our room was okay. We were travelling as two couples so the other room of our party was much larger with large bathroom and bath and a view. The beds were fairly comfortable but pillows very square and poor quality. The Tv has poor signal but we didn’t watch much. Plenty of plug sockets around. I’m our room the bathroom was tiny and the shower flooded the floor after use, it was a small space with half a glass door and a curtain at the front. So if I went in after my partner or vice versa everything was soaked and the shower curtain stuck to you. We had to leave our bathroom door open constantly to air dry. The toilet seat was broken and slid off when you sat on it. There was just not enough room to move around in there.
The hotel has a luggage room if your train/flight is later then check out which is used by most guests.
Overall the hotel was perfect location for a city break, however with the price of the hotel and issue of our rooms we were slightly disappointed and would probably book elsewhere next time.

Hotel is pretty basic. First room we had appeared to have been renovated. Window was tiny and so high up we couldn't see out of it. Room was roasting hot despite the radiator not being on. We asked to move rooms and were 'upgraded' to a room that had huge windows but a smaller bed. I would hardly class having windows as an upgrade, but the gesture was nice. Bed was tiny as we were 2 friends sharing, not a couple.
Coffee machine was out of order whilst we were there. Annoying.
Our other friends has a room on the ground floor (literally opposite reception) and the got woken up consistently by noise. It's a weird place to have a bedroom.
Location is brilliant. Close to station.
Would I stay again? Highly unlikely!

Avenue hotel Amsterdam

We arrived at this hotel on a Saturday afternoon the reception was welcoming and our room was available an hour ahead of check in. There was 3 of us but we booked a room that sleeps 4. Beds and bedding was clean and comfortable, the room had showers gel but it was empty so I had to go purchase some.

Hotel staff spoke good English and was helpful. The breakfast was good there was something for everyone. However they only do scrambled or boiled eggs. I asked about fried eggs or an omelette but they couldn’t do this.

The location of the hotel is perfect! Less than 10 min to the central Amsterdam station. The street was close to the tourists area but also you couldn’t tell it was just around the corner so we could escape the Amsterdam vibes and relax with a drink.

If I were to stay in Amsterdam again I would be happy to stay here again.

The Avenue Hotel might have been a 3 star hotel many moons ago, however, in my opinion it no longer deserves the rating. The hotel is very basic without any frills and the furnishing is outdated. It offers nothing apart from accomodation and breakfast but it charges like a 3 star hotel. We paid 510 euros for 3 night.
The only positive points are the central location and reception staff, who were friendy and helpful.
Our room was poky and dark, there wasn't a ceiling light and the bulb from my bedsite lamp was missing. The window was facing a tiny court and corridor windows were oppsite, if we had left the curtains open people could have looked directly into our room. The aircon made strange, very loud noises on a regular basis and woke us up several times at night; there was mould on the ceiling in the bath room. I was pleased about the little coffee maker in our room but the pods were never refilled. After we had a coffee on the first day, we were not able to use it anymore. Or were we supposed to buy our own? The cleaning staff also missed to replace toilet paper but since they left the storage cupboards in the corridor open, we were able to help ourselves. An unpleasant smell was present almost everywhere in the hotel and the air freshener used in the corridors didn't really fix the problem. The hotel really needs a proper deep cleaning and refurbishing.
I can't recommend this hotel, try to avoid. There are much nicer hotels for the same price in that area.

Me and my husband stayed at the avenue for a few nights recently whilst on a trip to Amsterdam. The staff were really lovely and welcoming. The first room we were put in was really small but the room we were moved to after requesting a new room was perfect, really clean with a balcony outside the window doors ( not one you could sit on, just look out of) that overlooked the side street. the walls did not seem to be very soundproof but it seems to be like that in most hotels and we never had an issue with noise or unsociable behaviour whilst staying in the hotel. The location of this hotel is also brilliant, everything is within a 10-20 minute walk. I would like to thank the hotel for a great stay. We will be back.

We came to the hotel at 11:30am and were told it was not ready as check in was at 3pm so we left our luggage in the hold room. We came back at 3:50pm and were told our room was still not ready! We were stranded in amsterdam and had nowhere to shower or change and we ended up being late to our lunch booking. We later came back at 7:30pm and when we went to our room there were poo stains in the toilet, semen stains on the walls, stains on the bed and blood stains on the pillow. The man at reception came to the room and took pictures as he was also appalled at the condition. He said he could offer a refund but we would need to find another hotel. This was now 8pm and we could not find a hotel at the same price at this time. The reception man agreed to clean the room properly for us and that we could speak to a supervisor the next morning about compensation for the inconvenience. The supervisor the next day was awful. She wouldnt help at all and even accused of us of taking the refund in cash!!! We never took the refund as we agreed with the receptionist the night before that we would stay if the room was cleaned and claim compensation the next day. The supervisor refused to help, refused to give us details on how to make a complaint, refused to give us an email address and refused the give details of the head office or the third party company. The customer service was the worst ive experienced in my life. Ive also checked my card and have noticed that my cards been charged PLUS we paid in cash as they emailed us to say their chip and pin machine isnt working. They have also charged my other card for a holding deposit so we have paid 3 times instead of once. Im in total shock and cannot believe what a scam this hotel is!!!!!!!

We were due to stay here next weekend but because of Coronavirus we can not physically get to Amsterdam. We explained the situation and asked to move our date in accordance with the airline’s option and we were told no. In times of a global crisis it is morally wrong to take hundreds of pounds off someone when they have no control over it. Amsterdam is also on lockdown so they should be shut anyway but he has said he is still open which is putting his staff at risk. If he has any guests it is probably because they didn’t want to lose their money and also he will be renting out the rooms (like ours) again which he has already got paid for. His attitude was disgusting, I understand he has a business and so I thought it would be fair to rebook for another weekend so he can still keep the money but what he has done is horrible. He even had the cheek to say he would discount 35% if I booked with him again!! His hotel should be boycotted for his actions during this pandemic. Disgusting behaviour and the worst customer service I have experienced.

This little hotel is lovely. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
Our room (114) was spacious, tea and coffee facilities available.
Really clean and comfortable
With this room there is a noise of a fan or air-con unit and various times through the night, I noticed it at first and then got used to it. So it didnt bother us. So if you're a really light sleeper maybe worth a swap?
Good selection of light breakfasts in fruit, cereal and cooked

Will definitely be back as this hotel is perfect for a base, this was our first time to Amsterdam so we were out most days but this hotel is perfect as it feels central to everything.

Visited in October 2022 and some tram and roadworks were going on outside, looks like replacing tram tracks. This caused no issue to us.

Fantastic place

When we arrived the lady behind the desk argued that I hadn’t paid for our reservation even after I showed her proof of full payment. Staff were rude and condescending. Room looked nothing like the photos, it was small, dirty and outdated with an old stale smell that wouldn’t go away no matter how hard you tried. The keycards took forever to work, you’d be standing outside your room for at least 5 minutes trying to get inside. Can’t fault the location but not worth the price we paid for it.

The location was fantastic. From Schiphol Airport you can take Inter City Direct (ICD) train to Amsterdam Central station 5.40€, vs 55€ by taxi. There is MAJOR road construction and rebuilding of the team rails , and most taxis do not want to drive to the hotel, they do lots of driving around to get you close to the hotel hence the high taxi fees, a few drivers actually refused to take me to the hotel, the reason I had to walk from the station to the hotel. After take a quick 10mins walk from Central Station to the hotel. Just make sure you on the right side of the train station.

Opt out on breakfast, they charge 12-15€ per person for continental breakfast, but you get a decent breakfast.L for any of the cafes on that streets for much cheaper 5-10€ euros if you want a big breakfast.

Lots of great shopping, and you can walk to also all the attractions like Anne Frank Museum, lots of sites you pass on your way to the Red Light District. I strongly suggest buying the hop on hop off bus tour in advance. I though I could get a ticket on the spot, but they were sold out 4 days in advance.

Even though Avenue Hotel is not recommended as a result of a stay last November and given bad rooms and poor service, these are the directions. Take the airport train east to Centraal Station. Emerge from the front to cross the tram tracks, etc. and proceed south on Damrak towards Dam Square. Stay on the right side of the street. Turn right at the pedestrian walkway next to the store "Jumbo" which is +/- three blocks south of Cenraal Station. Proceed two blocks west to Nieuwezijids (which was under construction at the time) and Avenue Hotel is on the right at the corner. No need for a taxi or other than walking as Amsterdam is very pedestrian friendly, flat, etc. Rho Hotel is only $50 or less per night, far better, worth the price and on the east/ left side of Dam Square. Use Google maps for extra help.
