Hotel Château Gütsch captivates visitors with its picturesque cliff-top location, offering stunning views that are frequently praised. However, some guests have voiced concerns about the value for money, pointing to overpriced services and unexpected room features.
While the hotel's cleanliness and charming blend of classic and modern aesthetics generally impress, opinions on service and room amenities vary. The quality of beds and hospitality often receive commendations, but the absence of AC in certain rooms and inconsistent funicular service have been critiqued.

I stayed 3 weeks ago on a business trip. By far the best hotel in Lucerne. 5 star luxury with the best views of Lucerne. I was super lucky to wake up to the most incredible sunrise – pics below.
The bedroom is finished beautifully, traditional feel but super modern and so cosy and warm. I make a point of that because most hotels in LZ are really old and are really cold of an evening. Not This place. Its perfect. My room had a huge window and a balcony. Bathroom was super modern and clean with great amenities. 2 negatives, there isnt any tea/coffee facilities in the room and irons are not available due to safety. BUT the minibar in the room is complimentary :). Breakfast offering is very big with lots of options. The views from the breakfast room are also out of this world.

Dear Ryofly, Thank you very much for taking the time to write us this lovely feedback. Comments like yours encourage us to keep going and get better every day. We are glad that you loved the room. As to the tea/coffee facilities, in the suites we do have them included and for the other rooms, they are on request for a small extra fee. It is true that for safety reasons, we do not lend irons, but in case of emergency, our guests are able to book our laundry and ironing service. We completely agree that the views from our Château are utterly beautiful. It would be a pleasure to welcome you back any time in the future. Kind regards from Lucerne, Château Gütsch Team

The hotel has the old world charm and atmosphere we enjoy. However, the due to hot weather the stay was unpleasant. As an old world hotel there is no air conditioning. The location and surrounding mountains somehow collect and amplify the sounds of the city at the hotel. So with the balcony doors open you get all of the noise of the city. Unfortunately the couple on the balcony below decided to smoke cigars well after midnight with the breeze bringing smoke in our room.
The bathrooms are nice enough
We woke with terrible backaches. Which is not normal for us. I blame it on the mattress.
This is clearly a one time stay.
We also ate in the hotel restaurant. It was just good. Desert was not good. The price was steep for the meal.
Overall I feel value for money is lacking here.

We stayed 4 nights for our honeymoon and my wife's 30th birthday. It was absolutely amazing..the views, the staff, the facilities are to die for. My wife was lost for words when we pulled up as it was a surprise. Little things like the mini bar being complimentary, free in house movies and the transport pass for the funicular and local transport was convenient. They also done up the room on the day of my wife's birthday turning the quilt into a love heart with rose petals. Thanks Chateau Gutsch we will be back

My husband and I had originally booked this hotel in 2020, but due to COVID we were unable to go to Switzerland. The Hotel would not refund us our money for 3 nights so we rebooked to 2021 since we didn't want to be out over $1,300 USD. Our room was nice but very small. It needed major updates. I was very upset when I noticed my sheets were not being changed. It was the 3rd night and they still were not changed. Also, our dirty dishes were never taken out of the room. I complained to the front desk since the sheets were dirty and they did provide us with a bottle of wine and did change the sheets. It was quite a walk to downtown Lucerne so for someone who has limited mobility it is rather far. Also, they charged us for parking $50/night when they have their own parking lot at the Chateau which I thought was unfair. The breakfast was satisfactory nothing great and it is buffet style. I would not stay here again.

What a disappointment this place was. We checked in and unfortunately we had to leave Lucerne because of a family emergency back home. We never stayed the night. I explained the situation to the hotel night manager that we were cutting our stay a few nights short. I told him I understood we would be charged for the night but I would appreciate not being charged for the rest of our reservation. He assured me he would speak to the hotel on our behalf. Now a few days later I received an email that they would not make any adjustments to our bill charging us the full stay. We had booked it directly through the hotel website instead of a travel agent or Expedia. With these types of policies my recommendation is to stay somewhere else. My loss is your gain....
Regarding the hotel rooms and meeting areas. It's an old hotel so definitely temper your expectations regarding any amenities. Also the showers are clearly visible to the bedroom so if you're modest or in mixed company your should be prepared to exit the room for a bit. Getting on the Wi-Fi was incredibly difficult. Between the three travelers we each probably 30 to 40 minutes trying to get online. All of us are very technical people.
Understand also that the hotel is nowhere near the city center. You have to take the hotel funicular down to the street and then walk 15-20 minutes to the water. There's also a bus stop nearby but that is also a 10-minute ride. Plan accordingly....
If you feel you have to go see the hotel just make it a stop for a drink.

This is the best Hotel i have stayed in for quite some time. The team here and the majestic building they do justice to really are something above the ordinary.
From the Chateau's own art gallery, the passages and tunnels beneath and the grand ballrooms and restaurants the property exudes an air of something different. Not polished and sterile instead it takes pride in its age and timeless charm.
Walking through Luzern and seeing the property with it's glowing letters looming on the horizon gives a sense of exclusivity that is only built on by the private funicular in which you descend and ascend to and from your Chateau.
The queen suite was fantastically well appointed, with a stunning clawfoot tub and a mutli head shower that was very hard to leave.
The classic four poster bed and chaise in the room build and build on the feeling you are experiencing a moment rather than staying in a hotel room.
I could not compliment this place more, and still chuckle when i think of the Mr Bean cupboard.

Just a great spot to have a break and indulge in an old beautiful chateau with an eagle eye view on Lucerne below.
It’s clearly a major landmark in Lucerne because everyone knows it and can also see it from almost any place in the city.
Not only does it have wow it also has its own Funicular so you don’t have even think about walking up and down the steep drop to the street levels. This is neat!
The staff were very helpful and friendly and our room again overlooked Lucerne with what can only be described as magical views. Just sitting on the balcony was a pleasure.
I highly recommend you visit this special place.
I comment on the restaurant in a separate review.
Finally the room was spacious and my only nitpick was the mattress was too hard for us ( but I know after many stays in Swiss hotels this is normal)

We had set ourselves up for a vacation, but what we encountered was horror.
We brought our suitcases to the room ourselves, because according to the reception there is no porter in the evening.
There were many insects in our room as well as a spider the size of a hand.
When we asked, we were told that no one could help us because the cleaning staff was not there and it was our own fault because we had opened the windows.
The windows were already open when we arrived!
Another room we can also not get, because the house was full, although free rooms were available on booking sites.
In summary, it was horror. When we checked out, the girls at the front desk made no effort to accommodate us.

Save your money and book somewhere else, yes you can get a good view but you can get that in lots of places in Lucerne. Firstly it is not very central so if you want to go out for a nice evening meal you will need transport otherwise you would be a good 30 to 45 minute walk from the tourist area of the town maybe longer through not a great area.
The restaurant and bar areas are very nice and in good condition but the rooms and communal guest areas are old, tired, damaged and smell. We had a duplex room despite it stating it had air conditioning it was like throwing a thimble of water on the great fire of London. Sleep was almost impossible not just because of the heat but because of the beds. The beds were so soft that my feet were higher than my head and my sons fold out bed was like a torture device. The room was very shabby lots of things broken, bits of furniture missing, untidy and not well looked after.
The service on our 1st night at the lumiere restaurant was fabulous and the bbq on a Sunday I would recommend great food and great view. Breakfast on the other hand was underwhelming and service was woeful. Despite taking our order three times for drinks on our 1st morning we never recieved them.
The reception desk on checkout just left a very sour note given the price we paid and was indicative of the service we had experienced... no how was your stay, no thank you... just this is what you owe and do you want a copy of your receipt.
Save you money and book elsewhere!

We booked this gorgeous place to celebrate our anniversary. Well gorgeous just from outside. I would definitely not recommending coming back.
1. It started with booking a reservation. The staff was not able to book it correctly which took us several iterations until we got it booked.
2. I told the hotel we want to celebrate our anniversary and if they can prepare a small surprise on the room, which they confirmed by email. Until this point in time we did not receive anything nor someone remembered it
3. I informed the being pregnant and cant eat some of the dishes. In the restaurant nobody new it and as the staff did not speak german (or did not understand german) he did not know what I mean by well cooked or not alcohol. He several time asked me if I want some drinks (alcoholic)
4. The service was poor they asked once for drinks and never came back. My partner had to find someone who brought him the wine card. The good thing is the minibar in the room is for free, so you can go upstairs and get some water if you need
5. Hotel needs refurbishment several items are broken i.e. glass of the lamp was damaged.
6. Covid rules: Too many people at the same time at breakfast, no registrations before which I know from many hotels. Menu cards were just given from one table to the other no wiping or cleaning of the cards.
we gave feedback to the hotel but up to this point not even a reaction. I can really not recommend anyone to visit it. Definitely better stays for less money in and around lucerne

Hi,
They have provided us the ticket for funicular so we didnot have to pay anything but please ask in advance as I do not remember if it is part of their policy or if it was a special offer to my booking. Parking is in the back yard ( not very big but we managed to park), we had breakfast at usual time around 8 ( I think they start earlier though). Hope to enjoy the experience as I did.
We requested a lake view and got it. It had a balcony too which was wonderful.
It's a funicular ride down, then a bus to the train station and then finally the train ride to the Zurich Airport, which takes about an hour or a little more. Depending on when you leave it can take up to 2 hours to get to the airport, using public transportation. We loved our stay at this hotel. Highly recommend.
Dear Jeffery H
Our Hotel was built in 1901 and therefoe we do not have rooms with air conditioning.

Resident Manager
We took a cab from the train station. Easy! We didn't have to lug our bags up the steps from the funi because they taxi dropped us off right at the doors of reception.
