Detailed Reviews
The Royal is a comfortable 3 star hotel with a superb view over Lake Luzern. It is up a bit of a hill, so the walk back needs to be considered, but you can walk to the main square in 20 minutes along the lake. Parking is under the Palace hotel at the foot of the hill....for quite a fee! The rooms are average size, well equipped bathrooms, no A/C but many rooms have balconies with 2 chairs overlooking THAT view. A very reasonably priced hotel with all the necessary comforts, olde world charm especially in the public rooms, good bar, and a great choice in Luzern.

Hotels in Lucerne are very expensive, especially the ones that are a bit outside of town with lake views. The Royal Lucerne has an excellent location, up a short walk above the lake. (It's about a 20-minute walk or a quick bus ride into the center of Lucerne). The other hotels nearby are all deluxe and much more expensive. The Royal Lucerne isn't fancy but is very pleasant with a lot of historical character. Our room was not large but adequate, and we really enjoyed the small balcony overlooking the lake. It had an excellent modernized bathroom. If I return to Lucerne I would definitely stay here again.

This is a boutique hotel surrounded by much more fkashy and expensive options. I enjoyed my stay here. I had a room with an absolutely gorgeous lake and alps view. The hotel is located 15 walk from Luzern hauptbahnhof, the last part is uphill and up a flight of steps. I recommend a taxi or uber if you are carrying luggage.
The staff are very friendly, the rooms very clean. The shower in my room was a little snug but I was able to watch TV while showering which was a novelty.
The breakfast is a continental breakfast with bread, croissants, cheeses, meats, cereals and fruit. It's was very good and filled me up for the day.
There is a hotel bar with a resident pianist. I was there during Euro 24 and they showed every game on a giant screen.

Great hotel away from busy streets. Quality breakfasts and first class personal service and advice from the entire proprietor's family. Would definitely go again. Lucerne itself and surrounding area well worth a visit, a trip on paddle steamer a special treat.

Charming hotel.
Correct lunch.
Too bad there may be entertainment in this hotel, but good location.
Functional and well-appointed room.
A stone's throw from tourist areas, a plus for visiting the region
A potential to explore it is missing to make it a top place

This hotel is in a quiet neighborhood of Lucerne, but it is only a 10-15 minute walk from the train station and old town. Buses go to within a short distance of it. The main disadvantage is that the hotel is a block or two uphill from the main road. That wasn't a problem except when we arrived with our suitcases.
The hotel itself is lovely. The rooms are spacious and modern and have balconies. A lifesaver for us was that the hotel is air-conditioned. We did not expect to need it at the end of May, but we hit an unusual heat wave. The terrace of the hotel provides a lovely view of the mountains and Lake Lucerne, as do the rooms at the front of the hotel. The buffet breakfast was one of the
best we had. This hotel is probably average priced for Lucerne as hotels in Lucerne are expensive.

I visited Lucerne and stayed at Hotel Royal. The view was good and the lobby was elegant.
But I was upset by their service. Our luggage got messy and we wanted some help from the manager. We asked for paper towel and changed the bedding sheet.
Our reply was "This is your problem. This is not my problem" and got teased by someone.
I don't speak their language and I felt upset.
On another night, we caught 5 spiders in the bathroom.

I stayed at this hotel with 2 other family members for two nights as part of a group tour. This hotel caters mainly to large tour groups.
This hotel is a family owned hotel, likened much to a New England style bed & breakfast with European charm. The lobby and hotel is filled with antiques and is very elegantly decorated. There is a terrace at the building front which overlooks Lake Lucerne and Mt. Pilatus. Rooms on the front also have balconies with the same view. Rooms have real keys (not magnetic key cards) which have to be put on a board near the front desk when leaving the hotel. If you plan to be out past 11pm, you need to get a front door key from the desk as they lock it for the evening. Internet access is available (one computer) for 8.00 Swiss Francs (cash) for 30 minutes.
Our room however was a different story. We did have a front facing balcony with a lovely view and the view is probably the best part of the room. The room was spacious, but spartan. The beds were very flat and the pillows were pretty much non-existent with no real support. When inquiring for an extra pillow we were informed that there weren't any extras. You also can't control the temperature in the room (at least in our room we couldn't). Hot water is not available all day (again, we learned the hard way). There was a cold spell while we were visiting and wanted to take a shower before the hot water was turned on (at around 8pm) but sadly couldn't. The bathroom was also very tiny. I am not a very tall nor big person, yet I felt cramped in the shower. There wasn't very many choices for breakfast - it mainly consisted of bread, cheese, cereal, and yogurt.
It is about a 10 minute walk to the downtown Lucerne area. You need to walk up either a large hill or about 50 stairs to get up to the building.
I didn't really care for this hotel and if I had a choice in the future (didn't have a choice this time as it was assigned by the tour company) I wouldn't stay here again.

I loved everything about Lucerne, their history, culture ,chocolates, mount pilatus , swiss watches, swiss army knife and people.. Hotel has the awesome uphill panoramic view of lake luzern and mountain alps. The thing that I hate about this hotel, everything here is vintage... No A/C, Old distress door and door knob and metal keys, Old 14 inch T.V. sets from the 80's -"No cable TV off course ! ", old furnitures and lighting fixtures. moreso, its difficult to take a shower coz of poor lighting at the toilet and bath ., Shower handspray looks like a bidet hand spray which are located at the lower side of theTub. In short ,amenities are not that great!

The hotel is on a hill that allows for a wonderful view of the magnificent lake below.full marks for location.
But I wish this great advantage was fully used to make it a great place to come and stay in Lucerne.
The breakfast service is also very good with a nice spread of dishes.
What pulls it down is the frugal amenities in the room and the bathroom. It doesn't take too much effort or cost to provide higher quality toiletries, a bar and some water in the room. I hope my input is listened to for the benefit of future travellers.
It was unusually warm weather wise this time and with no air-conditioning the room gets uncomfortable. Even a small table fan could have helped a lot.
But I cannot deny that it has a great location and high potential to be a sought after hotel site.
