Detailed Reviews
First I’ll go with the good points : the staff was nice and the location was amazing ! It’s right in the middle of everything, the train station is at 5 minutes (walking distance). They lend an umbrella, which is nice. Plus, the coffee and the tee in the room were free.
And there we go with the bad points, and there are many. First, the room was not clean at all : there were dust and hairs on the floor, hairs in the bed, dust hanging from the ceiling, and the bathroom wasn’t clean either (eg. spots on the bathtub).
We didn’t wish for a nice view, but we weren’t expecting that the neighbours could see inside our room either…. The windows were so close from another that we had the curtain closed the whole time. The hotel staff did put some translucide paper on the glass, but it wasn’t big enough to cover the entire window.
This being said, you can imagine how dark the room was. There was no sunlight anyway but with the curtains closed the room was a cave. Not speaking about the fact that there were another tiny window (also with a wonderful view on the neighbours’ room) without curtain that was no use the day but brought light in the room the entire night. We had to ask for towels to cover it but it didn’t help much since the towel was white.
Plus it was very very noisy. The room was just above a restaurant and I don’t know I think they were making bread or something, they must have been throwing heavy dough the whole time…?
And last but not least (and I have to admit it was written on the website but I didn’t notice so it’s a but my fault too…) there is a 4CHF/night/person tax. We ended up paying way more than expected. I don’t understand why this isn’t in the normal room price, it would be much easier and would avoid some bad surprises. But as I said, it was written but I didn’t read correctly.
Long story short : we got what we paid for I guess…? The price wasn’t that expensive but still not cheap and I think it wouldn’t be an effort to at least offer clean rooms. The experience wasn’t awful but we wouldn’t go there again.

Overall, a decent hotel but a bit quirky. The room was huge and felt more like an apartment. The décor is a bit unusual but not bad. Blue walls, paintings, multi-colored lamps, etc. The room wasn’t air conditioned but two electric fans were provided and made all the difference in the world. I wish more European hotels would simply include a fan in the room. A/C is not always needed in this part of the world but occasionally a fan is necessary.
The room had windows on both sides, so cross ventilation was possible. The large church bell tower across the square did not sound the bells throughout the night and the square was actually rather quiet. It was easy to get a good night’s sleep.
The room is clearly older and maybe in need of some renovation, but everything was adequate. The bathroom was dated but everything worked. There is no front desk at this location and you must go to another nearby hotel to check in and check out. This was not a huge problem and the distance between the two isn’t much (maybe 300 meters?). The staff at the front desk was helpful and we had no trouble with check-in once we located the other hotel (it wasn’t completely clear where it was but we found it quickly).
The best part of the room was the INCREDIBLE bar downstairs adjacent to the entrance. What a fantastic place.
The location of the Magic Lantern is its greatest feature. One block off the river, near restaurants, banks and bars. The train station is a short walk away.
Not a bad value for your money.

This hotel is strategically located just a few meters from the banks of the Reuss River and the most important points of Lucerne. It is situated in a small square next to the Kornmarkt, one of the landmarks of the city.
The particularity is that it does not have a front desk or staff available on-site for inquiries. Everything related to check-in, check-out, and any other matter is handled at the Hotel Krone, two blocks away.
We stayed in the Symphony Room for two nights. The room is very nice, equipped with modern furniture, a comfortable bed, two chairs and a small table, a small and useful fridge, and a coffee maker available with capsules (very good indeed!).
As an additional detail, they provide a free transportation card for the duration of the stay. If you have a vehicle, they offer parking (not on the same property) with a valet parking system for CHF 27 per day. Since it was very expensive, we chose not to use it.
We would definitely stay at Hotel Magic Luzern again.

My wife and I spent a night in this hotel on Saturday 18th of July.
I have to admit, I was really disappointed.
I live in Geneva, and for the price paid in your hotel (CHF 255), I could have found a much better value for money hotel room in Geneva, even though is quite pricey city. I wanted to book a room, hesitated for a while but eventually decided to book a suite, thinking that the room would look nice and all.
Everything was falling apart. The horse for the Jacuzzi was broken, paint was falling from the ceiling, there was hairs on the floor and dust under the bed, there was toilet paper around the fire alarm, and the view supposed to be a city view was actually a view over some roofs - with direct view in our room.
I have attached a few pictures so it would hard for you to say that I am exaggerating.
So I checked in, got the key, walked around the room and went back to the Krone Hotel. I spoke to the person at the desk, who was no less that the front office manager. I even have his name on paper: Daniel Friedrich. I told him and explained what was wrong with the room, but with all the worse arrogance, the king you would think only you can find in Paris, did not care at all about my saying and dismiss all my complains. Hi answer was the booking is non-refundable and we do not have any other room available. In other words: bug-off.
Lucerne and the surrounding are really beautiful, so and the end of the day this is all I will remember.
But still: at this time the situation is complicated, and we ask Swiss citizens to spend their summer holiday time in Switzerland, which is the best thing to do for the economy and hospitality business. How can this type of behaviours can attack Swiss customer? I am sure that the staff at the hotel do not care much about Asian tourists, who they will never see again, but may be because they have seen too many of them, they think they can do the same with Swiss nationals?
That was a bad experience, and even though I will return to Lucerne sometime soon, I will make sure that I will not book in any of your hotels : Krone, Stella nor Magic.

The "hotel" is in reality a bunch of rooms in a dependance of the Hotel Krone, where you need to go to do the check in and have breakfast.
The buildings where the rooms are is accessed by a very small door in an alley where the nearby restaurant stocks the chairs.
The lobby is non existent ( it's the landing of the elevator) and you are likely to have to drag your luggage up the stairs as half of the rooms are not serviced by the elevator.
The check in experience was for us oddly unpleasant due to a very unhelpful person at the front desk ( verbatim exchange: where can I park? I do not care where you leave your car)
Location is right in the middle of the old town, which is a mixed blessing as from 6 am on lorries start to unload , keep the engine on and are noisy.
No air conditioning ( only fans that do not help much, particularly in the upper floors)
We took the themed rooms , which is not advisable as the "theme" is a distraction from small/ odd layout rooms.
Bathroom are clean ( no amenities of notice), breakfast is ok ( but you have ample options nearby)

Their pics are deceiving. We stayed in the Symphony room. It badly needs a coat of paint, some new furniture and a deep cleaning. The bed and bedding was clean and okay, other than the very flat pillows. The main lobby for the hotel is a walk down a couple of alleys and across a square. That's where you'll have to go for breakfast, check-in, etc. We left after 2 nights and would have left sooner if we could have arranged another hotel. On the bright side, their breakfast was the best we had throughout our entire 3 week stay in Switzerland. There is no air conditioning. This room faces an alley where smoke wafts into the room when the restaurant workers below are taking their break.

The location of the hotel was very good for activities and restaurants.
We used a travel agent and somehow got booked in the "pirate room".
The room itself overlooked a "courtyard", in the evening it got very loud with the many patrons eating in the outdoor restaurant and each evening there were "performers" doing acrobatic stunts and playing loud music.
The bed itself was shaped like a ship and the mattress was inside it so we bumped our elbows and knees all night.
There is no A/C and there are no screens on the windows to keep bugs and birds out. There was not any type of cross breeze to help cool down the room, but it did contain 2 small fans.
We would not stay here again.

I cannot rate this hotel,
room was tired and grubby old, not quaint old and felt dusty and unclean
while the sheets and pillow cases were clean, we both got bug bites.
the curtains were faded and dirty.
just overall not a great stay,
location was great.

We stayed here 2 nights - we were aware that the check in and check out are at hotel Krone which is really no big deal, its a few meters away. The receptionist was really kind! The room we got was big !! (Swiss cottage room) and the tea and coffee were complementary. The location is GREAT! i really liked the hotel, it was fairly priced and conveniently located. I would return

The Tripadvisor Amenities section says breakfast is included. That is no longer true and should be updated with the correct information.
You simply walk. The walk is just five minutes. Train Station to the Kappelbrucke bridge, cross that and then go up the steps into the courtyard. Just a tiny bit down the courtyard is the hotel where you checkin. That information is on the website. The checkin hotel will move your bags for you, once you have checked in.
