Location of the Tourist Hotel is great, easy walking distance to all the old town sites and just steps from the tower entrance to the city wall. Clean rooms, breakfast included, access to laundry on premises. Parking can be tricky.

The hotel is in a good location, 10 min from city centre.
The front desk staff was amazing upon our check in and gave us thorough recommendations on what to visit.
At the time of our visit (09/21), the river in front of the hotel “produced” millions of little flies/insects that surround the hotel. While this obviously isn’t the Hotel’s fault, as the rooms have no AC, the heat inside was unbearable. Usually you would open the windows to let fresh air in, but in this case, if you do, insects will come in (even with the insect net at the window).
Decent breakfast with lots of fruit options.

We stayed in Hotel Karl for 3 nights in late May.

The accommodation was great. Big, comfy bed. Decent fan to cool the room. Lovely shower, loads of storage, and other general amenities in the room (nespresso, safe, SMART TV).

The hotel was located just a five minute walk from the centre of the old town, but was separated enough from the hustle and bustle so that it was very quiet.

The reception staff throughout were friendly and helpful; offering us advice on excursions and restaurants.

My only detraction would be the breakfast. The selection was okay, but what was frustrating was how busy the breakfast area was - you constantly felt jostled as you were selecting your items or standing in a queue for the coffee machine. A simple way to resolve this would be to insist on timed slots at breakfast (we have stayed in a couple of hotels on our trip which do this and it significantly improves the breakfast experience).

All in all, though, a very good hotel in an ideal location.

We chose this hotel due to its location near the Old Town of Lucerne. To be honest we had some “fears” (due to 2-star rating), but rather we were positively surprised. It is a female and family friendly hotel. We got a very warm welcome. The internet was horrible and we were extremely lucky with our parking just outside both nights we stayed. It could have been a nightmare. Breakfast was standard but on par with other hotels with higher star rating. The room was also on par with hotels with a higher rating.

The Tourist is very conveniently located, close to the old district, very easily walking around the area, the iconic Chapel Bridge and many others.
Riverside view with balcony is fantastic, though the weather rather chilly on a late December. Nonetheless, dress well and sit watch the people passing by, and the gulls, ducks and even a couple of grey cranes spotted.
Check in time limited, as is checking out earliest 7am till 11am.
If you do drive, let Ms Margrit S. ahead she'll pre-book a parking behind hotel at CHF 16 per day. Be advised road behind is very narrow, hairpin turn required.

Loved the rooms. High ceilings,
modern and clean. Breakfast and location was great. Shout out to the hotel receptionist who saved our trip! We accidentally left our passports in the safe and realized this while on a train to Interlaken. We phoned the hotel and he was able to mail our passports to our next hotel and then phoned the hotel to inform them of the situation so that when we checked in they knew that our passports wouldn’t arrive for 1-2 days. Amazing service - can’t say enough positive words to show our gratitude!

A slightly dated hotel, with the central body reminiscent of an ancient palace. Some rooms are located in the building next door, connected to the reception building. Good location for visiting the city. From the windows of some rooms you can see the river that crosses the city. Simple and essential furnishings. Sufficiently varied breakfast with sweet and savory ingredients. The wifi in the room works intermittently.

Great location off the edge of the downtown. Basic rooms but very clean and fairly spacious. Nice view of the river with a balcony as well.

The breakfast was good, albeit busy and crowded at times.

The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. Adrian recommended some nice restaurants and sites to see. They gave us a late checkout to 12:30. It was very hot in Lucerne when we were there so they gave us 2 fans for our room (along with the ceiling fan already there).

It is not the cheapest place to stay, but it was peak summertime and worth the bit extra.

Definitely budget hotel. You feel like you are back to staying in a college dorm. Service though was friendly, but the halls smelled liked Raid. Maybe for a reason. Clean showers. But again- such basic rooms. We went during a heat wave and it really was unbearable. It may be pleasant in the winter. Breakfast was a little better than standard. Location was good.

This hotel was a perfect location on the river. It was super clean, quiet and an easy walk to old town shops, museums and good food. Especially as a woman alone!!
I think it was only listed as a 2-3 star which usually doesn’t mean “great” in the US, but I’d happily stay here again. Oh, and it includes a decent breakfast as well.

Yes you need coins to use both the washer and dryer. The dryer is super fast and hot so you don’t need to use it for long. So hot it shrunk my husbands vests lol.

There are no tea and coffee facilities in the rooms. Just downstairs in the canteen area they put on tea and coffee from a machine
