Background: Family of 4. Kids aged 9 and 7. We stayed only one night late July as we started our trip in the Swiss Alps. We typically utilize the American Express Fine Travel Program.

Location: Wow. Unbelievable. Our first time in Switzerland and Luzerne is an amazing place to visit. The hotel is perfectly located off the lake and walking distance to all the places.

Checkin: The staff was so friendly and warm. They knew we had kids and made separate key cards for them. Overall process was so professional and friendly.

Accommodations: We upgraded to two separate rooms which was perfect for us four. One of the rooms has a balcony which has the most amazing view of the lake and the mountains nearby. I loved having coffee enjoying the crispy morning air. Everything was luxurious.

Dining: We ordered room service for dinner and it was perfect. The staff member was so genuinely pleasant and took time to explain the dishes to the us. The kids loved it. Breakfast buffet outside was such a wonderful experience.

Staff: What can I say but they are awesome.

When we go back we will certainly stay at this MO without hesitation. The only downside is as expected, the cost. But, you get what you pay for and this stay was well worth it.

I had booked a table in the bar/restaurant with the information that we cannot eat dishes with black pepper due to a food allergy. On arrival the charming receptionist immediately informed us that their Chef does not use any black pepper and the we could try anything from the menu. The choices with many plates for sharing were truly amazing and reminded us of good times in Asia. The atmosphere in this totally renovated hotel is amazing with very friendly service and wonderful architecture and interior design features. We also went to see a room and were impressed with the size and high quality of the installations. Hoping to stay here one day, maybe next Carnival (2024).

We have just returned from 3 days in Lucerne where we stayed at the Mandarin Oriental. The hotel exceeded our expectations, from the consistently helpful and friendly staff to the high standard of service and impeccable rooms, I can honestly say this is one of the best (if not THE best) hotel we have stayed in. Cleanliness is a particularly important factor for us, when it comes to hotels, and I am pleased to say that the MO was very clean and housekeeping maintained that standard daily.
We felt that the hotel was truly centred around the guest; ensuring that you experience the best possible stay.
The only feedback I would give with regards to improvement is a suggestion to review all menus (including breakfast) to consider more vegetarian and vegan options.

Amateurs. My anniversary surprise was indeed a real one. The hotel was amazing , our room spectacular but as far as the staff is concerned , amateurs. The guy at the check-in you could see that he was untrained, not even a smile. First thing he asked was our credit cards and passports and we felt very awkward ,felt like he was working at a bank not a hotel, his english were barely understandable ,very rude, and the worst that it took him almost an hour to take us to the room. Asked for the Golf centre and he suggested to google !!! 5 Star Deluxe Service not applicable to this hotel. I have been a member with AMEX many years and was a disappointment. For the price you have to pay to stay at this hotel at least the services provided need to reflect and meet the standards of their guests. Restaurant staff amazing ,helpful and always with a smile.

The Mandarin Oriental Lucerne is the worst customer service experience I have ever had in my entire life. We are paying to stay in a suite and the ball has been dropped every step of the way. There was hair in the shower of our suite upon arrival. Additionally, I have never received any of our in person dining experience beverage orders in a timely manner (or likely at all without two reminders). Additionally, today we departed the suite at 6:30 am for an all day Swiss Alps hiking experience and when we returned at midnight, our room turn down service had never come. For what we paid for a suite to celebrate a special occasion, if I wanted to deliver a meaningful customer service experience, I would have ensured the room was perfectly prepared in the 18 hours it was vacated. I have received impeccably improved service in lesser star hotels across the globe. Not only will we not be back, but due to the negative customer service experience, we are not moving forward with two massages or fine dining experiences. Embarrassing.

What an absolute pleasure to visit the Mandarin Oriental Lucerne Palace. This hotel was filled with surprises and delights and is quickly becoming the new destination in Lucerne.

From arrival to departure, the entire team went above and beyond to ensure we were warmly welcomed and well taken care of. We really appreciated the pride the team took in sharing the history of the palace and how the team carefully curated the refurbish. (Ask to the see the Alpine Saloon)

Located right on the water, the location cannot be beat. Tastefully decorated with famous Mandarin Oriental robes all helped make deliver the Mandarin experience. If you’ve stayed at other MOs then you’ll be expecting an extremely high quality stay, the Lucerne Palace just levelled up what ‘MO standard’ means. If you’re new to Mandarin hotels, you’ll walk out of here a fan longing to return.

The breakfast was a perfect combination of buffet and a la carte. With a staff working hard to ensure guests were well taken care of; the breakfast alone is worth the visit.

The spa and amenities were also top notch and a perfect place to battle some jet lag or enjoy a quiet pause.

Highly recommended.

One reason to stay at a brand luxury hotel is an expectation of quality, service and responsibility.

My wife had a serious slip and fall on the century old marble staircase with brand new carpet . The result a broken leg and a challenging surgery.

The staff was lovely and accommodating. The hotel however never stopped charging for every little service with my now incapacitated wife. Tens of thousands of dollars in costs incurred to deal with our new circumstances, you would have thought the hotel would have offered some accommodations.

Not the end of the world for me personally, but a very bad experience coupled with the mandarins sad corporate attitude.

Yes in the usa it would have been a “lawyers” dream. But not from thousands of miles away .

Just a reminder when you travel you have choices. The mandarin brand is one i could never recommend again.

If you choose this location. I have added a picture of the staircase.

Recommendation, take the elevator.

Exquisite hotel in an amazing lake-front location. I adored my lake view junior suite and definitely recommend splurging as the lake is just so stunningly beautiful and it’s such a treat to wake up every morning looking at it with your own private balcony. This location is much better than being in the main touristy hub as it’s a little quieter and has a beautiful promenade in front of it, lined by pruned chestnut trees, that goes all the way down this side of the lake. Plenty of restaurants and things to do and still only a short stroll from the main tourist drag. All the staff were perfect - friendly yet non-intrusive and very respectful. The breakfast was amazing with elegant and efficient service and lots of options at the buffet. Could be improved with a swimming pool and pay-per-view movies in suite, but pretty darn close to perfection! I also love the new renovations and that everything is brand-new yet tastefully complimentary to the original building’s architectural integrity.

We have stayed in many Mandarin Oriental hotels around the world so we were excited to visit their relatively new hotel in Luzern. Let’s start with the positives… beautiful renovation of the property and the rooms are excellently decorated with everything you could possibly desire. We had a superior lake view with balcony which was great for sitting on and having our morning coffee or a glass of wine before dinner. The views are breathtakingly beautiful so would strongly suggest you book a room overlooking the lake!
Now for the not so good…I booked a table in advance in MOzern and advised we wanted to take advantage of their ‘Palace Hour’ which is marketed on their social media and website. On arrival to the restaurant I had to ask for that particular menu as the waitress just gave me the standard drinks and food menu, whilst it may not have been their intention to forget about it, I felt it somewhat inconsiderate and strangely felt they weren’t promoting it in order to charge full price for the selection of food and beverages, if it is available then why not offer it? We ordered some cocktails, mine arrived in a dirty glass with lipstick marks so had to be changed. Our food was tasty and of good quality.
We ate breakfast in MOzern, a meal I always look forward to, however, it was quite frankly a shambles. We waited over 25 minutes for our coffee, chased three times for them to come out stone cold. Another 10 minutes passes and coffee arrives which was fine. Certain things on the buffet had run out and weren’t replenished quickly enough, I had to wait a while for sauces too. All in all a completely unacceptable level of service.
On our day of arrival whilst waiting for our room to be ready we decided to have a drink near the reception area, menus were provided and then it took an unacceptable period of time for anyone to take our order, so much so I asked concierge if we had been forgotten about.
On our day of departure the outdoor terrace was closed due to some construction work. No information was provided about this in advance so we were left with the only option to have drinks at the bar even though the weather was glorious, if we were advised of this in advance we may have gone elsewhere.
It is clear there is a communication issue and there are training issues within their food and beverage department. Whilst I am a big fan of Mandarin Oriental, I feel they fell quite short of my expectations and experiences from their other properties.
Interestingly I was advised on checkout they would email me my final bill and someone from food and beverage would be in contact with me. I have received neither.

Recently started at the mandarin Oriental Lucerne Palace for a 2 night stay in 2 connecting rooms....one lake view suite connecting to a room. The rooms were well appointed. Rooms were booked with a virtuoso rate which gave us free breakfast and a food and beverage credit.
Rooms were all well appointed , recently refurbished. Beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were immaculate. The location of the hotel is ideal and on the lake. We enjoyed breakfast but the buffet food was cold. We also enjoyed some drinks on the terrace outside. The hotel concierge helped us plan a trip to Mount Riga. They also helped us to book a reservation for a restaurant in nearby Zurich. I think the value for the money is not there. But overall an enjoyable experience.
