My wife and I stayed 3 nights at the hotel dei Macchiaioli in Florence and had a very good experience. The hotel staff (especially Lorenzo at the front desk) was very cordial and went out of their way to make our stay in Florence very pleasant. The hotel is an easy walk from the Firenze S.M.N train terminal and only 2 1/2 blocks from the Duomo. While our room's only window looked into an alley, the room was very comfortable, clean, quiet, and well-appointed with a nice restroom. Their complimentary breakfast offerings were varied, fresh, and delicious and served in a beautiful room looking out on the street with an amazing ceiling dating back to the time that the building was a wealthy private residence. My only reason for not giving our rating a 5 was my wife's disappointment that the room did not have a view; however, the silver lining was that the bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet without street noise as we had experienced elsewhere. We will look forward to returning to the hotel dei Macchiaioli again in the future. P.S. - the hotel entry is adjacent to the Leonardo Da Vinci Museum which was very interesting to me (who just retired from a 45 yr career in construction & engineering)

Having never been to Italy before, I chose our places to stay based on online information. The Hotel dei Macchiaioli is located in the same building as the DaVinci Museum up up a couple of flights of stairs. The street is VERY busy if you choose to drive. The hotel has a parking garage they work with so someone comes and picks up your car and then brings it back when you are ready to depart. The charge is 25 Euros/day. After driving in Florence suggest you hand over the keys and leave it until you are ready to fight your way out of the city! We were very happy with this hotel and fantastic location. If you are interested in a place with a view, this may not be a good choice. You can either have a room overlooking the street (loud) or on the inside looking at other rooms. The rooms are smallish like most we found in Italy but the bed was quite comfortable and the bathroom very nice. The only issue we had was an air conditioner that would not work. We tried cracking open the windows but mosquitoes found their way in. As we were only there two nights and did not sort out the ACV issue until the second night, we did not alert the staff to the problem until our departure so cannot comment if they would have been able to get the AC working in a short period of time. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was typical Italian, pastries, juice, etc.. The Duomo is only a one block walk from the hotel as is the Accadamie (statue of David) so the location is outstanding.

We were on our way from Monterosso to Venice and decided to spend a day/night in Florence. We needed a room somewhere in town and read reviews that indicated that this hotel would fit the bill. Well, it did very well! It's in a great location within a short walk to the Museum Accademia (David). We could also walk comfortably to a host of sites including the Duomo and popular plaza(s). Our room was large with a very comfortable bed and large bathroom/shower. Breakfast was included and served in a very nice room near the lobby. A big thumbs up for Hotel dei Machhiaioli!

The hotel was in great location only ten minutes or less to the Duomo. Although we got a taxi to bologna airport the train station is within walking distance. Simple basic rooms and spotlessly clean. Dinning room has a beautiful ceiling and balcony to street. The staff are lovely, warm, friendly and helpfull. For such a busy city everyone is really pleasant. Enjoy

Our first impression of the hotel was that it had a Leonardo da Vinci Museum in the ground floor, and we were received by a very kind and cheerful man in the front desk. This was absolute good news taking into consideration the dreadful previous experience we had had with the hotel we had booked before arriving in the city. It is important to say that this hotel has its name after a group of Impressionist painters who decorated some of the ceilings of the house, and we were lucky enough to sleep our first night in one of the rooms that has such paintings. This told me this was the right place to be in Florence. The other room we were given was good, smaller, but all the same cozy and comfortable! Breakfasts were good: assortment of breads, cheese, yogurt, cakes, and Nutella. The service was very nice and the cappuccino made up for a good start of the day. The location of the hotel was awesome because it was not in the midst of the bustling activity of the historic center of the city, but was still close enough as to go and refresh ourselves before having supper or just to leave our shopping bags to go back out. The staff at the hotel was quite helpful and helped us get tickets for the Accademia and can recommend places to eat and drink. Our stay in Florence was beautiful, and definitely an important part of this experience was because the Macchiaioli opened its doors for us. We are very grateful for their hospitality and impeccable service.

I stayed here when in Florence in the triple room with some family and the decor was absolutely amazing! It was a very large space, with a double bed as well as two single beds, and they had a double sofa bed too. The wifi was really good and they had desktops in the lobby to use if you needed to book any tours or buy tickets online which they would then print for you which was very helpful. The location was also so convenient as it was a less than 5 minute walk from the Duomo and the walk is scenic and there are many restaurants around making it easy to enjoy your day without planning too much.

This hotel is located in the central part of town in the historic center. The breakfast room has beautiful frescos and is a great way to start your day. The room with private bath was comfortable with plenty of space. The bed was typically hard and the shower a tad bit small. The staff was really great and friendly and made coffee to order every day.

The hotel's location is a straight-shot from the Duomo--just exit to the street, turn right, and walk straight. It's also a 5-minute walk from the Galleria dell'Accademia (Michelangelo's David). However, it's on the opposite side of the Duomo from the Uffizi Gallery and the Arno River, so those sights are farther, about 15 minutes away. Just to repeat again what others have said: There is no elevator. If you arrive during the day as we did, staff may be available to help you carry your luggage up. But I'm not sure if someone will be available to help you if you need to check in after daytime hours. That said, there's also a motorized chair that elderly and disabled people can use to go up to the hotel--I assume you'd have to request the staff to be able to use it. The breakfast was good. There's a coffee machine that makes coffee, but you can also ask the staff to make real espresso for you, if you prefer that instead. The wi-fi in the room was basic and good enough for emails and social networking, but don't expect to be streaming videos with it. The connection also dropped from time to time. Although our room was clean, there were a couple of minor issues with it: 1) The toilet was oddly taller than standard height. It reminded me of some toilets in U.S. hospitals, where the seats are elevated. Perhaps our room was designated for accessibility? 2) There were some dark-colored spots and streaks on the walls, which looked like mold. I wasn't too surprised seeing it, since the ventilation in the bathroom was a small window that you need to open to let out the moist air. Overall, it's a good hotel to stay at.

I stayed one weekend into Hotel dei Macchiaioli and had a good night. The hotel is in the same building than the Leonardo Da Vinci museum and you have the typical high ceilings with some of them even with amazing painting. It’s nice to have a breakfast in such place 😊 The location is very central and away from some busy streets. Reception staff is friendly and welcoming... I felt a bit at home. The room is nicely decorated and bathroom ok, except the limited space in front of the toilet. Only two bad point are: - the internet connection that makes a simple search of a restaurant phone number a real adventure and require lot of patience. - the breakfast quality

Excellent location: the hotel is in the heart of Firenze, a few meters from Duomo, San Lorenzo and Academia. Near to everything! Staff: the woman that welcomed us was very kind and even though we had arrived early and our rooms wasn’t prepared, she offered us another, already prepared room in order not to wait. Room: big, clean and warm room, full equipped (flippers and all the necessary stuff in the bathroom) Nice breakfast (it could have more things but it was good). We stayed only for one night, I wish we could stay more!
