At the heart of Cortona , pensione ‘Dolce Maria’ feels like a quattrocento house ( it probably is ), with high ceilings, monumental stairs and a narrow tower (in la « Torreta » room ) overlooking the magnificent landscape . Few things seemed to have changed since the time of Fra Angelico . ( Among our century’s innovations are an excellent bed and a large bathroom ) . Paola ( the outspoken hostess) gave us an amazing breakfast with hot coffee , freshly picked fruits , recently made jams ,and bread still warm from the oven . Our Cortona ‘s aesthetic experience started indoors
We had two outstanding experiences with Paola at Dolce Maria - a truly delicious dinner on our first night in Cortona and then a half day cooking and lunch with a large group of our friends. Paola is an inspired chef and teacher. The environment is so lovely and her warmth is contagious. Not to be missed.
Paula is an inspired chef & teacher in her beautiful home, B & B & tuscan kitchen. We brought our 3 teen godchildren for a total of 7 & learned about the Tuscan traditional cooking of pasta, bread, pizza & gnocchi. It was fun & inspiring. Our friends joined us for lunch in Dolce Maria’s garden to enjoy our creation where we feasted on the hand rolled pici, tagliatelle & gnocchi in three different sauces, along with The regions meats, cheeses & our handmade breads straight from the oven. We were lucky enough to dine at Dolce Maria our first night in Cortona where our party of 10 sampled almost everything on the menu with rave reviews. We’re staying in a villa but would happily stay at the B& B Dolce Maria with all it’s Tuscan beauty. The staff, Sara & Micaela are also fun & lovely. Thank you for a very special experience.…
Our room was vast, if a little careworn in this historic building. No lift but not a problem for us Centrally located but in a quiet side street. Dinner at the Pozza Antica downstairs is also recommended. The fresh asparagus was abundant.
Set in the heart of the old town this B & B is a must stay. We loved the service from our host Paola and her husband, the room was beautiful and clean with a great bathroom (but hard flat pillows which took away from the comfort a bit) and the breakfast tasty.
