On our way from Greece to Vienna we needed a place to stay for one night. What a fantastic find. We arrived rather late and tired and were met by the charming and smiling Elizabeth who immediately made us feel at home. The building is wonderfully restored and has an engaging atmosphere. Our bedroom was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The evening meal was authentic regional Italian cuisine and was delicious as was the wine. Breakfast was also very good with many homemade products. A wonderful place to stay.
We just stopped at this agritourismo for the pasta class and had a wonderful time. The owners are enchanting and welcoming. We learned to make two pastas, and enjoyed them for lunch. It looks like it would also be wonderful to stay there, but, alas, we had to move on.
My entire family of 9 booked out Fattoria Corte Roeli for a whole week, and could not speak more highly of our experience here. Everything was perfect. Some highlights include: - Betta, her husband Roberto, her son Leandro, and the nonne Giorgia and Luciana are all the warmest, sweetest, kindest, and most welcoming people you will ever meet. Not all of them spoke English, but hugs and gestures are a universal language, and we communicated very easily. - Betta was amazingly helpful and patient with our large motley crew - from random requests to grab more water, to help translating text messages from Vodafone, to walking directions through Bologna, to restaurant recommendations, calling restaurants to warn them we were coming so they could locate English-speaking staff in advance, she was always available via Whatsapp and email, and never once hesitated to help us out. - The rooms were all modern and clean, with strong air-conditioning (we stayed in the height of summer so can attest to this!), awesome bathrooms, and rooms were made up every day with fresh towels. Hotel standards! - Breakfast is provided in the cost of the rooms and is an absolute bargain. Often we ate so much we did not need much lunch! Homemade cakes every morning, as many coffees as you want, eggs to order, cheeses and yogurts, seasonal juice from their own farms (in summer we got to try the apricot, pear, and grape), plates of very good ham... I've never had such good breakfasts anywhere in my life. - We did two cooking classes (one pasta-making class, and one four-course cooking class) for what we felt were very reasonable prices, especially since they come with the lunch or dinner immediately following so you get to eat everything you helped to cook! Highly recommended. We ate until we were so stuffed we couldn't move, wine was provided, and everything was excellent. - We were easy driving distance from Ferrara and Bologna, both of which were charming cities absolutely worth the visit. We also visited Modena and Sant'Agata de Bolognese for some balsamic vinegar and car racing. We also drove out to Ravenna, which was quite the schlep, but also doable if you allot a full day. Location-wise we felt we were well-situated to experience the heart of Emilia-Romagna. None of us would hesitate to return to Fattoria Corte Roeli... one of us is already planning a golf trip next year! I would like to return in the spring or the fall, to be able to try their wonderful spring vegetables, or to partake in the fruits of the fall harvest. Probably also fewer mosquitoes when it's not summer. ;-) Regardless of the season, I have no doubt that Betta and Roberto and their family will be there to welcome us with big hugs and kisses, just like family. Room tips, since they wouldn't fit in the box below. We stayed in all 5 rooms and they were all fantastic! Things to note: - Corbezzolo has the largest bed and a bathroom with an external window for better ventilation. South-facing. - Gelso Bianco has a smaller bed than Corbezzolo, but correspondingly more space to move around in / more room for suitcases. Bathroom does not air to the outside. South-facing. - Corniolo has a charming canopy bed which is on the firmer side compared to the other rooms' beds. West-facing. - Melograno is a single room but the single bed does convert to a bunk bed to sleep two. (It's pretty cool. :) ) The airconditioning is very powerful in here! Bathroom has an external window. North-facing. - Biricoccolo is also a single room; smaller than the rest, but plenty of room for 1. South-facing.…
Roberto and Elizabeta personify what good hosts should be like. Clean rooms and delicious food provided. Italian cooking classes were fun.
Elisabetta and Roberto were lovely, warm, attentive hosts. The nonnas make fabulous cakes and all the food was delicious. We enjoyed their sparkling wine on a daily basis and Elisabetta helped us with advice and organising a trip to a local balsamic vinegar brewer. All the food had local 'roots' and they have a real desire to use as many locally sourced products as possible. We will return!
