This was a great place to stay for a few days in Rome. This was a $10 cab ride from Roma Termini and walking distance (within 30 minutes) of every tourist attraction you’d want to see. Martina was friendly and fun. She didn’t mind making me coffee (I drink a lot). She was so kind and helpful to show us the must stop places on our journey. The doors outside slam a bit and you can hear it in the room but other than that, it was great.…
Must admit when our cab driver dropped us off we weren’t sure what to think as the hotel is behind a locked door off a small street. But, once we found how to get in and out, we enjoyed the large comfortable room/beds, huge shower, and central location with lots of nearby shops and cafes. It truly is close to everything —Piazza Norvona, the Vatican, etc. Breakfast buffet was included at a nice restaurant just around the corner and they arranged a car for us to the airport. A little quirky that the front desk isn’t manned 24/7, but we didn’t run into any issues so all was fine. We will definitely stay here again!…
Martina is the hostess who aims to please and she does. She came down to meet me as I was frazzled after I rang and said I asked the taxi driver to let me out after he scraped two cars in the narrow cobble stone streets and hit a pot plant and then had the nerve to overcharge ( 50 euro) as he said he got lost. Meter was half that though Martina told me locals only pay 10-12 euro. She showed me to my room, air conditioner was on which was great as I was so hot. She explained the door situation and even got me to test it as there are big green doors out front which you unlock to enter a courtyard style entry, then go up a couple flights of steps (she helped me with my bags which I was grateful for as my knees aren’t too good) to reception which is opened with a key card as is the room. It is down an alley typical of Roman streets. The room is fine for the price, hey if you want luxury you have to pay for it. It was clean and functional though I had a bit of trouble getting the hang of the shower which is a hand held one. The floor boards are tired, need replacing but ok and better lighting would make the place feel even better. The room has a safe. Bed was comfortable, I slept well after walking all over Rome. breakfast was excellent around the corner and included in price. Full buffet, hot and cold food. Martina gave me an excellent map which helped when I got lost and ran out of phone charge. Martina also helped me by booking a private driver at a flat rate fee of 25 euro to take me to the station for my next stop Florence. I was happy with that as I didn’t want to haggle. She also helped by confirming my tour in Florence which was not really her domain but as I said she goes over and above. All in all great location and wonderful hostess. Hope they pay her well. She is an asset to them. Her bright smile when you arrive tired is gold. These little places do create memories and a little adventure away from chain style hotels which are mostly the same. …
This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I am not someone who complains or is high maintenance about hotels, but this was BAD. The room itself was fine— but here’s what happened: We had a room booked here for just one night before flying home. We needed a late check in as we were coming from Sorrento and check in ended at 7 pm. Our taxi driver gave us our keys and walked us to our room. The hotel, which is on the 3rd floor of some residential apartments, was completely empty. We thought it was weird, but the room was fine. We went to dinner and out for our last evening in Rome. When we got back, a bit after midnight, the stairwells leading up to the hotel were completely black. We used our phones to be able to find the door. The hotel itself was completely dark, too. Power was out. Nothing worked. No one was there to help us. There was an emergency phone # left on the counter. I called it and messaged it multiple times, the call was declined every time. Note, this was end of June, massive heat wave in Rome, no A/C working, dripping sweat in the dark in this hotel. Then, huge, ear-splitting alarms started going off throughout the hotel. I was trying to call other hotels at this point to find somewhere we could stay and the alarms were so loud I could not even talk on the phone. It is now 1 am, my husband’s flight was at 6 am in the morning, we couldn’t possibly stay where we were...long, awful story short, we wandered the streets of the area until a kind waitress walked us to another hotel who had an available room. <The area did not feel safe, it was very sketchy, lots of very drunk people partying very hard.> I received a message early the next morning on What's App from the hotel that was curt and rude and denied any accountability. I walked back to the Borgofico hotel (my husband and I were on different flights) to try and resolve the issue, and was told we would still be charged for the room we were unable to use. Of course it was not the hotel’s fault about the power. However, they treated us very poorly. Why have an emergency line if the employee assigned to it declines all calls? When you rent a hotel room, you don't just pay for a bed, but for a way to charge our phones so we could wake up in the morning for an early flight, for A/C, for power, for quiet to be able to sleep. At the very least, someone should’ve been available to assist hotel guests during such a crazy event. I have no idea why this hotel, which had fairly good reviews online, was so empty. It was like the twilight zone or something. Our friends that were staying in another room at the hotel got video footage of the event and were so angry they canceled the credit card used at booking so they couldn’t be charged. Worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. (Note: I had been so impressed with Martina as we were making our plans originally. She was kind and professional. She was also mortified about the situation when I spoke to her the following day, but the management above her is absolutely horrible.)…
The location is the best thing about this bed and breakfast. It is basic but modern enough and clean. Some things were a slighty not in pristine condition but don’t let that put you off. The bed was very comfortable and the rooms were quite well soundproofed. There is a lovely fig tree right outside with great little restaurants. The host is lovely and speaks English and it is situated a 5 minute walk from Piazza Navona. In fact it is within walking distance of all the major tourist attractions enabling you to do some sightseeing then come back to your room for a rest before setting out again. The only thing I didn’t like was the spa. It is 20 euro to use and it looks like it is in a storage room. But being Rome there is so much to see that you wouldn’t have time to use it anyway.…
