Detailed Reviews

The Hotel XX Settembre was a pleasant suprise during my visit to Rome. I had to check out of the Domus Aurea after it was unacceptable, and found myself quickly needing to find a place. A friend recommended the XX Settembre, but I was reluctant after seeing no reviews on Trip Advisor. After finding other options full, I gave the XX Settembre a chance and am glad I did. This is one of those rare occasions when the hotel and the rooms are much nicer than the website lets on.
The hotel has either been recently remodeled or is brand new. Everything in the hotel is sparkling clean and feels very new. The rooms are huge, especially for a hotel in Europe. Extremely huge. The bed was comfortable, nice minibar and other luxuries, clean, large bathroom with a large shower, and fast and well-priced wifi access in every room. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Its on sort of a back street with no view to speak of, but is close to a major street that takes you a few blocks/5 minutes to get to Piazza Republicca, so not a bad location to be in if you want to be close to Termini station, yet still very easy to get to the sights of Center City or anywhere you need to go via metro. If you are a family from Suburbia, the location could make you apprehensive, though its perfectly safe. If you live in an urban area or are well-travelled, you probably won't blink twice at the location. XX Settembre is a great option for a nice hotel at a very reasonable price for Rome.

We booked our room reluctantly at XX Settembre in Rome, Italy, not knowing what to expect. To our surpise the, the hotel was very clean, it has either been renovated recently, or is brand new, the interior is pristine. The rooms are sparklingly clean and well stocked with all the amenities (nice linens, mini bar, wi-fi internet access). The hotel does not face a main road, but is facing an inner road, hardly ten meters from the main road. The location is quite central, its about a 5-10 minute walk from the main Termini station which connects you to all the sights in rome. There are plenty of good sit down restaurants, take away pizza shops and cafes within a few minutes from it. Continental breakfast was included in our room charges.
Something to be aware of, when we checked in, we were intialilly given a small room with very low ceilings (no more than 6 feet tall!!), but after I talked to the manager at the reception they were extremely accomodating and promptly gave us a much better room with 10 feet ceilings. Something to keep in mind when you are checking in.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel without any reservations.

First the good - Giuseppe at the front desk was wonderful. He was helpful with suggestions and tips.
Now the bad - When we returned from a LONG, HOT day for the comforts of our room, our AC did not work. Not good when it was 104 Degrees F in Rome that day.

For affordable, comfortable accomodation, and convenience of a central location, with easy access to the main attractions of rome, the Hotel Venti Settembre is definitely one worth a look. It reaches a decent standard for a 3 star hotel, simple, clean, and efficiently run. The hotel can be reached within 10 minutes of departing termini station on foot. Reception on arrival is manned 24 hrs, you are greeted by extremely friendly, polite, and accomodating reception staff. Their english is of a reasonably good standard, but sometimes things can be lost in translation so be careful to explain clearly. The hallway leads to a small but comfortable lounge area with seating, and a computer area which you can use for free. WIFI I might also add (during my stay) was available in room and was free of charge. On the right just after the computer area is a door which leads to a small breakfast room. Breakfasts here are continental, so you won't expect a full english or a stunningly vast ammount of food, however available on a daily basis was, bread, coissants, fruit (apples, oranges), ham, cheese, boiled eggs, cereal, toast making facilities, juice, milk, water, and tea and coffee. 8 tables in all in the room so it can get busy. at the end of the hall is a lift, be warned it is very small, so getting your luggage plus passengers in is a pretty tight squeeze. The room I stayed in was on the first floor, room 105 a economy triple room, although pretty compact, had three single beds, a table, wardrobe with small safe, small tv (no english channels), fridge/mini-bar en-suite bathroom with shower, sink, toilet, and bidet. the room. My main complaints for this room would be it wasn't really designed for 3 beds, more suited as a twin room and the poisition of the 3rd bed blocked the access to the door, which meant lifting a wheelchair in and out. The room smelt a little musty when we arrived and although improved over the 6 days didn't really go away. There wasn't really sufficiant lighting in the room bar two side table lamps and a lamp on the dressing table. the positioning of this room (window facing apartments), there was not alot of light coming through the window. And we had an issue with the sink popup waste, which took some explaining to get them to understand what needed fixing. This aside the room provided a reasonably comfortable stay. The beds were firm but comfortable enough. Fresh towels and linen were provided regularly. Overall as a reasonable budget hotel the stay was good with a few minor areas for improvement.

The first night at this hotel was not good, I was give the wrong room, and my guest who arrived to see that I got to Rome safely, was treat to a rude display of manners that I can only say was unnecessary to say the least.
The next morning after speaking to a very nice Italian man on the desk about the mix up, they had me in my correct room within minutes, while train two very capable trainee receptionist.
As per the title, it was a bad start but a good finish, its a three and a half star hotel, trying to be a four star, and for that I commend them in there efforts, there on the right track.

The main hotel is a nice place with friendly, helpful staff. Unfortunately we got put in the rooms across the road.
The jail style set of keys and the tiny lift left us confused as we attempted to guess which door to try. Once we opened the right door, we were greeted by another door to the room. A simple, small room.
Two things to note. Forget the hotel free wifi in here. It's a dead zone.
The shower is a hot water heater, normally found under a sink. This offers limited hot water from a trickle of a shower head.
Not that you need it but only fuzzy bbc news channel on TV.
Breakfast takes you back to the main hotel, where your reminded that they put you in the cheap seats across the way. Food is simple continental but plenty of it and tastes fine.
The hotel is a short walk from the main station and we found nothing was more than 45 minute walk away. Although transport links are everywhere.
I thought being out of season we would secure a room in the hotel but I did feel that they looked at the price I paid and decided the hotel was too good.

Booked this on Priceline for a great price, and my wife and I were very happy with our visit! Stayed 4 nights. The room we were given was very clean—fresh towels and linens every day, really well taken care of. (Unlike many leaving reviews here, we stayed in the main hotel building, so can't speak to the experience of staying elsewhere).
The staff was great and trustworthy. We left our bags there on the last day, since our flight wasn't until the evening. I unknowingly left one of my expensive camera memory cards in the room, and they made sure to give it back to me when we returned to pick up our bags.
The only minor complaints:
*The internet went down for a couple of days. This wasn't really the hotel's issue, as they were waiting on the telephone company to come fix it—but it was definitely a hassle when trying to arrange our sightseeing plans.
*The breakfast is only average. Nothing much fresh, except for some fruit—lots of sweet pastries, or plain bread with cheese and ham. Want anything freshly cooked or really nutritious, you'll have to look elsewhere.

What can I say? This is a lovely and friendly little hotel situated about a 5-10 minute walk from the main Termini station (although I walk quite fast) in a quiet side street.
On arrival, I was greeted cheerily by the guy (Gianluca) on reception who was very pleasant and genuinely friendly. He checked me in promptly, provided a map of Rome and marked off all the main attractions and nearby metro stations and recommended a nearby restaurant.
I went up to my single bed room and, although basic, it was very clean and tidy and had a nice fresh smell about it. There was a working TV, working climate control (which went straight on as it was very warm weather), a perfectly spotless bathroom with (shower, toilet and sink), clean towels and some complimentary toiletries.
There is also a small safe in the wardrobe that was very easy to use by setting a new combination number. It is not big enough for large items like an iPad but I didn't have one so this was fine. It is perfect for storing passport, cash, tickets etc. There is also a small fridge in the room, although I didn't use it, but the previous occupant had left a can of beer in it which I was happy to crack open :o)
The bed was reasonably comfortable and I slept well each night after a hard day of exploring. Not the best but certainly not the worst I have slept in. I used the blanket from the wardrobe as an extra pillow. I am sure I could have asked for another one instead but it really wasn't a problem for me.
The room was cleaned every day and I was very happy to sleep there. I did not spend a great deal of time in the room as I was always out exploring for the whole day and night.
Breakfast is provided between 7-10am, however I cannot comment on how good it was because I did not eat at the hotel due to my preference to eat while out and about instead.
Price wise, I think this is well priced. I got a flight and hotel deal via Expedia and paid approximately £360 for return flights and 4 nights accommodation. For Rome, I thought this was very good value.
There are plenty of nearby convenience shops for bottles of water, beer, snacks, toiletries, sunblock etc. There is also a day time market in the next street which is great for buying fresh fruit.
The staff I interacted with (day receptionist, afternoon receptionist, night porter and cleaners) were all very friendly, particularly the two guys working on the reception. Always asking what I had been doing that day and taking an interest in my visit.
This is a great location for access to public transport as the main railway station, a few metro stops and buses are all close by. The main part of the city and the key attractions are all within walking distance (approx 20 minutes to the Trevi Fountain for example) and I like to walk everywhere.
The restaurant recommended by the hotel is literally around the corner (Via Montebello), less than a minute's walk. It is called Barbablu and the staff there are, again, so nice and friendly.
The food is great and very reasonably priced compared to the main centre of Rome, you get much more for your money. Plus, the hotel will give you a recommendation slip to take with you which gets you a free small glass of Prosecco on arrival and a shot of Limoncello after your meal :o) What's not to like about that?!
So, all in all, I would recommend this hotel as being ideal for a short break in Rome. If you expect luxury, then you should dig a little deeper into your pocket, if you just want a pleasant place to use as a base then XX Settembre ticks all the right boxes.

The Hotel is overall a good hotel, providing a comfortable stay in an excellent location at a reasonable price. The staff are pleasant and friendly, with one in particular on reception (late afternoon to mid evening) providing excellent customer service. Breakfast is adequate, what you would expect from a 3 star Italian hotel.
However, the hotel does suffer from some significant organisational issues and does in fact provide two different products - economy and standard. This has been blurred by the hotel slightly and on arrival late in the evening, we were placed in an economy room (no windows and small) despite booking standard. We were told it was the only room that they had available for that night.
Whilst we would have been happy with the economy room, had we booked it, it was a disappointing start to our stay at the hotel and I felt that the owner didn't fully appreciate why it was an unacceptable thing to do, putting customers who had paid for standard rooms into an economy one.
The standard room was very pleasant, clean, light and spacious.
We would stay again.
