Detailed Reviews
My friend and I arrived in Madrid on a Fri evening just before the lockdown on Saturday. We were supposed to be at the Ibis Styles but I think they were closing so transferred us here. Our rooms were fine, clean, the beds comfortable and good hot shower. As hardly anyone in the hotel and due to the coronavirus situation, the buffet was not available but the staff brought us all the fruits, drinks and cooked eggs we wanted. On the Saturday as all the restaurants were closed, one of the staff heated up a microwave meal for us and chatted to us as nothing was open. So we would like to thank all the staff, particularly Anna at breakfast and Sam on Saturday night for making our strange stay more enjoyable! The hotel is very well located for all the tourist sites. Could not comment on any noise issues as no one in the hotel to disturb us! Only suggestion would be to clean up some of the grout on the tiles near the bath. Otherwise, despite the strange circumstances, we enjoyed our weekend. Also the hotel is very near Atocha station where you can pick up the airport bus, 5 euros per person, every 15 mins.

I stayed here for 3 nights for a meeting which was being held nearby. I chose this hotel due to the location and my Accor membership. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much aside from these two benefits I was keen on.
All I want from a hotel is that it is clean and I have a good night’s sleep. The rooms were clean but it would have been one of the worst stays with regards to sleep I have had in a long time. There was constant noise from the main road nearby. I could hear every word of conversations in the corridor and in the next door rooms. It was also very noisy from the people walking around at all hours upstairs. Luckily, I had ear plugs in the bottom of my bag which helped.
The staff did not seem overly pleased to be working, either at check in / out or when I had a question during my stay. The exception was the lady at breakfast who was very cheerful. Breakfast only starts at 7am which is a bit tight for business purposes.
There isn’t a real bar or restaurant, only a vending machine type set up. The hotel seemed more like an Ibis than a Mercure. The location is close to the old town and some great tapas bars. After this, I stayed for the weekend at another Mercure on the other side of town which was 100x better.

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. Starting with the positives: the location is good. Across from Prado Museum, close to many good restaurants and bars and close to the bus stop when you're coming from the airport. The basic rooms are not too small and have a well equipped bathroom. Room and bathroom are kept very clean. We had a room at the front of the hotel with a little balcony looking out onto the Prado. Wifi in the room is good, not so in the breakfast area. Breakfast has a good selection of fresh foods (coffee is not the best though). The minibar has 5 soft drinks that are complementary. They are not restocked. There is a kettle and some soluble coffee, no nespresso. There are no bathrobes.
Pablo at the reception was extremely friendly and nice... Some staff are friendly... However, upon arrival, check in was done with a long face making me feel unwelcome. I am a Diamond All Accor member and yes, I am used to being treated like a VIP in hotels of the Accor chain. This hotel did not make me feel special in any way. There was no upgrade even though I kindly asked for one months before our arrival. There were lovely chocolate snacks in the room as an apology which was a nice gesture, but they simply replaced the welcome gift. I e-mailed beforehand that it was my boyfriend's birthday during our stay and a special gift was agreed upon (birthday cake). However, there was no gift even though during our stay I reminded staff that we were celebrating his special day.
If you are looking for an impersonal hotel with good rooms and a good location and you can get a good deal then I would recommend the hotel. If you are looking for that little extra and especially if you are used to being pampered in hotels (or you have expectations because you are a Diamond member), then I suggest you look elsewhere. I find it a pity, a smile and keeping their promises would have made all the difference for me.

Dear Chantal, Firstly we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your impressions regarding your recent stay at our Mercure Madrid Centro****. It is only through feedback such as yours that we are able to maintain and improve upon the service that we provide to our guests. I would like to apologize if we couldn´t do an upgrade on your reservation, we are the only one hotel Mercure in Madrid city and we are always fully booked. I remember you had send some mails from January and we tryed our best to do a free upgrade but, we only have 6 superior rooms and all of them were already booked. Thats why we gave to you a room with balcony to the main street, to guarantee nice views during your stay. On the 14th we let on your room a piece of cake for your boyfriend´s birthday with a note, we are sorry if you had expected another kind of surprise, or another kinds of present, normally this birthday details, makes our guests very excited! but, we will take a note to keep working on it and improve to do better surprises. We hope all is not lost and that you will contact us the next time you are in town so we may offer our improved services. Best regards, Rosario Ortega Front Desk Manager

Rooms are refurbished and pleasant and modest sized. Staff were very friendly but very little sound insulation between rooms or outside. With closed windows woken by garbage truck at 0230 then by neighbors television at 0600. Not expensive for location which is close to Atosha Station

Thankfully I only had to spend one night at this property. It's in a very good location, close to the Prado, and with lots of dining options nearby, but otherwise is pretty poor.
The rooms are small and were lacking in a few little things like enough outlets to charge all my devices.
The noise in the room was terrible. I could hear people talking in adjacent rooms, watching TV, etc, and it seemed to be from every direction - at times it was the room next door, at times the room on the other side, other times the room below, etc...
The bed wasn't very comfortable either.
I definitely would not stay here again, especially given that there are many better options nearby.

The location is perfect, just opposite of Prado Museum, and within walking distance of Plaza Mayor and all restaurants and bars.
Receptionists are helpful and reliable, but have some problems with English language, which is surprising.
The Breakfast is OK but not exceptional.
The rooms are well equipped.
The major problem is that the rooms are extremely noisy and the walls are thin. When our neighbours arrived at 5AM, my bed was moving as the neighbour guest jumped into his bed; later we got a free erotic concert for almost half an hour. This is an absolute no-go for a 4-star-hotel.

TThe Mercure Centro Hotel is in an ideal location. It is minutes away from many wonderful typical restaurants and bars, the Prado and other wordclass art museums, and the Retiro park which is stunning for its size and beauty- walkers' or runners' paradise.
All the main sights are withing walking distance and the metro is only 5 minutes away to see sights further afield.
The hotel itself was very nicely designed with good size rooms and bathrooms.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

The Mercury Centro is one of the best locations for visiting Madrid. It is directly across the avenue from the Prado Museum and El Retiro Park with the Crystal Palace and several impressive monuments, fountains, and small lake with row boats for rent. Only 20 minute walk west to Royal Palace and Cathedral with major shopping areas of Plaza Mayor and Plaza Sol in between.
We stayed in a “junior suite” on the top floor where the only two available mini suites each have private outdoor decks with table, chairs, and couch for great morning and evening enjoyment. The rooms were well appointed, even with an exercise bike! Breakfast Buffett was very good with espresso, capuchins, fresh croissants, fresh fruit, the works!

This hotel is centrally located, just 4 minute from El Prado Museum, Reina Sofia, and the Thysen Museum. The hotel has been recently renovated. Rooms have a small fridge and a kettle for coffee/tea. The mattress was super comfortable.
Breakfast was excellent, they offered a variety of breads, cereals, pastries and fruits.
I will definitely come back to this hotel.

We had a fantastic stay at the Mercure Centro in Madrid. The women at reception were amazing and so patient and understanding. They helped with dinner reservations, shuttles, directions, and where to find the best paella. I cannot adequately state how wonderful they are and deserve so many complements. These are the people you see first and constantly never let you down. The Mercure location is so convenient with many local restaurants available near the Prado, Reina, Palace, and Cathedral.

Price does not include breakfast. The hotel website has the prices with and without breakfast for the various room sizes. We like to do breakfast at the hotel and eat a smaller lunch while we’re out. On request, the hotel arranged the airport shuttle which we paid in advance directly to the shuttle company for Euro 35. The driver was waiting with a sign as we exited baggage claim onto the curb.
By the way, we paid every item in Spain with euros as our bank exchange rate was much better than they give you on the fly. Note also your credit card never leaves your hands as Spain has fully implemented US chip card technology. The waiters, cab drivers, sidewalk vendors, basically everybody has the Wi-Fi terminals with a little printer like the check in for rental cars at the airport.very safe and secure.
Shower was in the bath, so not separate
