My husband, myself and our 15 year old spent Christmas week in Berlin at the Marriott. We arrived early (9:30am) on December 24th via Uber from the airport (35 minute drive at a cost of about $60) and they allowed us to check in early to take a power nap and shower. The location is good, the Potsdamer Platz subway station is right there along with the train station. There is also a Christmas market across the street (focus was all food, none of the cute little shops like the larger markets like Alexanderplatz). The hotel was a quick walk to the main attractions in Berlin, Brandenburg gate was about a 7 minute walk, 12 minutes to the Reichstag, 30 minutes to Alexanderplatz, Checkpoint Charlie 10 minutes. It was a few minute walk to the Berlin Mall, that has lots of food choices and grocery store for supplies (although it was closed on December 24, 25, 26th, so plan accordingly if traveling around Christmas). We found using Uber was convenient, but also the subway and buses were right there. As titanium members, we received access to the Executive Lounge, which included a full breakfast in the mornings (always the same thing: scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage plus breads, fruits, yogurt and the usual European breakfast items like meats and cheeses) and had out some sort of snack during the day (croissants or cookies) along with all day access to the beverages like soft drinks (Pepsi, Pepsi Light, Bitter Lemon, Fanta, Tonic Water), tap water (no bottled water!), juice, coffee and tea. In the evenings starting at 5pm there was a light dinner and beer and wine. The dinner was not anything good, each night included some form of stewed/braised meat along with some sort of hot side and cream soup along with cold choices of salads, bread, meats and cheeses. We were not at all impressed with the flavor or texture (meat often inedible and chewy) of the food served, it felt very subpar in comparison to other urban Marriotts we stayed at (for example Marriott Paris Opera House was superb). So don't count on that for a true meal, just some snacks before dinner. We had room service for dinner a couple nights and it was good, although took about an hour each time, so don't be in a rush. The room itself was great, we had a corner room, superior king with a city view. It was spacious and had room for a roll-away bed. The room was spotless and have zero complaints other than the bed is extremely firm, ask for an extra mattress topper, it made a big difference. Since we were there for Christmas, they dropped off a little plate of Christmas goodies (cookies, chocolates, fruit) on Christmas Eve which was a nice touch and was appreciated. There is a hot dog/sausage restaurant downstairs that is attached to the hotel, we ate there for a late lunch one day and it was actually quite good. It was a little odd because the hours were so inconsistent, we weren't sure when they were open. Sometimes they were closed for dinner, sometimes they looked open. We would stay here again and highly recommend it if wanting a Marriott brand property in Berlin.…
