The first night we were there. Something in the bed was making both of us itch like crazy. I had to get up and put a shirt on so I could go back to sleep. So I sent an email to the owner. Cause we are on a trip.. That place is 2 and a 1/2 hours out from anything. No restaurants nothing. It cost you thirty five hundred pesos to get there and thirty five hundred to get to port. You are trapped on that resort. If you wanna do an excursion, that's another five thousand pesos. And they will nickel and dime you from everything. The second night we had ants in the bed. The owner who is a overweight overbearing german, who thinks he's god. He is rude and he ruined my vacation there with insulting me saying I did not schedule a way home early. His filipino wife had to straighten him out that I did. I'm feel sorry for her having to feed him and put up his crap. I would not go there. They could not give me a free night if I wanted too. No free coffee either.

Response from Ralf Kempa, Owner at J&R Residence
Responded 1 week ago
It's all about common sense and Personality It's the 1st of April, Fool's Day, and we received the Review above. As a Resort Owner who has 13 years in Business, I thought nothing would surprise me anymore, then I met bigdw2011. He booked a 2-night stay in one of our beautiful Ocean Front Apartments. bigdw2011 is one of those personalities having such an Aura that birds stop singing, dogs are hiding and Humans voluntarily practice social distancing. In his long life, he wrote already 12 Reviews here on TripAdvisor 8 out of 12 having 1 Star....read and you will understand. But let's talk about some facts: Common sense dictates, that having open sugar packs and sweet instant coffee sachets near the bed as well as food leftovers IN the bed will attract ants. That's why we changed the bed sheets twice and removed all the food leftovers twice. We can't really help with the lack of common sense. Indeed we are located in Anda which is about a 2-hour ride away from the Ferry Port in Tagbilaran. To pick you up, our Van has to drive 200 KM in total for 3.500,- Pesos which means 17.5 Pesos (0,3 USD) per Kilometer. Sometimes mathematics will help to understand the world. Alternatively, you can ride a Bus, a Public Van, or a Tricycle. Saying that organized guests inform us upfront about transportation needs and not when they are sitting on a Ferry at Good Friday.... We have a nice Restaurant on site, but you can also visit the Restaurants of our neighbors which are about 100 Meters away (!!) or take a 5-minute Tricycle ride to the town of Anda where you can find several Bars and Restaurants as well as the Anda Food Park. Knowledge is the key..... I hope I was able to correct the infamous falsehood and fake news here at the 1st of April. It's all about Personality and common sense.....

Beautiful and relaxing location. We rented the Garden house with nice terrace, which included everything what we might needed. It got spacious bedroom with nice bathroom. I appreciated minibar with cold beverages re-filled every day during cleaning. Smiling and helpful staff just supported our overall great experience. Food was tasty as well. Lastly, there are beautiful sea/beach view spots with nice sittings, sun-beds as well as great massage place (don’t leave without full body thai massage). Everything was on point and I can’t give less than 5/5.

We had a last minute booking but Ralf was quite accommodating over the phone. Got there late at night and the staff made us feel welcome right away. We booked the family studio and the 2 ocean front apartments, which were just the right size for everyone in the group. The apartments did have an ant issue in the bathroom, but the staff responded quickly. There are 4 medium sized dogs on the property who like to hang around the table while you’re dining, which was one of the highlights for the kids. Every morning of our stay, folks from our group walked from the resort all the way to Alona Beach and encountered some fascinating sea and shore creatures such as crabs and starfish. Top marks for J & R!

Warm welcome by the owners Jilo, Ralf, and staff. Excellent accommodation, good food. The entire hotel and soft landscaping is spotlessly clean. There is also a well maintained Koi Carp pond. We were in room 7, plenty of space, and a nice view out to sea. The swimming pool is well maintained. You can walk to the local town along the beach when the tide is out. We visited the Save & Earn shop. They kindly sorted a problem with my local "Smart" Sim Card and topped it up for me.

Beyond my wildest expectations. I retired in the Philippines and have had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout this beautiful country. Resorts in the Philippines can be a hit or miss proposition. Unfortunately most severely lack in the areas of customer service, cleanliness and basic maintenance. The concept of pocketing every peso over reinvesting into the property unfortunately seems to be the norm. The great news is this resort is a unicorn. You feel at home as soon as you arrive. The owners personally great you and show you to your room. The rooms are tastefully decorated and exceptionally clean and modern. The restaurant's menu is extensive and the quality and presentation above par. My only complaint was they allowed smoking in the restaurant area (only place I've ever seen that allowed in the Philippines). Would I recommend this resort to friends and family? I think you already know the answer to that question. 😊

This is the kind of place where you bring a book and enjoy the serenity of the hotel. You won't find any tv's here, which I find to be a good thing. The food was excellent with lots of choices and there are plenty of fresh drinks to choose from. I would not recommend this place to a family with small children though. The pool is quite deep and the whole place feels more like a place where you go to relax. The beach isn't the nicest either, they keep it clean below the hotel but if you want to go swimming in the ocean you have to walk far.

The attention to detail is seen all through the resort. The owners take great pride in making sure every aspect of your visit is surpassed. The views and ambience is impossible to beat. I have traveled extensively for decades and this resort is definitely one of the best I have been to.

Tranquil and relaxing place with select rooms overlooking the sea or the garden. Have a dip in the infinity pool, with the best view either during morning sun, or at sunset, preferably with your choices of international beers, wines, cocktails, or my all-time favorite cucumber or mango shake. Must try is the onsite restaurant, which has a wide selection of international dishes, including German dishes, and Filipino favorites. There is always something new to try and savor. You can either just chill on the beach, kayak along the coast, snorkel and swim with the turtles, or just read from the garden, while looking out at sea.

JR Residence is a hidden gem in Anda! I'm so happy I discovered this place while in town. The finest spot to be, surrounded by lush greenery and just steps away from the beach. The rooms were also spacious and comfy. I especially liked the one we booked, the Penthouse, because it had a large balcony from which we could enjoy the beautiful view of the sea. They also provide guests with good food! Super delicious “lami kaayo”. I personally met the owner, Miss Jilo, who was very friendly and generous enough to treat us to a local beer. Overall, it was a very good stay and I recommend it to those who are looking for a nice and comfortable resort in Anda.

What a beautiful place to stay. We loved it totally. Beautiful owners, beautiful staff, beautiful grounds/garden, beautiful rooms, walk down to the ocean. Spent a couple of nights here with friends. Had my birthday here, what a great start to the day. Totally recommend and will return next time in the Philippines visiting our mates.
