Self-catering accommodation. The perfect place for a week-long family gathering. 10 people can easily fit without walking on each other's feet. The kitchen is large and well equipped, cupboards a-plenty, the TV room is well stocked with books, games and all you need for a good-time family evening, and the large rooms (en suite) are all extremely comfortable. The south-facing terrace is more than decently sized, and ideally placed. At the back guests can enjoy watching hens, goats and horses, and the swimming pool and the jacuzzi make for a great addition for family fun. The house is well located in a very quiet place, within driving distance of shops and of the town centre, and within reaching distance of all that can be visited in the area: Lourdes itself (including castle and Pic du Jer), the Betharram caves, the Pic du Midi and more. The owner is also very nice to deal with, stocked the kitchen with fresh eggs (from her own hens, behind the house) and would not hesitate to bring in more linen or anything else that might be required.…
The property is rather extensive, more a ranch than just land, right on the edge of the city limits. Breakfast is very good. The host is very accommodating. I recommend the first floor room off the pool as you have no stairs. The room is large and clean and the bathrooms are large and nicely appointed. We look forward to returning when able.
The facility is large and includes horses, a dog, and a cat, and there are usually some chickens. Our room was large and private. It is laudatory that Domaine is outfitted for persons with handicaps. However, that meant that the shower could not be enclosed and the water made the flood quite slippery. The breakfast was made-to-order, including home made jams and yogourt. One could not ask for a better hostess than Merete. She was hellbent on making sure we had a good holiday. She spent a lot of time suggesting beautiful places to go and giving us directions. The outdoor Arras had not yet been cleaned for guests.
This review should be read in conjunction with our previous reviews dated 27 Oct 2012 and 29 Oct 2013. Merete and Jean Jacques continue to improve this wonderful place. The swimming pool is now installed and a well designed breakfast/dining room with wonderful views is now completed. Standards of course are as ever... of the very highest levels. This is by far our preferred location if ever we are in the Lourdes area and has become the benchmark on how we rate small hotel and B&B accommodation wherever we travel at home or abroad. Without reservation, we highly recommend Domaine de Merete. Michael and May Gannon, Newbridge, Co Kildare, Ireland.
I will be using Domaine De Merete as the benchmark for every B and B I visit now. Absolutley excellent and nothing to fault. Great breakfast with home made goodies. Merete and Jean are stars in the business. We were given the best advice on what to see around Lourdes and we're lucky enough to participate in the Marion Torchlight Procession. I wished I had more time to stay longer. We have been to numerous b and bs around the world and this is by far the best in Europe. It's a shame more are not like this. Tonight my room at Bordeaux Smells of sewerage.
Our stay at Domaine de Merete was nothing short of perfect. The home was lovely and cozy, our hosts Merete and Jean Jacques were friendly and extremely accommodating, and the location was comfortably outside of Lourdes and the best launching point for a trip into the Pyrenees. As a young couple, we were unsure of what to expect. However, we loved the company. The breakfast was delicious as well. Thank you for a great time!
We stayed for two nights while visiting Lourdes. Without question this would be my overwhelming choice over the touristy type of facilities that surround and are apart of the town. Merete provided us with local informational hints as to where to park for free that was close by with easy access to the shrine. The highlights were her superb breakfasts with everything home made. We opted to have dinner there and it rivaled any fine restaurant in Lourdes. Domaine de Merete is a outstanding and memorable B and B.
This is my second solo trip to Lourdes in 2 years, and I chose Domaine de Merete for a different experience from the large, impersonal hotels located near the shrine. I could not have chosen a better place! I booked for 4 nights, and although the Amber room was not available for all of the nights, Merete accommodated me by putting me up in the Chalet for 2 of those nights. I was so grateful to her for doing that instead of turning me away. That is one of many examples of the graciousness of Merete and her husband Jean Jacques. They will do so much to ensure their guests are comfortable and well looked after! I was met at the train station as well as driven anywhere I wanted to go and be picked up. Merete and Jean Jacques also offered to drive guests to the candlelight procession at Lourdes and pick them up afterward. I was traveling in Lourdes by myself but every evening I met people from everywhere. The map on the dining room wall attests to the fact that Domaine de Merete has hosted people from all corners of the globe. The evening meals are must! The quality of the food is superb and prepared exclusively by Jean Jacques. He cares about quality of the ingredients, many of which come from neighboring farms or his own. The Lourdes shrine is a place of healing and I believe Domaine de Merete is very restorative as well with its fresh air, flowers, horses and natural beauty. For sore and aching muscles there's also a zen massage studio and jacuzzi spa. Here I felt like I was staying with family and friends! I have wonderful memories of my stay here and I look forward to my next stay at Domaine de Merete!…
This was a return visit for both myself and my husband. We love Lourdes and have found among the hustle and bustle of towered hotels and frantic trade sellers, a haven, our Brigadoon! We were not surprisingly greeted with a smiling welcoming face of, we will now call, our friend Merete. Jean Jaques was not too far behind her also greeting us with open arms. Our stay was, at least to say, relaxing, homely and comforting as we knew we could ask Merete and Jean Jaques for anything. We had been in Domain de Merete in May 2013. The weather was not very agreeable then but we always knew we had a warm and safe place to come back to from our time at the Grotto and surrounding areas of the village of Lourdes. This year was, as i would have remembered from years back, glorious and so was the weather. We will always think of our Brigadoon when we talk about Lourdes the Village to which we will return God willing. Thank you again Jean Jaques and Merete. Marian & Kevin McCormack, Ireland…
we stayed with Merete & Jean- Jacque earlier this week. It was the best experience of our travels. It was home from home. M& J-J couldn't have been more accommodating from the warm welcome we received to the home cooked dinner and the wonderful breakfast of home made jams & yogurts etc. This is a must for anyone travelling to this area who wants something a little different to the normal standard hotel.
