Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Generator Paris garners mixed reviews, with its vibrant atmosphere and trendy decor often being lauded by guests, alongside its prime location that offers easy access to transportation and shops. However, concerns are raised about cleanliness, particularly in bathrooms and shared spaces.
The lively social scene is a hit, although the pulsing music may not be everyone's cup of tea. While some praise the service and view the rooms positively, others are disappointed by maintenance issues, noise, and additional fees for basic amenities, which many find do not provide good value.

My first time to travel to a hostel and alone, so I was a little bit sceptical first how to share with strangers. If you’re happen to be in the same shoes I can reassure you that I have had an amazing time, my roommates were very friendly and from around the globe, sleeping was guaranteed at night and also I enjoyed socialising with them in the room and in the communal areas too.
Talking of which: on the ground floor there’s a bar where in the morning you’ll have breakfast, during the day it’s a good spot to have a drink and a banter, at night it turns into an entertainment area with drinks, karaoke, ping-pong, beer pong, table football and many more. There’re are lockers too (in case you have very high value belongings that you want to keep away from sight), laundry too on the first floor, a rooftop bar that is open from 6-10PM and it’s very scenic and picturesque.
The hostel is half an hour away from Montmartre, a light walk away from a spectacular natural park too that is suitable for romantic getaways or just to relax. Very good public transport from here to Gare du Nord train station and to the city centre too.
You can rent towel for your stay, there’s free Wi-Fi so you never have to worry about your data allowances.
Personally I shared a room with another 7, each beds have charging ports (connector and USB) and a light, when taking the room a fresh and clean sheet and beddings is waiting and the rooms are being cleaned daily.
Bring your own locker if you have one, or buy one from the vendor machine front of the reception. There are number of fastfood restaurants and shops nearby and you are always welcome to eat them in the bar area.
I loved staying here and I definitely look forward visiting other Generator locations too for my future trips.

I had a couple of days to kill in Paris, so I decided to to book a bed in a 4-bed room at the Generator. It was a good way to save some money, since I was in a hotel for a while.
The rooms are somewhat clean, and I met people instantly in my room and in the cafe/restaurant.
I'm not a big fan of the area that the Generator Paris is in (there are way cooler neighborhoods like the 11th arrondissement and Bastille), but then again, the Generator is also a 15-min walk from Gare du Nord, which is a major station that goes to both ORY and CDG. So you weigh out the pros and cons.
Overall, I had a great time and saved a lot of money before my flight, but in my opinion, just pray you don't have to share a room with a snorer — god have mercy on your soul if you do.
I usually stay here the night before a flight or a train to save some $$$

I saw this hostel as a recommendation in a youtube channel, we wanted to try another place in Paris, but it is not close to the city center as the channel said, you have to take a train to go to the centre ville (30 min at least) so if you want to stay in a hotel where you can go fast, this is not an option; it took almost one hour to go to the bus station (Bercy) ... there is no breakfast included, you have to pay 5€: 1 coffee,1 croissant, 1 apple, 1 juice in a box and if you want to leave your baggage it costs 8€ for 24h. In summary, I payed less for a better place, location and all included. But this hostel was so clean and it was available 😊

Dear Monica, Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you have had an enjoyable stay. In regard to the location, the hostel is located in the 10th district, which is a 15 minutes tube ride to the city. Next time do not hesitate to speak to the reception team as they will be delighted to give you some advice on how to get around quickly. We look forward to welcoming you back at the Generator Paris very soon, Sincerely, Margaux @GeneratorParis

The bathrooms in the rooms do not get any ventilation so they don’t smell great. Hand towels are not included in the rooms and to rent one tiny towel to shower it costs 6 euros. The rooftop is nice but has very limited hours. There is no shared kitchen like normal hostels - the Generator is more like a budget hotel.

Hi, Thank you for your feedback. In terms of the extra charges, like towels, padlocks and lockers they indeed do apply to your stay as most of the hostels. Nevertheless, you are more than welcome to bring your towel or padlock so you will not have any additional costs. Also these extra charges are listed on our website as we do not want our guests to be surprised during their stay. We hope to see you soon. Thayna Generator Paris

I felt for the very minimal comfort and lack of included amenities that this stay was hugely overpriced. For over 40 euros a night I would expect the room to be a lot cleaner and more comfortable and maybe for a towel to be included with the bed linens (6 euros for a towel rental seems absurd). Also didn't care for the "no outside food" policy, given the already high price of the stay it might be nice to have a place to microwave and comfortably eat one's own meal. Overall pretty disappointing as a hostel.

We checked into the room and here were roaches on the floor and windowsill. They said they cleaned and there were no more rooms available. The next day we returned and the bugs were there again and they invited their friends and family.
The area is also very sketchy. We had a run in with a man bleeding from his head and screaming while coming back from the metro stop across the street. Breakfast was included and we saw flies all over the cold cuts and cheeses so we ended up going to the FranPrix across the street every day after that (I don't reccomed this hostel, but I highly recommend the FranPrix across from it.)
I tried to do laundry but only one washer worked and it was in use so I ended up going to a laundromat down the street which was cheaper than their services. I also ended up with a rash on my legs from their sheets from their detergent. The beds are ridiculously uncomfortable and towards the end of our stay our toilet broke.
If you can avoid this place please do!!!

Bad service, after check in time we still had to wait for a room. We had to change rooms. Booked and payed for a room with private bathroom, there was no hot water so they told us we should rake a shower at the public bathroom… the room was still dusty and the toilet was used when we where not there.

I love Hostels because you get to meet new People. The Staff was amazing and very helpful, the Security included. I liked the adjacent Bathrooms within the 10 Bed- Bedroom I stayed at and the big storage drawers beneath the beds that were able to be locked. Sadly the pictures of the so called common rooms where better taken than what then was reality and the only option to enjoy the rooftop was once you've bought something. For the no drinks policy allowed within the property the prices for drinks at the bar where quite expensive compared to the size of them. They did look fancy though. The Bar was the only place where one could hang out, though the music was a ltiitle to loud to be able to just have relaxing conversations and also it closes at 2 o'clock. The room before that isn't as invting and comfortable to get more aquainted with other Hostel Guest. Overall for me individually it was a good choice to stay at considering it was like 30 minutes the most to get to wherever I wanted and Paris is more expensive in general than other places in the world.

I chose this hostel as it seemed nice with the facilities and ambiene and the price which is suitable for a
solo traveller in Paris. I feel there can be cheaper options to be able to afford breakfast or atleast drinking water, otherwise It does'nt have to so expensive ust because it's Paris. You guys can make it happen bring costs little bit down on things or provide offers for frequent travellers, grow your business by providing more affordable Service! For my stay I had a good time, thank you.

I stayed here for 7 days in May when I first came to Paris. I was traveling on my own and coming to Paris early on in my trip. This hostel is better designed for large groups and I saw numerous large parties (often over 50 people) checking in and out each day. It was very hard to meet people because the primary common space is the smoking room. The restaurant and bar is oddly separated into small private tables and booths. There is no kitchen, fridge, or even a hot water kettle so you have to buy every single meal, coffee, tea, etc. They also only allow you to eat outside food in the smoking room. The only event open for the public is karaoke night on Thursdays. Otherwise everything else (the club and rooftop) is closed off for private events - again its fantastic if you have a large group to rent out these spaces. I met a few really great people at this hostel, but it was clear we all had very similar experiences. Additionally, a couple of them kept getting moved every night because the hostel had been over booked and they received no compensation or upgrade in any sense.
Value wise, you pay a hefty amount for very basic amenities. The ensuite bathroom is nice enough, but with 10 people in the room you are pretty regularly using the communal bathrooms anyways. Our ensuite bathroom shower door was broken and we mentioned this with no fixes coming over the 7 days.
The neighborhood is fine enough - the location is nice to have next to the Canal and you are just steps away from a metro stop. But that's just it, you spend most of your time just getting out of the neighborhood because there are few options around in terms of bars, restaurants, clubs, etc. It's also not the safest neighborhood in the city so sometimes its a little questionable to be walking around late at night, but if you want to be out and about at night there's nothing close enough by to avoid that.
Overall, I won't stay at this specific hostel again. Luckily, I booked a different hostel for my other two weeks in Paris and I am already having a much better experience. I'm hesitant to even stay at another Generator in the future. I'm giving it 2 stars because the bar and reception staff were very kind and accommodating where they could.

No never had an issue
Hy Brooke,
I really don't know, because i used only the storage box in the room. But this is a big box under the bed, for every guest it is free. You just need a lock or you can buy it on the reception. Or if u go for just couple of days, on the nearby trainstation you can find a big storage place with boxes, onder the station and for 1 day cost about 8 euros. This is also a good second storage solution. Good secured too but always look good for your money and keep not to much by you. Have a nice trip and enjoy! Greetings from Gábor
