Because we had previously stayed in good hotels in Manchester for less money, we honestly expected more from Pendulum.
When we arrived, we were not immediately enthusiastic: the hotel has the appearance of a mortuary in Bordeaux red.
Even inside the hotel, it looked anything but cozy. There was nothing on the wall, except a hairdryer, unfortunately no Dyson Airwrap. In terms of atmosphere, it was somewhere between a youth hostel and the Kruidvat canteen.
The staff was friendly and the room was very spacious and coffee or tea could be made!
As my mother always says: as long as it's neat. Well that's it. Point.
The decor was very sober and done by someone whose favorite color was beige.
Initially we were afraid that the mattresses would provide a bad night's sleep, but that was certainly not the case.
The bathroom was also fine but boring. The toilet flushed very poorly! Grandma couldn't send her brown submarine into the sewer with all her muscle power.
What also bothered me was that the shower gel (with a cheap action air) was in a pump loose on the edge of the bath and was therefore splashed into the bath at least four times, including once on my big toe. Would like a soap dispenser on the wall!
The bath towels to dry off with were great: fresh and so big that even Peter Beense could hide in them.
A socket next to the bed to charge your phone would have been very nice too! On the other hand, it does limit your screen time before bedtime.
In principle there is little to really complain about in this hotel, but for 140 euros per night you expect a little more, for example breakfast!

On arrival, we asked if our room was ready as we used the online check in the night previous and had the option to put in your estimated time of arrival, the room was ready however staff were looking for £60 extra to allow us to check in early. I understand this is more then likely policy however I could not understand, if the room is ready why we cannot use it, it would never happen here in hotels I found it strange. However, the lady on reception offered to put our bags in hold so we could head out for a few hours.
Check in was no issue, we got the double room, was fine and spacious. The hallways and rooms are very dated, need some refreshing. Hair in the bath, holes in the door covered with some extra pieces of chipboard etc. No plugs near the bed.
But honestly, the bed was very comfortable and the bed linen was clean. Both myself and my partner commented on the fact they were probably the best hotel pillows we've ever experienced.
Weather was quite hot too while we stayed and there was a fan available in the room which is always welcome.
We spent a good deal of time in the garden bar, we sat outside and it was comfortable, clean and adequate. Not a great range of drink options at the bar, but you would find something to suit you.
We ate the first night at the bar, and it was utter confusion. I have to say the female staff member was lovely, and she was trying her best, I'm unsure was she new or wasn't aware of the menu, but ordering the food was quite difficult and was a struggle. However we got there in the end. We stayed 2 nights and paid a hefty enough price because Coldplay were playing the Etihad so price was to be expected but was definitely expensive for the hotel. On the second night, we went down for drinks before the concert and sat in the same place and the tables had not been cleaned. Also the next day before heading to the airport in the evening we chilled out in the garden bar at the same table again and it still had rice from two nights previous.
On check out, the male at reception was extremely nice, again offered to mind our bags etc.
To take away from it, location is fine, about 10-15 min walk into the main shopping area of Manchester. Took about 35 minutes to walk back from the Etihad. There are plenty of bars and restaurants closer and plenty of options on Uber eats etc. It's a grand place to put the head down at night and have a couple drinks in the evening but I wouldn't be hoping for much more then that. And it's definitely not for people with high cleaning standards. All in all, it did the job. But I don't think I would book again.

Dear 'aishlingo881', Thank you for your detailed review of your stay with us. We do offer an earlier check in which is £10 per hour before our standard check in time of 2pm. As mentioned, we are very happy to store luggage at the hotel until then if you would rather go and explore the City. I'm pleased you found our location to be good and our receptionist friendly. I will feedback your comments to our wider team so we can look to make improvements for the future. Kindest regards Simon

Sue has been exceptional at accommodating our requests during an event. We would have been in a difficult situation without her help. The whole event area was kept clean throughout the day, especially after food is served.. Thank you so much Sue.

I was really dissatisfied with my experience staying at the Pendulum Hotel for business on the 22/23rd November 2023.
Upon arrival the receptionist was very unwelcoming, didn't engage in small talk (even when prompted by me) just shoved a piece of paper and keycard over the desk and told me my room number. No direction to lift or stairs, no mention of breakfast (times, location). So all in all not a good start.
Eventually found a lift which was very small. When it arrived there was a staff member in it already with a small trolly (but enough room for me to get in). I asked if I could get in with them and got no reply and they made no move to make this possible. I then just said I would wait for the next available lift and again got no response. Very rude.
On the way to the room the décor was very tired - I am unsure when the skirting boards were last painted but it seemed some time ago?
The room was small but adequate and it was clean and tidy. Again it was very tired and needed an upgrade (or just some paint).
The bathroom was fine and the shower had a good solid door which was appreciated after some rooms with flimsy curtains.
The water ran very slow and took a long time to revert from hot to cold - which is a new one on me!
The sink plug didn't work and wouldn't retain water in the bowl which made shaving more challenging than it needed to be.
The room location was quiet as requested but a lot of bright light from the hallway shone under the door all night illuminating the room.
I had paid for breakfast beforehand and upon arrival was approached by a staff member to check my details. I was then allowed into the dining area but not asked if I had eaten here before to check if I knew where items were.
There was no fresh items available from the hot pots apart from one hash brown and some dried beans. Food did arrive some time later and the sausages were nice but the rest was not really very good. Eggs were only available fried and these were very unappetising when they actually arrived.
Juices came from a dispenser - like I would expect in a Pizza Hut. Fruit juices should always be in a jug!!
There were no Weetabix available (something I have for my breakfast and is available at all other hotels I have stayed at) but a selection of other cereals, fruits and pastries were.
When I checked out I was not asked if i had any comments or even if I had enjoyed my stay. Needless to say I didn't, I wouldn't recommend it and defiantly wont be staying again.
* Just a note regarding parking. Parking is close by in a multi story car park. It is a very old car park with very small spaces and large concrete pillars covered in graffiti. Not inviting and hardly any space between cars. Not the hotels fault but certainly far from ideal.

The hotel was clean and had a nice floral scent throughout. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was plenty of tea/coffee sachets in the room and the breakfast was fresh and varied for the price. Would definitely stay again.

I attended the Retina UK conference and found the facilities and rooms we used were clean, well lit, spacious and perfect for the event.
The staff however - amazing! Sue could not have looked after us more - she was cheerful and efficient and went over and above to ensure we had everything we needed. An absolute diamond.
Isaac was also brilliant and even though he was extremely busy, rushed around to find missing keys and anything we needed.
Our experience would have been good - but the staff made it great (including taking into account the majority of delegates were visually impaired and had guide dogs, and therefore ensuring the routine hotel fire alarm took only 2 seconds as opposed to the usual 10 seconds so as not to scare anybody).

Honestly so pleasantly surprised! The hotel was warm, clean and comfortable. The bedrooms are very spacious, beds firm but comfy. The staff are lovely, and it’s nice not to be ripped off! The bottles of water from reception are only £1 each! In most places you’d be paying £3. The breakfast buffet was probably one of the best I’ve had, fresh and good quality sausages for example. The pastries had clearly been cooked just before they were put out and were so fresh. Totally impressed, I confess I wasn’t expecting much as it’s a cheap hotel but wow it’s blown me away. We’ll absolutely be back. Great for Piccadilly/Canal street too!

Some good some bad in room 414
Bedroom lovely and clean plenty of towels which was just as well because we had to roll some up to put in the windows to stop the draught. We were also provided with a heater. Plenty of hot water good hospitality tray and a free drink at the bar if you don't want housekeeping. However he evening meal in the bar left a lot to be desired. My friend had the fish cake which came in a bowl of hollandaise sauce and had to ask for the chips. I had the tuna nicoise which had cold broccoli which was a first for me. Soggy lettuce a tomato and inedible tuna. I can't confirm but I think it might have been defrosted in the microwave and thrown on the grill. And we didn't complain because the young man behind the bar was rushed off his feet and looked as if he was training another young man. Breakfast however was a plentiful fayre I asked for a poached egg which was great. And we met the lovely Sue, a waitress who we had 2 lovely friendly chats with at breakfast. She is definitely a keeper.

I stayed in this hotel for work purposes in June 2024. Because I had to book hotel accommodation at the last minute this hotel was one of the only ones within my budget and in a suitable location. Despite this being a budget hotel, the hotel staff were really nice and helpful, and the breakfast easily as good as the supposedly higher quality hotels I usually stay at. While my room was small it was comfortable enough and what I really liked was that I could open the window (which opened onto a courtyard) and was able to sleep with the small top window open. This led to me having a far more comfortable night's sleep than I usually have in more upmarket hotels with their unopenable (a word I just made up) windows and A/Cs going all night.

I stayed here 5 nights. Clean (important), comfortable and functional single room. Bathroom a little small but because it is occupied by a spacious and large shower (that's fine!). Large desk, an excellent support point. Maybe I would improve the wardrobe, at least with a few more shelves. In general I would say that everything is promoted!
The location is relatively central, just a few minutes from Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Oxford Road stations which make connections to the airport and beyond easy. Friendly, helpful and quick check-in staff.
Surrounding area quiet and convenient for those traveling on foot. Hotel I recommend!
