Stayed over with friends for peter kay. Staff friendly and polite, bed was comfy. Apparently we stayed in an upgraded room ( lacked stlye and carpet was looking fairly warn. Could not open windows( they said it was due to it being a grade 2 listed building ) not sure why that would stop the windows being opened? Breakfast was a big let down, tasteless sausages, and undercooked. Cold tea and coffee due to hot water being stored in flasks. This hotel would benefit from having windows that open and maybe some form of glazing added on the inside to stop the noise. ( it is right next door to a night club) it would benefit from a hot drinks machine, also cooked breakfast made to order, even if it adds to the cost.
Sleepless night due to the noise, i personally would not stay again at £206 a room per night.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
This city centre hotel is situated in the heart of the city next to the ‘Gay Village’. The hotel is a bit battered and dated. The rooms need a bit of a refresher, but they are clean and offer the basics. There are some nice touches like robes and slippers and tea and coffee making facilities. If you are looking for a city centre location and are not too bothered about the fancy thing offered in a 5-star hotel then this is a good one- or two-night stay place.
An early check in costs £10 plus the £1 Manchester visitor’s fee.
The staff were pleasant and friendly.
A couple of things that irritate - we had the toilet running constantly. We reported this but it wasn’t fixed. Closing the bathroom door didn’t help much. The bedside light didn’t work. Perhaps a mark of a lack of maintenance the hotel needs to address. The old sash windows are secondary glazed, but this is not enough to keep the noise of the night-time ravels out, the price you pay for the city location. The view from our window looked onto an adjacent building but the windows were so dirty you could hardly see out.
Breakfast was typical budget hotel style the hot food was just only warm. Plenty of choice so you will find something.
Overall, a clean well located hotel, but nothing fancy.

We paid a premium for a deluxe room due to attending an event and prices throughout Manchester had peaked.
My husband made the booking and in the comments requested a quiet room away from the lift - what did we get? A room right next to the lift!
We went back down to reception to advise we weren't happy and were requested to wait whilst other guests were checked in. The gentleman advised our request had not been passed on to the hotel reception but offered us an alternate room promising it would be quiet.
The room was smaller than the first room.
Whilst getting ready to go out for the evening the toilet would not flush and started to back up. This had to be reported to reception on our way out. The toilet did get fixed whilst we were out.
The room was not quiet with poor window glazing meaning we could hear everything going on outside throughout the night keeping us awake ( we have stayed in Manchester at various other hotels so are aware it is a vibrant, busy place but have never been disturbed). The bed was rock hard and the pillows provided were flat. Bedding was ripped.
Breakfast was a joke! We had to find our own table, ask for it to be cleaned and then get our own cutlery. Breakfast was greasy and they ran out of a few items.
Would we stay again? Absolutely not! There are far nicer hotels to stay in including the one next door.
Save your money and book elsewhere.

Dear Louisee106, Thank you for taking the time to leave review and I am saddened to read you wouldn't stay again. Although your request was not pulled through to our system, our team tried their best to rectify the request and any other issues highlighted during your stay. As a city center hotel and a grade 2 listed building we are unable to make any changes to our outer building to combat any outside noise unfortunately. We thank you for your feedback, this will be passed through our wider team. Katy - Front Office Manager.

After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor about how quiet the rooms were and that previous issues with room cleanliness had been resolved, I decided to book 2 nights mid-week in the Townhouse Hotel for business. After a long train journey I arrived at the hotel feeling very tired and looking forward to a good night's sleep, which I shared with the girl on reception. She said that she would put me in one of their quiet rooms on the top floor and wished me a good night's rest. I went to my room and was looking forward to getting some sleep, as I had a full day's training with my company on the following day. Unfortunately, as the night drew on, I was aware that the windows were extremely thin and I was subjected to shouting, sirens, traffic noise and the sound of noisy bars across the way. I got no sleep until 5 am in the morning and had to go to my training feeling extremely tired and unable to concentrate.
There wasn't a 'do not disturb' label in the room, so I was aware on my return that the cleaning staff had been in and had removed the wet towel and made up the bed. I then attempted to get another night's sleep, as I was exhausted and had to travel home the next day. I had another night of noise, including, at one point, the sound of fireworks being set off. I woke up early the next day and starting getting my things packed up. As I spread up the bed I noticed a mark on the duvet. Pulling back the sheets I was horrified to find that the duvet was covered in dried-in stains, that resembled blood droplets. I could not believe that after the cleaning staff had been in the day before, and had made up the bed, that this was remotely acceptable for a 4 star hotel.
I took photos of the bed, as I wanted to make sure that anyone booking this hotel would be aware of the lack of cleanliness and the fact that they have still not resolved the issues with the cleaning staff, as assured after a previous review. When I checked-out, I spoke with the man on reception and told him just how disgusted I was at the lack of cleanliness, and that 'I wouldn't let my dog sleep on a duvet like that'. His response was to wish me a safe trip home and to exhibit a general lack of interest in my complaints.
Overall, I would not recommend that anyone stays at the Townhouse Hotel in Manchester, and to book alternative accommodation that is both clean, professional and quiet.

Hi Debbie, thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. We are lucky enough and very proud to be in the heart of a busy and vibrant city centre. With all of these wonderful perks in terms of location, sometimes that does come with a little external noise. I appreciate your comment regarding the no duvet, we have been trialing a new approach to bedding called "Triple Sheeting" needless to say we have no stopped this and returned to the more traditional approach. The feedback provided is so valuable and appreciated in order to support our future improvement however there are no excuses for some of these errors and for that I am truly embarrassed. Please do contact me directly at the Townhouse if you would like to discuss the stay personally. Best wishes, Paul.

Well…arrived at the hotel due to a 19 person sport package deal with sports breaks. Our party was 16 x 16 year old and 3 adult supervisors. Due to the age of the party adults via kids we were very specific about the combination of twin v double rooms. This was stipulated months previously and both I and sports breaks went to great lengths to confirm and reconfirm in writing and verbally with the hotel. However on arrival around 5pm following a 7 hour drive we were informed by reception that there were only double rooms left and absolutely no ability to change. We spend the next hour speaking to sports break and the hotel and no budging. We basically had to pair males up in double bed and one key adult in the party was forced to seek alternative accommodation in Manchester City Centre. The reception assisted but ended up sending our person to the wrong location. So no rooms available to change as fully booked and allocated. However later that evening one of our rooms have water running out of a light fitting and miraculously another room appeared for our guys to move to! General comment on staff, some seem Knowledgeable and helpful others the polar opposite. Breakfast was reasonable, location good, and the seating areas within the hotel we’re comfortable.

We arrived and were ignored, there was no one else in reception other than 2 staff and us, but we weren’t acknowledged for over a minute, it was very rude of them to not even say hello I’ll be with you in a moment, I had to say excuse me for them to lift their heads from their computers.
We were given a room next to the lift. When we went in, it had adjoining doors to the room next door. I know we can lock them but there is a noise issue. Also, there was no coffee machine in the room. I pointed this out and she said non of the rooms have coffee machines, yet they still advertise them! I went back to reception and said we’d like a different room. She firstly said had we touched anything..? Then proceeded to say if we didn’t want adjoining rooms with a stranger, we should have said in the booking. I am cabin crew so stay in hotels all the time. I have never heard of having to specify I DIDNT want adjoining rooms. She then said it’d take a long time to get another room ready. It was 3:45 by this point and we had dinner reservations at 5 and wanted to freshen up. We were given the new room at 4:30 - we waited in the bar and then to again approach the receptionist to see if the room was ready. We were told we could have a complimentary coffee, this was not passed on to the bar staff who tried to charge us.
After a sleepless night as the windows in the room we eventually moved to weren’t fit for blocking any noise out, we went down for breakfast. 10 minutes we were stood waiting to be seated. My friend went around the coroner to see if there were any staff, she found a gentleman who was very abrupt and seemed harassed, he said ‘will you give me a minute…PLEASE!’ So rude. There was no food available, no plates, we were brought coffee cups but had to ask twice for coffee. The food came out in dribs and drabs to the buffet station so it involved numerous trips or having cold food while waiting for the rest of the breakfast.
We were both so disappointed by the hotel as the pictures online look amazing and it does look like a high class hotel. It couldn’t be further from the truth. The staff we encountered were very rude and dismissive and frankly shouldn’t be working in hospitality.

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel twice in September. Each time we have been lucky to have our room upgraded. The rooms have been clean, have tea/coffee facilities, lovely bathroom, tv etc and are spacious. Despite being in a busy area the rooms have been so quiet with no traffic noise. The beds are extremely comfortable. Breakfast is paid as a supplement which has what you would expect in terms of hot and cold foods. Reception staff have been really friendly and helpful especially Jain. The hotel is 10minutes walk from Arndale shopping centre. Would definately recommend this hotel.

I stayed at this hotel recently. Had it booked for 2 weeks separate bookings as I was travelling back home for the weekend safe to say the second week has been cancelled. When checking into the hotel the receptionist seemed nice enough. I went to my room on the fifth floor to see the loft door was open. When advising the reception of this there was no care in the world and said it was okay as it was. I am a young girl travelling myself so this alone did not make me feel the safest straight away as they advised it was fine. I went for dinner and went back to the room when sitting and feeling very unsettled I called reception to come and close this which they did after already speaking to them prior. I have been in there 3 nights and slept for not even a few hours in those 3 days as you can hear absolutely everything all the noise from the outside. You can hear every movement from the halls and the lifts in the hotel ( which were no where near my room). I have stayed in many hotels over travelling for work and also leisure and I can hands down say this was the worst stay of my entire life and the most uncomfortable stay. The bed in the room actually had a full body indent on the right hand side which you would sink into if you even went onto that side of the bed.

Dear Lauren, Thank you for taking time to provide us with feedback on your recent experiences at the hotel. Please accept my sincerest apology for not meeting your expectations and are short comings. We have investigated the service hatch in your room being left open and found maintenance had carried out work in your room prior to your arrival that day. They had not replace the hatch back in position after access the light fittings in the space above for that room only.During your stay when this was highlighted our team advised that maintenance will not be in until the morning however we can try to get one of the team to close it for you of which you replied you were happy to wait until the morning. When you then later approached reception about having someone close it for you, a team member was straight up and resolved it right there and then. We have also inspected your bed and can't find anything wrong with the item, you mentioned above, as we take guest sleep very seriously. We are sorry that you will not be returning to us in the near future. Kind Regards, Chris Thomson | General Manager

Just on way home after staying at this hotel for 2 nights . Although the hotel is in a very good location and comfortable beds that’s where it ends. The owners and management of this hotel need be trained on good customer service .. they are so rude and do care about any issues u may have ! The way they speak to their customers leaves a lot to be desired .
The breakfasts are lukewarm, there is no shampoo nor conditioner in the rooms , they forgot to service our room so had to call reception for fresh towels and toilet rolls . the selection of teas / coffees in the room very basic.
The bathrooms looks nice , however the water from the shower leaks all over the floor and u have to clean up the flood every time u use it.
And they wanted to charge us £10 for asking for a noon checkout instead of 11am.
i have been going to Manchester for many years and this is no doubt the worst hotel i have ever stayed in !
There are many other hotels in Manchester for the same price which offer a lot more with friendly staff at least .. don’t stay here !

Hi Scotsbro, Thanks for your review and for your feedback. We are very grateful for it as we use it to help improve our services going forward. We are sorry to hear that the team weren't up to expectations, this is a shock to us as we normally get a lot of great reviews about our team! Our customer service is something we pride ourselves on so this is upsetting to hear. We have a 2 in 1 hair and body wash in all our bathrooms to try to help the impact of 1 time usage products. We will take your feedback about the shower leaking on board and make sure to get our maintenance manager to check it and fix it if needed. Our normal check out is 11am and then we charge a £10 late check out fee for any time up to 1pm. Once again, I am sorry that we did not meet expectations and to hear that you will not be returning. If you ever do return to Manchester, please keep us in mind so that we can make the next visit a better one. Natasha - Operations Manager
