Stayed here for one night recently to attend an event close by. The location is excellent, just a few minutes walk from St.Peters square where you can get the tram to and from the airport. The hotel is lovely, nice reception and nice relaxing bar with comfy couches etc. We had sandwiches and coffee and it was really good. The guy in the bar was a little unfriendly though.
Melanie at reception was great, very polite and helpful.
The room was large with a very comfortable and ginormous bed. Nice bathroom with separate shower.
My only niggles are that you can’t open the window so the room was unbearably stuffy and there’s no Nespresso machine.
Also breakfast was sent up with no toast which is unusual and no condiments.
Other than that, it was a lovely stay and I would stay there again.

Even though I spent 48 hours with my mum I still rate my stay as brilliant.
This hotel is 10 mins walk to Manchester Piccadilly in one direction and 10 mins walk to the shops (and currently the Christmas Market) the other.
All members of staff were welcoming and helpful. I had pre booked sparkling afternoon tea for our day of arrival and despite me thinking there wasn't a lot it was surprisingly fulfilling.
Breakfast was top quality ingredients, very tasty.
The room was certainly big enough, plenty of hangers in the wardrobe, tea/coffee etc replenished. Separate bath and shower.

Was looking forward to this hotel as I’ve stayed in the fabulous Gotham not far away so expectations were high. A few pointers from our stay.

Pros: easy hotel to find, close to all amenities, helpful staff, car parking relatively easy to find, pleasant decor.

Cons: our first room was awful (316) so asked to change; mould around the bath/shower, plaster on walls peeling off, hole in the wall near the TV, dirty pillows and carpet. Second room (204) loads better but very cold, and paint flaking off over the shower. The faucet in the sink also needs minor repairs as well. Issues seem unacceptable for a £180 price point in a 4* hotel!
Also, breakfast disappointing; I just ordered beans on toast and had to share my partner’s as I must have been served no more than a spoonful of beans in a ramekin, also no butter and poor continental selection.

Would not have an issue if we’d have paid £50 as we stayed in a Premier Inn the night before in Bury and for that price we had a much less stressful experience and better standard of room and breakfast. Just a shame the finer details have been overlooked. I’d recommend the Gotham over this hotel if you can get in.

This was probably our third or fourth visit to The Townhouse Hotel for afternoon tea. The service has definitely gone a little downhill from what it was a few years ago, but on the whole it's usually a pleasant afternoon out.

We visited on Valentine's day and the restaurant area was just under half full. My major issue was with how all the diners were seated. It obviously makes it easier for the staff to have everyone sat in a group together but it doesn't make for a very pleasant dinning experience for the customer. We were all sat at tables for two along the back wall of the restaurant, literally inches from the next table. It was absolutely impossible to have a conversation without being overheard by the next table and vice versa. They might as well have just sat all eight of us on one table to chat amongst ourselves! Another annoyance was the noise from the kitchen. For some reason the door to the kitchen had been wedged open, therefore all the chatter and shouting from the kitchen could clearly be heard.

When the food arrived, my dietary requirements had been taken in to account, however there wasn't an explanation as to what the sandwich selection was. We had to ask for our tea as no one bothered serving it to us. We weren't asked if required a tea top up, which is normal when having afternoon tea, nor we asked if we had enjoyed our food. I can't comment on the cakes or the scones as I can not eat egg and unfortunately the Townhouse do not offer vegan options.

An acknowledgement that this was Valentine's Day might have been nice, a red rose on the table, flowers on the bar, instead the restaurant was void of any real atmosphere for the occasion. We finished our drinks in the bar area, which was deserted apart from what appeared to be a staff member having an appraisal meeting. Seriously, you must have office space or conference rooms where this sort of meeting can take place. It really looks unprofessional and unfair on the young staff member being appraised.

Having been for numerous afternoon teas, this one is about average for service and food. I feel the staff need to take a step back and look at things from a customer point of view, this should enable them to offer the service worthy of a four star hotel.

Dear NS57, First we would like to thank you for your feedback and visit to our restaurant on Valentines Day. Our guest experience is on the heart of what we do and we would appreciate some more details about your visit so we could investigate further. Valentines day was a very busy day for us and we’re very disappointed to read your less positive experience during your visit and the lack of atmosphere, we have chosen to give our guests the opportunity to use their discounted vouchers on a premium day instead of charging a premium for it. As part of our standards we ask for any dietaries requirements when we take the booking and when we host the guest and we are glad to see your dietaries requirements been met, however we would have to investigate further the egg situation as we do cater for vegans. Equality part of our standards we do offer the tea and coffee as soon as the guest is seated, we explain the different items on the afternoon tea, we do a check back and we offer top ups for the hot drinks. We would be much appreciated if you could contact us on fb.manager@townhousemanchester.com to allow us to investigate this matter further with the staff involved as we are about to carry out our team members appraisals as usual on the comfort and privacy offered by our conference rooms. Kind Regards, Debbie Front Of House Manager

We came and stayed for valentines weekend, at first we had a problem with our door not locking but a quick phone call to reception and they came straight up and fixed it without any fuss.
The staff was super friendly and even gave us directions on where we was visiting.
The hotel is also in a great location, not too far from Piccadilly train station, arndale shopping centre and loads of nice bars/restaurants nearby which are all walkable distance.
The room we got was very clean and nice, they also upgraded us free of charge to an executive king room which was lovely. It had a big bathroom and huge space.
We was on floor three and didn't have any problems with noise (which I was worried about because of other reviews). The only thing we wouldn't recommend is the breakfast. We ordered 2 to be delivered to our room which cost £36, it was very small but it tastes lovely!
Overall our stay was amazing and when we come to Manchester again, we will be staying here because of the friendly staff, great room & amazing location 😊
Thank you for all your help with our stay, see you soon.

This is a lovely hotel in a good central location in Manchester. Very friendly and welcoming staff, generally clean room and all modern conveniences.

We stayed in a corner room (Double) which was very large and with very large windows overlooking the city.

The room was equipped with a hair dryer, flat screen TV, and a comfortable bed.

The bathroom was nice, clean, and well presented albeit showing some minor signs of wear and tear which is to be expected such as flaking of paint near the shower head.

Hotel provided shower gel/hand wash and fresh and clean towels with heated towel rail.

Breakfast was a good selection of cooked/continental and was well managed by staff.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a suite room, hotel is centrally located and easy to find, very expensive npc car park right opposite £27 for 24hours (hotel does offer a small discount towards this but it’s still very expensive)
Hotel is an old townhouse style building, inside it is clean and relatively modern.
Reception staff were polite and friendly, our suite was over £120 a night which in my was not worth it comparing it to others we have stayed nearby, the suite had a small lounge which was nice overlooking the street below, our bedroom however had no window which was very disorienting, they had a fake window curtain with an LED strip to simulate a window but I would of preferred a room with a real window, the bathroom was big and had a walk in shower and a lovely big bath, the suite did feel a little bit tired but overall was decent. The breakfast the first morning was table Sevice, we received very small portion, 1 sausage, bacon etc the 2nd morning it was a buffet style which was much better, decent selection that was replenished quickly.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t stay here again, I felt that the cost was too high compared to other similar places nearby.

We booked this hotel as the chain I usually stay with wasn't available. After a minor issue with the room when we arrived (which was quickly addressed and beyond our expectations, too) we enjoyed a lovely stay and have to give a special mention to the friendly staff who really make you feel welcome and at home from home. The place is super central and you get a 25% parking discount for a secure multi storey car park across the road, which we used to leave the car there during our stay.

Requested a room with a bath and quiet area of hotel. Even rang the day before to confirm, on arrival the two girls on reception said our room had been allocated by the staff day before. Got to room on fifth floor ( next to the two lifts and no bath just shower). The reception staff very quickly gave us a room with a bath , in the corner , which I though with no one passing the room door would be quiet , anything but. There isn’t any secondary glazing , making the room very noisy from traffic noise. Other hotels in the area , in old buildings , do have secondary glazing . So no excuse it’s a very old building. As covid is still around , we always spray surfaces with dettol and make sure everything is wiped down. Checking the pillows, no pillow protectors and the pillows were filthy dirty, stained with sweat and dribble, one was ripped . See pictures ) The sheets were creased , which looked like they hadn’t been changed . Only lighting was two bedside lights and a table lamp. There was an upright lamp in the corner which didn’t work, I was going to try it in another plug socket, but the lamp had round pin plug , just shows the age on that ! The staff are all new and don’t know what they are doing , house keeping , after I showed them the dirty pillows, jus said “ I don’t know what to do “. I suggested the pillows were changed for clean ones , two pillows arrived to the room , again no pillow protectors , I asked to see the duty manager , the reception staff said they didn’t know his name or if he was in the hotel , this is around 3:30 in the afternoon. Apparently it was his first day as well. . This hotel is definitely not 4 star. It seems to me that there is far too much cost cutting, which leads me to think what other, unseen, things are being cut down on. Not a pleasant stay. Paul the manager did ring me, he was very pleasant and a very nice person , however he too was new only being there for three weeks. Although he has come from Imperial Blackpool, which is part of the same group as The Townhouse. I hope Paul will bring The Townhouse up to a better standard , but in the meantime I would suggest AVOID .

I booked a sparkling afternoon tea with groupon for myself and my mum in law. The booking process was extremely easy.

It was a one way system on entry to the hotel restaurant for the afternoon tea, welcomed by Ziggy who took great care of our needs during the experience. He was friendly and courteous and made us feel very special during our visit.

The food was good value and left us feeling suitably satisfied. The scones were the highlight, still warm and delicious with the accompaniments of cream and jam (cream first obviously)
My mother in law had to wrap one of her cakes to take home as she was flup.

Overall it was a lovely treat and I would recommend to the next person ESPECIALLY if ZIGGY is hosting for the afternoon.
