Had always longed to stay at the GSH & it didn't not disappoint. On this occasion it was a family wedding. From the truly warm welcome by Sean at the front door it was enjoyable stay. While the Grand Dame of Killarney hotels has all the charm of other era, the bedrooms were beautifully presented - particularly the view over the gardens and the spire of St Mary's in the distance. Our room appeared to have been refurbished. The only minor issues some of bedroom corridors need a refresh and the Full Irish breakfast could have been better, saying that my special request at wedding banquet the evening before was accommodated with no problem. A bonus was the electric charging station. Overall delighted with stay.

Excellent hotel, old charm and wonderful food and service. Nice rooms, footed bath tub and large shower too. Brownie’s Bar very charming and location is great for walking into town to shop or go to the pubs. Killarney is beautiful!!!

Does not look like video of hotel. Only once did we see a doorman open the door. The hotel's lobby is quite elegant, but our room was quite cramped--especially for a deluxe accommodation. The food was okay, although the only meal we ate at the hotel was breakfast. The front desk staff was mixed, some knowledgeable, some not as much. Not a lot of choices as to where to stay to be able to walk to town, so for that reason I might recommend, but not a great value for expense and not a grand old hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Great Southern. Our room was lovely - it had a balcony with a pretty view, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the claw tub was a perfect way to end a long day of sight seeing. We enjoyed the breakfast, the bar, and also really loved listening to the piano player in the lobby in the evening while enjoying a glass of wine. Location was perfect and very close to Killarney. Overall, lovely stay!

What a gorgeous entrance to a hotel, it’s called GRAND for a reason! We loved hearing the piano player, sitting on the beautiful couches, and smelling the lovely scent they pipe through the room. The staff are incredibly friendly, and breakfast was divine (our favorite of all the hotels we visited). With that said, the actual rooms were a little dated and could use a refresh. We stayed in a room with a queen, and two twins. The furniture was scratched, but not in a classic antique way, more in a need-to-be-replaced way. I found the bed to be lumpy, and the bathroom although large, was poorly lit. They have a beautiful make-up mirror, but with no light above the counter, it was useless. I would rate the hotel five stars, if only the room seemed a bit fresher (like the lobby!)

Great southern hotel killarney is one of the nicest hotels I have ever been in. For Easter we went on a family break away . My Mother stayed in the hotel and as family we had the most beautiful meal and magical dinning experience. John Fitzpatrick was the name of the waiter and was so professional . He slso give my self and my husband the interesting history of the hotel. Such beautiful laid tables and silver wear. We felt we were in luxury. My Mother was checked in by such a lovely receptionist by the name of Emile . She could not do enough for us. My Mother was kindly upgraded to the Juniour suite . We went up to have a look it was absolutely stunning. My Mother is still talking about it. From the luxurious hotel and outstanding staff and delicious food. Great southern hotel killarney is the nicest hotels that myself or my family have honestly ever been in. I have been to many but nothing like this hotel. When we arrived at the hotel I asked about the availability of a hot tub as I was having some pains. I was told that they couldn't get parts for the current hot tub, but a new one was on order. To my surprise I had a knock on my hotel room door. Evelyn from the Conceirge desk had gone to a pharmacy and purchased a heat pack for me. I could not believe how much this hotel staff would go out of their way to make me comfortable. Evelyn was so kind and thoughtful. We had two dinners and two breakfasts in the dining room. The food was very good. The rooms were very nice. I highly recommend this hotel. It was a highlight on my wonderful Irish holiday.

From the moment we sat down this was the most unappealing afternoon tea we have ever experienced. We were not given menus and asked “coffee or tea?” When we asked if there was a list of teas she said “If you really need to do that.” And gave us two menus for five people. And the tea was one sad tea bag with the type of tea cup and pot found in a diner. The food was underwhelming. The sandwiches were stale and the sweets tasted store bought. However the scones were excellent! Sadly we cannot recommend this tea. And as veterans of 50 or so different afternoon teas around the world we have to put this solidly in last place.

My parents are just back from a wonderful break at the Great Southern in Killarney. Perfect location in town next to the train station, close to all the shops and within a short drive to the many beautiful walks out Muckross Road. The highlight to their visit was when the team at reception organised a surprise for my Mum with a lovely desert wishing her happy birthday. The room, facilities, food and staff are all excellent.
