The International Hotel Killarney garners praise for its blend of old-world charm and modern comforts, especially noted during the festive Christmas season. Guests consistently commend the hotel's cleanliness and the staff's friendly and professional service. While its central location is a hit for those keen to explore Killarney, some guests mention the rooms can be on the smaller side and suggest booking breakfast early. The hotel is recognized for offering good value, though parking expenses and room temperatures have been points of contention for a few.

Having been to Killarney a few times for family weddings I’d seen the International Hotel a few times but not had the opportunity to stay, so when we were booking this trip I was delighted to see a good deal. We got an executive room for 2 nights B&B which we booked directly with the hotel.

The location is perfect and the location of our room meant there was no street noise so we got 2 nights great sleep. The jacuzzi bath is a lovely touch but there were some small niggles. The side of the bath in room 145 was cracked and needs some attention and there seems to be 2 standards of executive room. The ones on the website with a red colour scheme look more luxurious than the one we got so I was a little disappointed with that.

It would also be a nice touch if some of the cost of parking could be reimbursed and if there were menu cards to order breakfast to the room. I did see this on someone’s door but we didn’t have any in our room.

Other than those small things, all of the staff we interacted with were fantastic and one in particular went over and above to find us a quiet space for breakfast as we wanted to avoid the busy dining room. The hotel was spotless though and social distancing was evident without impacting the atmosphere.

We would definitely stay in the International again when visiting Killarney.

Dear NomadicGirl Thanks for your very kind review, we're pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and that found your room so comfortable and our food offerings so good, breakfast in particular- and all at a fair rate. To address your queries- we do have a number of styles of Executive room- yes- but all have the same facilities and it is mainly the colour schemes that differ. The bath in 145 was repaired today, the crack was a recent occurrence, all maintenance issues are attended to very promptly here. Regarding the room service cards you mention, unfortunately due to new guidelines we are limited in the amount of printed material we can place within our rooms, however room service cards are available at Reception for those wishing to avail of breakfast in bed. Finally just to touch on parking, we don’t have our own carpark due to our prime town centre location, but we do believe parking is reasonably priced in Killarney at around €8 for a 24 hour period in the car parks surrounding us. We’re glad however these small points did not take from the enjoyment of your time with us and hope you may have an opportunity to stay again Best regards Anne Marie Collins

We travelled as a group of 4 friends staying in two twin rooms under a package for two nights and one dinner. From the very beginning we were so impressed. The location was a very short stroll from the train station. From the staff at reception, the bar, the restaurant.. everyone was beyond friendly and helpful. The hotel was busy but you never at any point felt rushed. The dinner under our package went way beyond our expectations with no supplements on steak etc..our breakfast was freshly made.. our room was small but it was very comfortable and our window could open fully which was lovely. The housekeeping kept it spotless.. there are lots of places around the hotel to read a book but the pub has a lovely local atmosphere.. and you were minutes away from such a gorgeous walk.. I would highly recommend it and consider it one of the finest that I have ever stayed in

We had a wonderful stay at the International Hotel Killarney over the midterm break. Every staff member we encountered from the valet to the check- in ladies, the restaurant and bar staff to the cleaning staff were delightful and eager to help. They went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable. One of our group members have special dietary requirements and sometimes dining out can be tricky. The restaurant staff were so professional and friendly. They took time to go through the menus and were able to answer all our questions patiently and confidently. The food in the bar and restaurant was scrumptious.
There is a magnificent sitting room called the O’Connor Suite where you can sit and sip a cappuccino or cool glass of prosecco in lovely surroundings.
There was a nice vibe in the bar at night-time.
The bedrooms were clean, and the beds were comfortable. I asked for a change of pillow, and it was dropped to our room immediately.
The hotel is in a great location right in the heart of the town and the cinema is straight across the road. Its only a few steps away from the entrance to the beautiful killarney National Park.
We would highly recommend this great hotel and we are looking forward to our next visit, hopefully soon.

We stayed recently for belated birthday trip. I did email the hotel to let them know as when we've stayed in other places for a special trip they normally leave some small token in the room. Alas this was not the case on this occasion. Having looked at all the wonderful bedroom shots on their website we were looking forward to having an amazing room. The room is probably one of the smallest hotel rooms we have ever stayed in. I estimate there is less than 2ft clearance at each side of the bed. The bed was very comfortable but the duvet was exceptionally heavy for the time of year. The room was unbearably hot every night. We asked for a separate bed sheet as substitute for the duvet and used the very noisy free standing room fan. As our room looked on the flat roof of the rooms below which had various machinery and also looked out on the very busy main street, sleeping with the window open was not possible. We'd also like to have seen some bottled water left in the room as we'd consider that standard in a 4* hotel.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis. You could have room service breakfast for a service charge of 5e per person but as the dining room is so large and people were well spaced out we felt ok with sitting in the restaurant.
They have an outside seating area and we are our main meal there on 2 occasions. We were served by a very jovial gentleman who told us he was from Poland. He's a real credit to the hotel as nothing was too much bother for him.
The hotel is situated right in the middle of Killarney so ideal for walking around. It does not have a car park but there are lots of pay and display car parks within walking distance.
When we were checking out the lady on reception came across as going through the motions. She did not ask if we enjoyed our stay or if we experienced any issues. She simply took my card for payment without any real pleasantries.
The highlight of our stay was definitely the food. We would probably not stay again due the very small size of the rooms compared to how they are depicted on the website.

Dear Isabella, Thank you for your very comprehensive review of your recent stay. We are pleased you enjoyed some aspects of your time with us, but disappointed to read that you did not like your room selection. Without more information, we cannot be sure what room you were allocated... we have 3 categories of room, Classic, Superior & Executive which vary slightly in size and finish. Judging by your description, it would appear you were in a Classic Standard room. That said all our rooms conform to Faitle Ireland 4 Star size requirements. Also, unfortunately due to Irish Hotel Federation & Failte Ireland Covid guidelines, it is recommended that all room amenities are restricted as much as possible. This is a disappointment too to us as we enjoyed supplying the little extras but right now, we cannot do so safely. We are glad you found our food offerings so good and your served so helpful so thank you very much for your feedback on this. I understand you were left feeling disappointed with your bedroom however and really would appreciate if you might give us an opportunity to redeem ourselves should you find yourself in Killarney again. We will offer you a complimentary room upgrade to our top room category and a very competitive rate. I do hope you may take us up on this in the future, Kind regards Anne Marie Collins

Myself and my husband are frequent visitors to Killarney and always pay a visit to Hanagans Bar in the International hotel. This year we decided to book in there.

The hotel itself is beautiful especially at Christmas with the grand tree in the lobby. We booked an executive room which included a jacuzzi bath which was divine. The room was beautiful and modern and spotlessly clean.

The food in hanagans bar has never been disappointing you will go for lunch and end up staying for dinner as it is so hard to leave the open fire and baileys coffees!

Every staff member we encountered from the cleaning staff to the wait staff was willing to go over and above to make your stay special.

Every aspect of our two night stay was spectacular and we will 100% book to stay here again. The location is perfect nothing is too far away.

Just returned from Killarney having spent three nights at the International Hotel
The weekend was wet and miserable but the hotel and the staff made up for it. We arrived late afternoon and were checked into our room - we are a family of two adults and two teenagers and were delighted with the spacious room (room 101) which had two king sized bed and a large single so everyone was happy. The room was beautiful and had a lovely large bathroom.
We had booked in for meals on two of the nights and on the Saturday night we were served by a really attentive young lady (Ellen I think ) and had a really good A la Carte menu and we were spoiled for choice. We were looked after really well and had a socially distant table from the other diners. Sunday nights dinner was also excellent and again we were really well looked after by a lovely gentleman (Brendan).
COVID guidelines were well adhered to by all staff and there were plenty of sanitizers evident.
Breakfast was served in the dining room which we had to pre book so no overcrowding. We were looked after by a really nice woman called Eileen who gave us a good rundown on places to see locally.
Overall a really pleasant stay and would highly recommend. It is very central to the town and was well suited to a family like ourselves.

From the moment we arrived , we were greeted by any and all staff from reception to housekeeping. The room was very clean and comfortable, the bar was well run, no waiting times even on NYE , plenty of staff on hand to serve with a smile. The food was exceptional, cooked to perfection. The location was spot on, bang in the middle of the town, walking distance of the high street, Jaunting carts at the door if you'd like a trip to the national park etc. There is no doubt we will be back next year again.

Stayed last August (9-13th).. three adults and one newborn in one of the executive family rooms. Check-in was very pleasant and reception staff professional. The room was beautifully furnished and very large. My only small criticism being there was no natural light, not a biggie as we were out all day every day. Bathroom had jacuzzi bath and shower. Housekeeping were in attendance, however, we declined due to COVID and requested towels to be left each day. Housekeeping staff were very pleasant and accommodating.

We were lucky as the weather was beautiful in Killarney during our stay, so were able to dine outside on one of the evenings. Food was good. Staff under a lot of pressure as extremely busy.

Breakfast in this hotel is AMAZING. In all our travels, we’ve never tasted a breakfast so delicious. (Cooked to order). The dining room was also extremely busy during the morning rush, but there was a lady (sorry can’t remember her name) who overseen residents being placed at tables etc. She was incredibly lovely and extremely professional, a real credit to the hotel.

Bar staff and waiting staff were all very pleasant. The cocktails are a must.

The International has a real old Irish charm to It. It really is beautiful. We loved it so much, we are planning a trip back again this July (travel restrictions permitting!)

Stayed at this beautiful hotel for 10/11 day in April 2019. As always a great room I room with all the facilities. Beautiful breakfast restaurant with so many buffet choices. One can also order a choose of cooked breakfasts ( many choices) as well as the buffet breakfast options. The International Hotel is in a premier location, with one of the many entrances to the National Park being only 100 yards away. We will be returning to this great hotel in April 2020

Dear Teehee45 The hotel does not operate a car service from the airports, Shannon is approx a 2 hour journey and the cost for a taxi is approx €220 per trip. Alternatively to use public transport you would need to get a bus into Limerick city and then a connection to Killarney, it’s not the most straightforward I’m afraid.
