Before booking I laboured over reviews for many Dublin hotels. I nearly booked one of a couple that were within 100m of the Davenport and in seeing them once we arrived there I must say we made the right choice picking the Davenport.
After a €30 taxi ride from the airport we were dropped at the door and immediately upon entry we were greeting by Paul on the desk who very helpfully sorted our room even though we were 2 hours before the official check in time.
We were in 7410 on the 4th floor which had been very recently redecorated (you could smell the fresh paint). The room and facilities were exactly as described on the hotels website. The hotel had sent emails ahead of our arrival advising of necessary details about our stay and Paul reiterated some of this detail (eg restaurant opening times etc) before directing us to our room.
In the room was a huge tv with plenty of channels, a huge and extremely comfortable bed, a fridge, tea and coffee iron and ironing board. The two chairs look funky but could have been more comfortable (we didn’t go to Dublin for the chairs though) and a very clean fresh bathroom with a large walk in shower.
The hotel provided clean towels and refreshed the tea/coffee/milk each morning and cleaned the room to a high standard.
Paul was on duty on both the weekend days as well and helped us organise a return taxi and kept our bags safe after check out until we were ready to leave.
The hotel provided a welcome plate of chocolatey sweet stuff and a bottle of prosecco once we had checked in which was included in the booking price and although we didn’t eat in the restaurant in the evening we did have the buffet breakfast on Sunday morning. This is priced at €15 a head and our attempts to find better value outside of the hotel on Saturday cost us more and although nice was more expensive and wasn’t “all you can eat”.
The hotel is right next to Oscar Wilde’s house and the square which itself is opposite the National Gallery and Natural History Museum. The are loads of pubs and bars nearby but while busy none were rowdy. We particularly enjoyed the Ginger Man with good beer wholesome food and friendly staff.
We did try the hotel bar which had a good array of whiskey to choose from and wasn’t much different in price to local pubs.
All in all an excellent choice and I would use the hotel again.

My regular hotels during my stay in Dublin were closed for the holidays, so my friend and I decided to give the Davenport a try. Upon arrival, we noticed the beautiful Christmas tree and decor and were very impressed. The room was very nice, with modern decor and very comfortable beds. I loved staying in Marion square, as it was quiet yet very close to Grafton Street, Temple Bar, and other areas in the city center.

The reason I'm not giving a 5-star review is due to the customer service. Prior to arrival, we reached out to them months in advance, trying to make reservations for a Christmas dinner, which seems like a simple task. Not the case! Emails were not answered in a timely manner at all (in fact, they initially only responded via Facebook messenger, which seems unprofessional) and they couldn't get their communication straight. Once we were finally able to make a reservation, we couldn't get a confirmation. In fact, we received several emails prior to our arrival saying they didn't have a reservation in our name. We ended up speaking to the manager directly via phone (who was very friendly and helpful), but the next day we received another email from a different staff member saying our reservation wasn't confirmed. In addition, we tried getting the menu ahead of time, as they were charging 70 Euros per person for the dinner, and we weren't successful at this either. The menu turned out to be less than desirable and we ended up canceling the reservation (it wasn't worth the price!). When we called the front desk throughout our stay to ask simple questions, they often weren't helpful, as they didn't know the answers. For a hotel of this caliber, it is expected the staff is well informed and knowledgeable about the city it's in, so I hope this review will be taken as constructive feedback to improve customer service.

Dear Karula76, Many thanks for taking the time to share your kind review of your most recent stay with us at The Davenport Hotel. I am delighted to read that you enjoy our hotel decor and location. Please accept my apologies for any service shortfalls in our communication regarding dinner. Our Dinner menu would be that of a traditional Irish Christmas Day and I am sorry that this was not to your taste. I have since shared your feedback with the team for consideration for future improvements. Kind regards, Will Woods General Manager

Stayed here last weekend for three nights with my partner. We were told on arrival our room had been upgraded, bonus! however the room was twin beds but this was quickly rectified to a lovely king size room! The room and bathroom were very clean, modern and nicely furnished. The bed was very comfortable! We had breakfast included, it was a buffet breakfast however you can request toast or poached/fried eggs. Would definitely stay here again, Hotel is located in a nice quiet part of the city and easy walking distance to main attractions. Would also recommend the bus from the airport which is 12 euros return as it literally drops you right outside the hotel! Thanks to all the staff at the Davenport for a lovely stay!

Mostly appears very clean, clean cups/glasses and bathroom etc. However...dusty room (lots on lamp and on top of kettle), few hairs in bed and a room that faces a noisy pub with screaming banshees rolling out now and its midnight (writing this whilst I cannot sleep due to the noise - windows need some serious soundproofing to prevent disturbance).

Here for business and would absolutely not recommend the hotel to colleagues/friends at this point in the stay. I will ask to move rooms in the morning and see how that goes. But this review would stand either way. Make sure you request NOT to be on the side of the ginger something bar.

The location is pretty good/convenient but I would rather stay at the Intercontinental which, despite being a short cab ride from where I need to be, is quiet, spotless, very comfortable and provided good service throughout my last stay.

The noise here is bad. I am not a review moaner and would not usually write this however I would like to help others not suffer the same frustration and cra**y nights sleep.

Dear Claire, thank your for sharing your feedback with us. I apologize for any inconvenience caused and if the Davenport wasn't up to your standard. I do believe though, that it was not fair writing something like this without checking first with the reception. How do you think we can help you and make it right if the first thing you do it is writing on Tripadvisor?? Nevertheless the reception team contacted you the very next day, but you refused any help. "Here for business and would absolutely not recommend the hotel to colleagues/friends at this point in the stay. I will ask to move rooms in the morning and see how that goes. But this review would stand either way". You are saying that you are not a moaner, but that is not true at all. A moaner would have came down at the desk to complain right away and demand to be moved to a "cleaner" and "quieter" room. Your review was really unfair and unkind, but I still thank you for writing it and I will share the feedback with the team that tried their best to help you , even though you clearly didn't want to be helped! Warm Regards, Veronica Caccia

I booked this as a present for my husband. The room was spacious, beds were comfortable, hence the 2 stars. I had read the reviews about the 'amazing' breakfast, a part of the day my husband really enjoys. I have to say that it was not worth the £15.00 extra, by any way. We had breakfast on the Saturday morning, and tried to converse with a waiter, we were purely asking for a cafetiere of coffee, a word he appeared to never have heard of before, he asked us twice if we meant decaf coffee! We asked what extras the kitchen did, which were not out on the buffet bar, he didn't know and had to ask the kitchen, he came back with the answer of waffles, infact, the answer was poached egg, omelette and fried egg. On the Sunday we came down to breakfast and we both took some fruit salad, whilst our son had slices of 'fresh' water melon. Unfortunately the water melon was far from fresh and was actually, soft and tasteless, as for the fruit salad ...... it was obviously the same bowl from the day before, because there were only a handful of people at breakfast on Saturday - the fruit had actually fermented and had a horrible fizzy acidic taste. We let the waiter know and amazingly he took the bowl away and brought out a completely fresh bowl. The table beside us also had the original fruit salad and totally agreed with us. Have to say, it somewhat put us off the pile of smoked salmon which was sitting there! My husband let reception know, they apologised, kept on apologising, however, offered no compensation. My husband suggested they let us have a free breakfast, VERY reluctantly they did this. When we left our bags at the reception, the way we were treated was totally unacceptable, the women was so rude, her face hid nothing and actually gave a lot away! She was obviously not happy with the fact that we had complained. This is not a cheap hotel and, from what we experienced, is not worth the stars it has been given. We will not be staying here again.

Staying in a hotel in Dublin these days is not going to be a cheap experience, but the Davenport is very reasonably priced compared to the competition. It and its sister hotels were recently renovated, and we found everything nicely appointed. The staff are very friendly, and you can't beat the location. Within the length of a city block you have Marrion Square, government buildings, the National Gallery other museums. Grafton Street is about a ten-minute walk away. Car parking is not included and the car park is about a five-minute walk away, but again reasonable enough for being in Dublin city centre. We'll definitely be back for our next visit to the capital.

We stayed here for 2 nights as a group of 6 with kids. The location is perfect for exploring the city with plenty of options for eating and shopping. The park across the street is perfect for kids or people watching. The museums are close also.

When we arrived on a Sunday the restaurant was closed at 4 PM so if you’re arriving later you’ll have to go out for food. I’m the future it’s nice to have someplace open late within the hotel to order room service or get a late night snack.

The housekeeper was so kind and brought fresh towels and water even when we didn’t need the room cleaned because kids were asleep.

The bar makes really good cocktails and the bartenders are very friendly! It’s a pretty area to sit and relax.

The rooms were really spacious which can be rare in the middle of the city. If you’re a lite sleeper request a room that’s not facing out onto the street as the pub across the way was a little loud. I didn’t mind but it could keep others awake.

Good location, all interesting things in walking distance, helpful and nice staff, our room has been in excellent condition and a lot of bars, cafés, restaurants, pubs in close proximity. Our three nights stay was lovely.
There is a nice little rustic pub "The Ginger Man" just across the road. Fish and chips and a Guiness are a must.
I am sure the breakfast in The Davenport is fantastic but there are tons of small locations with fresh scones and coffee and tea and you easily get into a chat with locals. Some of the littles places do not look super fancy, but thats not the point. One tip: Avoid the Americano coffee, nothing more than a watered down espresso; mediocre taste and potentially only good to avoid a coffine heart attack. I tried the english tea with milk and sugar. Love it!
Everything we did in Dublin was by walking and we have been quite done in the evening and The Davenport was our little harbour when we came back. The room was made nicely and we streched out on the thick and highly comfortable bed and our aching feets said thank you. By the way even the elevator has class. Nothing what I have seen before. Well, this is not your usual chain hotel.
5 Stars from us, for sure we will come back.

Our trip was off to a rocky start when one week before our arrival we were emailed telling the hotel we had booked a year in advance, The Mont, was temporarily closed. The parent company offered to move us to the Davenport across the street but I could not get them to confirm our room in writing until one day before our arrival which at that time we were already traveling in Europe which was stressful- my emails went unanswered. The room we were given seems like it was maybe not Intended to be booked as it was right next to loud construction and very dusty.

PROS: location, room was large

CONS: loud construction starting around 7am, the hallways floors were covered in plastic wrap, room was dusty, it was supposed to be a king room but the bed was a full or queen not king, we were given one bath towel for 2 people and when housekeeping came they didn’t replace it or bring more.

It was fine but I would not stay again. If I was given more than a weeks notice I could have rebooked elsewhere but at that point last minute reservations are very expensive.

Photos of construction right outside our door and dusty cups.

My friends introduced me to this hotel, who have stayed here many times before. It did not disappoint!! The king size bed was incredibly comfortable (soft and fluffy). The room was on the 5th floor, so you had a nice city view of the surrounding streets. The waterfall shower was a nice touch, as was the surprise bottle of Prosecco and dessert plate “welcoming” me for the night. The front desk was very helpful with a few inquiries, and made sure to follow up quickly by phone, if they did not have an immediate answer. Easy walk to the city center shopping area, around the corner from Oscar Wilde’s home, and a stones throw from Trinity College. I look forward to staying here again when I return to Dublin.
