Breakfast on our first morning was awful, we needed to ask for someone to take our order and for the hot food and bread to be replenished. Dirty plates sat on the surrounding tables and we decided to breakfast in our rooms the following morning, not something we would choose to do on a family holiday. The water pressure of the showers was extremely weak, which exacerbated our son's eczema. I acknowledge these aren't third world problems, but not what you'd expect from a supposed 5 star establishment and their prices.
The hotel locates right at the city centre. Interior design and decoration display in a glamourous way. Breakfast is in high quality and yet food varieities are a bit boring. Unfortunately, despite its heritage, hotel infrastructure and service fail to meet our expectation. The elevator did not serve any residents throughout our stay. It raises accessibility issues, especially for the elderly, people with chronic lung conditions, wheelchair users. We think the elevator would not be repaired at all in order to reduce the operation cost. Even worse, there were an unfinished wine bottle and a dirty spoon in the minibar. It was disguising. We will stay at the Balmoral next time instead.
Stayed for 2 nights prior to leaving on a self drive tour of the Highlands. I am an Ambassador member and was expecting upgrade. Rep at check in stated that 2 double beds was the upgrade. TV in the room had been disconnected and paint peeling on wall in bathroom around a patchy repair of dry wall. Multiple gouges with paint gone on bathroom door. Room located on 1st floor by back alley with loud yelling from patrons leaving local bars around 3 o'clock in the morning. This property does not deserve the Intercontinental brand. Stayed at the Ibis Styles around the corner from this property upon return from driving tour. !00% improvement in rooms, service and food for much less money.
The hotel is in a fabulous location. The staff is friendly, service is excellent. Breakfast was fantastic, and the concierge of the hotel made our whole trip to Scotland special with his assistance and tips. The rooms are very well furnished, super clean, but very very small. Other than that, excellent hotel with super service.
Front Desk employees were delightful at all times, easy to talk to, very helpful and with a great attitude. The building and amenities are fantastic, and the bed is super comfortable. You have everything you need just steps away from the hotel, and I will forever be obsessed with the cookies they provide at your room. Great stay and looking forward to go back.
I've been travelling the world for many years and this was one of the best hotel stays ever! I had recently made IHG Diamond and we were treated like a King! We were upgraded to a fantastic suite with a separate living room and a huge luxury bathroom. I love how the hotel is not modern looking but has an historic elegance. Standing guard at the front door was a doorman that couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. And he's decked out in a kilt! The location is perfect for seeing the city with the double decker bus and lots of bars and restaurants nearby. There's not just one thing that made this a special stay, it was just great in many ways. One night the hotel hosted the local Prom and the next was a traditional Scottish wedding with a bag piper playing out front on the sidewalk. And as an IHG Ambassador member one night was free!…
I stayed at this hotel for a night away with my other half as it was our anniversary. We stayed in the city view suite. The AC and Wi-Fi wasn’t working. The bathroom is absolutely tiny and the bed bath as uncomfortable. The service from staff was completely lacking. We arrived after the check in time of 3PM to be told our room still wasn’t ready with the excuse of the hotel had a wedding on. I was then told I would have to get changed in the public toilets for the bar/restaurant. The hotel staff then said they would store our clothes and take them to the room when ready. Upon us returning to the hotel and getting ready for the evening I discovered my brand new dress for the evening was full of dark brown stains in multiple areas around the bottom of the dress and I was unable to wear it. The only good thing we found with this hotel was the location I’m disappointed to say. This wasn’t a 5* hotel and certainly wasn’t a 5* service.…
Stayed at the George for a few days in July prior to heading to St. Andrews for The Open. The hotel was absolutely packed, but despite that all members of the staff were consistently friendly and helpful. I hesitate to single out any one member of the staff, but Scottie the concierge was of great assistance and Joseph, a bellman who had literally just started working at the hotel, always had a big smile and a friendly greeting for me. The location can't be beat, close to restaurants, shopping, and the tram and buses.
Stay here for 5 nights for our 20th wedding anniversary trip. AC, wifi and plumbing weren't working well and we informed them on the first night. They said they they fix it, and nothing is done. We has. 2 nights of uncomfortable heat in our room. They finally moved us on the 3rd night since they cant fix the problems. Today is the last day, we went for sightseeing and back at 3:26 pm, disappointed to see our morning breakfast trays were still outside of the doors and room hasnt been cleaned. Definitely, not IHG service that we are used to, specially for 5 stars hotel. Beautiful location but just cant recommend this hotel
The hotel reception, staff and concierge were incredible! We had a lost luggage issue and they went above and beyond to quickly help us get what we needed for a wedding we were attending day of the event. Also, when our luggage arrived to the hotel and we had already left the country, they aided in safely returning our luggage through a shipping company. Very professional! Not to mention exceptional support, they were also overall kind hotel staff and ensured we were always comfortable. Highly recommend staying with this hotel!
