We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and cannot fault the staff or hotel. The staff were very friendly welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us we had breakfast in our room both days and can’t fault it, it was warm tasty and exactly what we asked for was there and on time. I’d say it’s one of the best breakfasts we have had on our stays away. The room had everything we needed it was spacious clean and tidy pillows and bed were really comfortable. Overall the hotel was great. I’d highly recommend the picture house just for the experience it was a lovely place with a great atmosphere. We went in the grand cafe twice once for drinks which didn’t end well as my wife had red wine spilt on her and then for Sunday lunch. The staff in there were great although one spilt a drink accidents happen and they were very apologetic and couldn’t do enough. When we went for Sunday lunch again service was great but was really disappointed as they had took the beef and pork off menu and we hadn’t been notified the only option was Turkey which arrived quickly but was really disappointed with it I have had better meals in Wetherspoons and wouldn’t recommend it. If we had been told about the menu I would of booked somewhere else although the service was great the food was poor and definitely not worth the price. This didn’t effect the amazing stay we had at the hotel we would definitely go back just not go to the grand cafe.

We had one of the suites (703) - Room was very spacious with large bedroom (massive comfy bed) and a very large en-suite with shower (no bath, which would have been nice) Separate large lounge with full dining table and another window table which sofa and chairs etc. Very well equipped rooms with all you need including bluetooth speakers and internet connected TV. Free WiFi - although I had a full 5g signal which was faster. All staff we met were friendly and helpful and COVID practices were in place. The restaurant set up is a bit strange and booking is highly advised as they also cater to a high footfall of passing trade, also the menu is a bit limited - There isn't (as far as I can tell) a separate bar area for guests when the main restaurant is open. Breakfast was a fabulous full spread buffet offering full hot buffet (Haggis for breakfast, yes please); cereals, and cold meat, cheese and fish selection. The only negative is that the heating for the lounge area of the room is inadequate and we had to get an electric heater brought to the room to even try and heat it up. Some of this could be overcome by replacing the poorly fitting internal double glazing which just lets wind blow through the room Also note (Not the hotels fault) - There is extensive roadworks going on outside the hotel which makes access difficult.

Great location and nice building but that's about it... Pros: -Excellent location for old and new town - Historic building with nice features - Friendly staff (albeit minus some personality - Oppose the train station which is great! But for some reason this is one way as we were locked in when we tried to go back out at ground level - Breakfast is tasty but could be much hotter Cons: - check in was quick but left to walk around getting lost to find your room - Room was small and very awkward despite upgrading. No where to even hang coats ( these were draped over furniture or just on the floor) no where to hang towels/ robes in bathrooms either...not very well thought out at all. Theres a mirror plonked infront of your TV which you have to put on the floor.. - Free whisky was a nice touch but maybe this is to warm you up as the rooms are cold despite setting heating to 28degrees plus... - Rooms were turned over daily but surfaces were dusty and stains on soft furnishing and floors which is off putting - We had a little area in the corner of the room to sit and drink...however this could be lonley as only one chair is provided - General finish around the hotel could be kept better, surfaces are tired, chipped and very worn - Service is lacking, the Cafe grand has used glasses and left over food on tables if you want a night cap.

Stayed 3 nights in a suite. The room was beautiful and had everything you could possibly need. We had lovely views across princess Street and the Christmas Market. The room & bathroom were spotless. The breakfast was very good ,how ever the breakfast room was very busy and the tables were too close together, I felt very uncomfortable, being so close to so many people. We had breakfast in our room twice ,food came warm ,very generous portions and on time All staff were friendly and courteous. Location is great, right by the Royal Mile and a short walk to Princess Street. Nice touch in reception with free hot chocolate. Lift on Market Street, saved our legs .
