I stayed at at the Holiday Inn Royal Mile when visiting Edinburgh with my family for a long-weekend. The hotel is very conveniently located with walking distance most of the sights, but at the same time in a rather quiet area. I also appreciated that it was close to Holyrood park and king Arthur seat, which is a perfect place for morning runs. The hotel is relatively modern, and had everything I expected for this level and price-range. Decent breakfast, although the selection was not the biggest. Using the fold-out couch as a bed for the kid there was limited floor-space left, but it worked out nicely.
It is very overpriced. Rooms were very noisy, you can hear people talking on their phone in room next door, or talking in the halls until midnight, the walls are very thin. Rooms are tiny, and beds uncomfortable. We chose this to be close to the downtown, and save on taking Ubers, because we went with a young child (7 year old). The hotel was not worth it, prefer to stay a bit out of the city center, to pay a reasonable price, and have more comfort. Breakfast was fine, but coffee is not good, tastes like a vending machine. This is not the best family hotel.
This was a great hotel with very friendly staff! They offer a bag drop for those coming in international that are not able to check in until four. I cannot express the helpfulness of the front staff. The rooms were good and clean. Breakfast was normal eggs, sausage, and breads with cereal.
My two sons and I stayed for two nights at the start of our Easter break. The hotel is close to the train station (10/15 min walk) so easy to get to. We arrived at 1pm and although our room was not ready, the hotel looked after our bags for us to save dragging them around the city with us. Once checked in later, we headed up to our room. It compromised of a double bed and a sofa bed that was made up for us. It’s a decent sized room. My sons loved the bathroom door and the way it hid the toilet when opened ( his favourite part of the room!). We took advantage of the free breakfast each morning and the selection was fine. Boys enjoyed the cereals and muffins and the sausages were decent enough. We went down at 7am (early risers) and it was really quiet at that time. The hotel is a great location for seeing all the attractions we wanted to see and 15/20 minute walk from the restaurants we went to each night. We would definitely stay again! It was less one point as under the bed was quite messy. Nothing a quick Hoover wouldn’t fix.…
My sister and I stayed here for 4 days in February 2022, and really enjoyed our stay! Friendly and helpful staff, breakfast was always great, reception always happy to help out with looking after luggage, extra tea and coffee for the room, etc. Great location for all things Royal Mile and old town Edinburgh, which was wonderful. A great place to stay and pop back to warm up when the snow hits! Highly recommend for those looking for an affordable hotel by all the North Bridge hot spots.
