We were privileged to be the first guests at Bowden House since the lockdown was lifted in Scotland. Uta and her family were incredibly welcoming and took every conceivable precaution against the virus. Everything was beautifully presented and scrupulously clean. They have reduced the occupancy so we were the only guests.
I felt safer there than anywhere else in the UK. In the surrounding area, visitors and locals alike respected social distancing rules, wore face masks and used hand sanitiser before entering shops, cafes and restaurants. Everyone was friendly and helpful. It is a beautiful part of the country.

Bowden House itself is such a lovely place to stay. The house has panoramic views across the surrounding countryside. We were lucky enough to be able to enjoy breakfast outside on the sunny terrace. And what a breakfast! There was fresh fruit, avocado and mushrooms on toast, a full Scottish breakfast for those who wanted it, omelettes, scrambled egg with smoked salmon - the choice was overwhelming. Everything was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. Uta was so full of energy and fun, she kept us entertained and nothing was too much trouble for her.
The family’s two dogs were also utterly adorable and added to the welcoming family atmosphere. Our rooms had stunning views and were comfortably furnished with beautiful bathrooms, fluffy white towels and plenty of hot water.
This was my family’s second visit to Bowden in two years. It was so good to find it every bit as welcoming after lockdown. We can’t wait to go back again.

The house was immaculate and grand, the service was just as good too!

Jason was the host on this occasion and he was exceptionally attentive and a font of knowledge for all of the help and advice we needed.

We had a pair of vegans in the party and Jason helped us arrange dinner and went the extra mile to make sure we have good options for breakfast.

We visited the first week after lockdown and there was good use of ppe and the rooms were absolutely spotless.

We will definitely be back again shortly!

Have recently spent a three night break in Melrose staying at Bowden House B&B. What a fantastic place. Our hosts, Uta and Jason, were delightful as were Elgin and Yoko their adorable dogs.

Uta is an incredibly welcoming, thoughtful and friendly host and the rooms beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and contain everything that you could possibly require.

Breakfast is a delight too! Uta takes your order the evening before and there is a huge selection of possibilities to choose from on the menu. Freshly cooked on the AGA and beautifully presented everything was perfect!

If you are in the area don't even think of trying anywhere else. In our opinion it is 'Simply the Best.'

From the moment we arrived, til the moment we left, we both felt well looked after. Jason greeted us and offered fresh coffee. We sat outside and admired the stunning countryside views. Uta made a delicious breakfast each morning to start our day. Our large room with a large en-suite bathroom were comfortable, clean and well stocked with towels, kettle tea and coffee, soaps and shampoos.

Inside or outside? What could be better than enjoying a lavish breakfast in a bright, period feature dining room? Enjoying that breakfast on the outside terrace, in the sunshine, with extensive views towards the Cheviot Hills! Breakfast example: fresh fruit, juices, various yoghurts, cereals, scrambled egg with salmon and of course a "full" breakfast, which can be adapted as a vegetarian option. Bowden House enjoys an enviable position to which guests are sure to say "wow"! The terracing and the well kept gardens lead on to the south facing view, which is also feature from bedrooms to the front of the house. Uta is very welcoming to guests and will do her best to accommodate individual requirements. Incidentally, you could play a game of pretending to guess her original nationality (fore-warned, it's Austrian) to get a 10/10! The bedrooms are very comfortable and the "Mahogany" room, for example, has a spanking brand new ensuite. Highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed here one night while en-route to St Andrews and then the Highlands. We had driven up from home in Exmoor and so were weary travellers. Utta and Jason are wonderfully attentive hosts who deliver a memorable experience for their guests and have adapted their ways of working to make sure this runs safely with minimum fuss, but maximum care and thought in the post-COVID lockdown period. From arrival with a welcoming cup of tea and biscuits on their garden terrace with its wonderful panoramic views, to fixing a dinner booking locally for us Utta coulnot have been more welcoming or helpful. We had a really comfortable bed in characterful room with excellent en-suite and toiletries and enjoyed a delightful array of choice of wonderful fresh food and beautifully cooked breakfast. We could not fault our overnight stay and only wish we had been staying longer! Having seen other reviews of this B&B , we can appreciate fully why it receives consistently superlative plaudits; if you are looking to stay in this area we can recommend it without hesitation.

My husband and I have just returned from Bowden House B&B , we read the excellent reviews on Trip advisor and were not disappointed.
We were welcomed on arrival by our wonderful host Uta and her husband Jason with a tray of coffee served on the terrace, with amazing views over the rolling hills , our room was absolutely spotless with all Covid protocols in place , our bathroom had a roll top bath and there was also a large shower ,breakfast was superb with the most incredible selection all cooked freshly by Uta .
Uta has the most incredible local knowledge on places of interest, walks and excellent restaurants for evening meals .
Uta ,Jason and family, including dogs , a massive thank you for making our stay in the Scottish Border a wonderful experience and making us feel so safe in this current situation .
If we are ever back in the area we will definitely stay again .

Uta is a great hostess; warm, friendly and helpful. From the greeting on arrival to our departure after 3 nights, we were made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Our room and bathroom were comfortable, spotlessly clean and the shower was absolutely fabulous. There was a tea/coffee making tray in the room, and fresh milk provided in a proper china jug. The breakfasts were great, and we enjoyed meeting the rest of the family (including dogs)!

Uta & Jason are very welcoming & couldn't be more helpful. Beautiful B & B in the countryside with fabulous views from the dining room & our twin room. Lovely comfy beds & good sized ensuite room. Extra touches like shampoo, conditioner, body wash as well as tea/coffee/water/biscuits all provided. Will definitely stay there next time in the Borders area, Thanks Uta & Jason for a wonderful stay.

Stayed here for one night whilst visiting Glentress to do some mountain biking. Uta was an absolutely fantastic, friendly and welcoming host. We were offered fresh tea and biscuits on arrival and Uta went the extra mile to secure us a table for dinner at at a restaurant in the town that evening. The property itself is lovely, clean and spacious. Breakfast was fantastic and there was more than enough food on offer. I should also say that Uta was very careful to follow Covid-19 guidelines and we very felt safe throughout. A wonderful place. Highly recommended.
