We stayed for four nights and the owners David , Sue and their staff went out of their way to accomodate my wifes fat free diet, the bar meals were great. Even deer watching us eat breakfast.
The hotel is just off the main road to Carlisle but you were not disturbed by the traffic, no noise whatsoever as they have a very mature garden with large trees .
The whole building has been tastefully restored with a large bar and quiet seating area in a separate lounge. Our bedroom was perfect .

The building is lovely and set in large lawns. The decor and furnishings inside are beautiful. The lady owner was pleasant and helpful. Our room was a good size nicely furnished with french doors to a small sunny balcony. The bathroom was big enough but because of the layout they have fitted a very small bath with the shower over. The slopping sides if the bath gave little room to stand and was very slippy. I asked for a anti slip mat but I thought hotels were obliged to provide these without the need to ask. Cannot understand why they didn’t simply put a walk-in shower in this room. Both rooms were cleaned to a high standard but the balcony could do with a good brush and spruce up. Good choice at breakfast and it was very nice. When we asked we were told they do serve basic meals and sandwiches in the bar. One evening we eat in and enjoyed burger and chips . We were the only customers which was a shame. Maybe more people would use this facility if the menus were in the rooms included in the hotel information. Overall we enjoyed our stay

Situated a short distance from the centre of Hawick this was an ideal location to stay over night. The surrounding scenery is breath taking. The rooms are modern yet has a touch of rustic feel and the beds are so comfy that you will debate staying another night. The staff were welcoming and couldn’t do enough especially Sue who went above and beyond. The only down side was the man on the desk when we arrived who dropped the key on the desk without telling us where the room was or the facilities like WiFi code or how to purchase the selection of cakes on offer in the foyer. However, we refused to judge the rest of the experience on one negative. The breakfast selection was plentiful and all locally produced. The girls serving breakfast were fantastic, professional and very accommodating If you need a place to stay while visiting the Scottish Borders then this should definitely be at the top of your choices.

Me and my fiance stayed here on a friends recommendation after our wedding was cancelled. Dave, Sue and all the staff bent over backwards from start to finish to help make the weekend a special one, going the extra mile decorating the room with roses, rose petals and a bottle of bubbly on ice for our arrival.

The hotel is perfectly placed outside of the town center so is quiet but still close enough to have a short walk in to the bars and restaurants in the town.

As a whole this place is beautiful, well looked after and great value for money

We are already planning another visit.

Called up to book a baby shower back in January.
The owner of the hotel was very friendly and booked everything in for 3rd March.
This included the hire of the room from 1-5 and a buffer at £10 per person. Called up 3 weeks before to confirm everything was still ok with the booking and was advised yes looking forward to seeing you, also checked it was ok to arrive early to set up which they also advise was ok.

Arrived yesterday at 12:30 to set up to be told the event had been cancelled, owner advised we called up and cancelled advised this was not the case they said they messaged on Facebook to confirm this. Advised we have had no message on Facebook. Advised them they had my number why did they not call to advise this. Both owners become very rude. Asked if we could still have the room as we have 30 people arriving in 1 hour they advised yes you can have the room but we have no staff to make a buffet for you. They said we would also still need £50 for the room advised this was ok.
They advised we will need the room back in 2 hours.
Took this option as we had the soon to be mummy and guests arriving to this location in 1 hour.

We then arranged the buffet our selfs which was very stressful with no help from the owners just the local supermarkets.

The owners advised they would come to the bar and offer drinks, we had to keep going through and asking them to come on the bar as they keep walking away.
They also advised it was a min charge of £5 to use a card again this was not advised at booking, so no guests were aware of this.

At the end of the event we cleaned up and went through to pay.

The owners were very rude. Gave some feedback to try and ensure this didn’t happen again to someone else and this was meet with more rudeness.
They then advised it was £50 plus VAT we explained we were told it was £50 they said it’s normally company’s who book this room so need to add VAT advised this is ok but we were not advised this then they charged for teas and coffee that they put on this took the total cost to £87 when we were advised it was £50.

This hotel is a beautiful hotel but it is not managed correctly and the owners are very rude with no care toward their guests.
I will not be returning to this hotel and will be advised other people of what had happened to us as we do not want anyone else to have to deal with the stress and the rudeness of the owners of this hotel.

Spent three nights in this immaculately decorated and cosy hotel. The breakfasts were really generous and well cooked and served in a room with a beautiful bay window overlooking the garden. The evening bar snacks were also really lovely and great for a young family. The owners were really nice people to chat too and made us feel really welcome. The room was generously sized and warm and very pleasant. Whilst it was difficult to appreciate Hawick because so much of it was in lockdown and shut up , we did manage a trip to The Borders Distillery and it is a great base for doing some lovely walks in the surrounding countryside. Very rarely do we not want to leave somewhere but this place was one of those. Beautiful and sad to leave. Thanks for making us feel so welcome.

Stayed at The Balcary House Hotel as two couples from Friday to Sunday whilst attending a family wedding in Hawick. What a fabulous hotel . We booked two rooms and were allocated rooms 4 and 7.
Both rooms were gorgeous. Everything about them oozed luxury. Large rooms with large bathrooms, really well decorated with quality furniture and fittings and most importantly everything was spotless. The large beds were so comfortable.
We were made so welcome by David upon our arrival and from then on, every member of staff was polite, helpful and very professional in their approach to us whenever we had contact. The girls serving at breakfast obviously take great pride in the jobs as they were attentive, very smart in their appearance and although they were very busy, nothing seemed too much trouble. Whilst getting ready for the wedding we even had a member of staff knock on our bedroom door and ask if there was anything we needed . A lovely considerate touch.
The breakfast at the Balcary was superb. Freshly cooked to order, well prepared and presented and plenty of it.
At check out, Susan told us how busy the hotel had been throughout the year. That doesn't surprise me. The place is, in my opinion, just perfect. Perfect in location, and in everything we expect in a quality hotel. We will be back.

A lovely hidden hotel set back from the main road into Hawick. Clean and well cared for by friendly staff. Our room was large with double doors out to a balcony which overlooked the garden and wooded grounds which we could walk round. Just a few practical things to note - no wardrobes to hang suits, the information folder only held the story of the house, no menus, wifi info, where to get fresh water (you couldnt drink the water from the bathroom tap) times for meals etc which would have proved helpful. We asked the staff about the water and was told it was safe to clean teeth and they would provide bottled water for us but there were several children in the hotel who might have drunk the water with no info in our room about this.

Fabulous .
So grateful to the wonderful owners of Balcary House Hotel. We were moving house and did not get the keys until after 4pm. Our packers had to return to Lanarkshire with all our belongings as the keys were so late. So at 4.30pm in the evening in the middle of Covid restrictions we had to call around to find somewhere to stay. The owners agreed to open for our family and 2 dogs as we had no where to stay.
Not only is the hotel absolutely beautiful, but the owners are absolute diamonds. The rooms are gorgeous. Superbly decorated and furnished with sumptuous beds and ensuite facilities. Food ( prepared just for us) was delicious and we can’t recommend the hotel highly enough.

I loved the style of the house and the rooms were a good size. We were provided with information about the breakfast on check in and were told how to access our room. I wish there had been a wardrobe as when we went to hang our formal clothes we were greeted with a selection of coat hangers on coat hooks behind the door of the room. We phoned for an iron and it arrived to the room swiftly, very good service. When our taxi arrived to collect us, we were informed about getting back into the house should we return after a certain time and appreciated the information before we had left. We did have a good nights sleep and there were plenty of sockets and tea/coffee/water available in the room.
Service at breakfast was efficient and there was everything there that we could have needed, the girls were very polite :).
The hotel is close to the town and we enjoyed a lovely look around before we headed out to our event.
Thankyou :)

We have a ground floor roof with a wet room built to current “easy access” standards. It allows access into the hotel without steps.
