This is hands down the best place we’ve stayed. We stayed here a number of times before COVID and went back last weekend. We were worried that the standards may have dropped but this was blown away very quickly. The staff are relaxed and attentive. The rooms are spotless and comfortable. The breakfast is out of this world and in line with the very best 5 star hotels.

Brilliant hotel. Stayed for two nights for a special occasion and the hotel couldn't have been better. Every member of staff were excellent, whether that was at checking in or out, at breakfast, providing a recommendation for dinner, or when we returned after hours after a few drinks. They accomodated a couple of special requests extremely well and far surpassed my expectations. I have never tipped at a hotel before, and struggle with it at restaurants sometimes, (think Steve Buscemi in Reservoir Dogs). However, I gladly left a tip for the staff here.

In regards to the hotel itself, it does the basics to a level of perfection and then adds some lovely little touches. It's nothing crazy, has no pool and no fitness centre, but it does not need these things.

Location wise it is slightly out of the city centre. After a day of walking around the causeway and other areas of the coastline before coming into Belfast, we wanted to stay local for the evening. Ricky on reception gave us a few recommendations for beer and food within 5 - 10 minutes walk. Try The Woodworkers for craft beer, and Darcy's next door for decent more local cuisine. House was also a good stop off en route back to the hotel.

The next day we walked along the river up to the Titanic and Nomadic, this was a long and blustery walk, but very satisfying. The Glass of Thrones structures along the route certainly helped. After that head into the city and visit watering holes like The Dirty Onion (think Big Thunder Mountain crossed with a cosy pub), The Cloth Ear (attached to The Merchant Hotel).

20 plus minutes walk back to the hotel to freshen up. 15 minutes walk back into town. We ate at Yugo (great Asian food) and then had more drinks in the Duke of York (a Guinness memorabilia shrine) and The John Hewitt (good beer, very friendly, and great local acoustic music on the night we were there). Uber back to the hotel on a Wednesday night just after midnight from The John Hewitt was £4.44.

Also make sure you walk 5 minutes down the road to the Botanical Gardens.

All in all, perfect for a couple of nights break. Breakfast wise, very good. Porridge is delicious but we shared a portion so we could both have a fry up too. The veggie breakfast was delicious, although it doesnt have any meat substitutes, which could be something for the future.

Thank you, Tara Lodge

Just enjoyed 2 nights in Belfast in a fantastic wee botique hotel with a comfy Signature Room. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Big thank you to the gentleman doing the table service at breakfast for the last 2 days. Professional, polite and fully embraced in Covid19 hygiene rules.
Excellent display of high levels of hygiene equipment throughout our stay ranging from hand sanitisers along corridors and a care pack in the room with face masks etc.
Great bed in the spacious room that also had, safe, fridge with wee bottle of fresh milk and tea coffee facilities as well as hair dryer and straighteners. An iron & wee ironing board completed the useful accessories.
A small secure car park was easily accessible and the hotels location is a couple of minutes walk to a busy thoroughfare of diverse restaurants as well as good public transport.
A great find and we will be back for sure.

Having stayed here before, there is always a danger that any subsequent visit might not live up to the same expectations. No worries on that score this time around! The hotel management and staff had gone to some lengths to ensure the guests' wellbeing and comfort were paramount at this time. A welcome safety pack was placed in the room and no servicing carried out, unless requested and additional amenities were provided on request.
Every member of staff was exceedingly helpful and pleasant, but one member of the team in particular is worth a mention - that is Ricky, whose memory for people and their dining preferences was in itself noteworthy!
The location of this guest house, is not the most salubrious, being in the university area, there are lots of student lets/a fair amount of rubbish about and quite a number of buildings either boarded up or in need of TLC. However, it felt safe and a busy thoroughfare at the bottom of Tara's road ensured a constant stream of people. At the bottom of Cromwell road sits a wee gem of a place and so handy for Botanic rail station or a 20 minute walk into the centre of Belfast.
Staying at the top of your game in hospitality is no mean feat, but team Tara work hard at this, and deserve their high rating. Highly recommend and will certainly return, Covid permitting!!

After a very long travel day, 24 hours, from the West Coast of USA, we were warmly welcomed at Tara Lodge. Our room was very clean and comfortable.
We stayed 3 nights and absolutely loved the location.
Very easy access to restaurants, live music and the train. Johnathan at the front desk was especially kind and helpful in keeping our bags secured for a bit after we checked out.
Ricky at breakfast is a jewel and a most welcoming wait person. The entire staff is 1st rate including housekeeping who are more than willing to go out of their way to assist where needed.
Do yourself a favor and stay here.

Tara Lodge is located close to the main street with many restaurants. There is a parking lot behind the hotel but street parking is available too. The room was nice, modern and comfortable. The bathroom was a good size. There is a kettle in the room with tea, coffee and cookies and also bottled water. Breakfast was excellent with many choices. A wonderful stay at Tara Lodge.

We booked a three night stay at the Tara Lodge after reading all the good reviews. Arrived mid afternoon to find dust sheets covering the reception area and workmen present repainting and updating the interior with this scene repeated on the accommodation floors. The receptionist was very apologetic and insisted the work would be completed later in the afternoon however the initial room allocated to us had an overpowering smell of paint. We requested a room change but sadly the second was no better and it was not until we moved to a third room that it was finally free from the smell of paint. After speaking with members of staff we were told this work takes place around the same time each year. It is disappointing that even though we booked well in advance and received emails from the hotel prior to our stay no mention was made of this work. Had we been informed that maintenance work would be carried out during our stay we would have chosen alternative accommodation as this trip had been booked to celebrate a special occasion.
We did find all the staff to be very friendly and helpful.

Response from SineadT78, General Manager at Tara Lodge
Responded Mar 25, 2020
Good morning denniscondor, Thank you for taking time to leave a review, we greatly appreciate all forms of feedback. As I have already provided a personal response to your email, I will not detail everything again for you. As part of an ongoing maintenance programme, we update our rooms and buildings early every year so that we can continually offer the great product that we do to our guests. This is recognised positively by many of our guests who appreciate our commitment to providing a high quality product. However, I do appreciate that advance notice of this maintenance may cause some people to wish to stay elsewhere, and since you provided this feedback to us in early February, we have been using this to ensure your experience doesn’t happen again. While I regret that it did take us two different room moves to find a room that was suitable for you, we did offer a discount to you by way of an apology for your initial experience, which you availed of. Throughout the remainder of your stay, our staff, who I agree are pleasant and helpful, worked hard to engage with you at every opportunity to ensure that you enjoyed your three night stay. Following your frustration during your check in process, our Reception team had been instructed to allow free cancellation at any stage for you to book another hotel if they found you were not enjoying your stay. However, as I followed up with the team during your stay, they said that on every interaction you seemed to be enjoying your stay and their recommendations. I can assure you that if, at any stage of your stay, our team were aware that you were not enjoying your time with us, we would have resolved this for you immediately. I know that you chose to stay with us during special birthday celebrations, and I am sorry that this initial experience has caused you to find no aspect of your stay enjoyable and left you unable to recommend us to others. I do hope that we get an opportunity to welcome you back to show you why we have earned our positive review collection to date, and I am sorry that you felt your experience was not in line with this. Kind Regards, Sinead Tierney General Manager Tara Lodge, Belfast

This hotel is set back on a side street and is easy to find. Once inside you’re welcomed by lovely reception staff who are really friendly and welcoming.
The hotel is nicely decorated and the room we had (19) was well equipped with a fridge, water, fresh milk, tea and coffee facilities, robes, hairdryer and straightening tongs. The bathroom is a lovely size. We had a shower head which was spurting water everywhere on morning one. I told reception and by the time we returned it was fixed.
Breakfast was delicious and served by the most lovely staff who were happy, friendly and the food was perfect! I recommend the Irish nip porridge.
The area around has many a place to eat or drink and the centre is just a 15 min walk away so very handy for exploring.
This hotel is a real treat and a very lovely place to stay.

Well worth a stay if you are visiting Belfast. The staff are fantastic. My room was very comfortable, overlooking the road. Tea and coffee facilities are on hand. There is a TV with a wide range of channels to watch. My only criticism was that the room was too hot but that was easy for me to rectify by adjusting the thermostat.
Close to some great restaurants.
There is a bus service on the main road, where you can get a bus into the city centre.
Near to the Botanic Gardens and Queen's University.

We stayed at Tara Lodge near the end of our 16 day trip to Ireland. It was delightful! The staff was friendly and helpful and our room was spacious and spotless. It had many thoughtful amenities, like washcloths, good lighting, and mirrors near outlets for using the hairdryer. The location is very good, near many restaurants and Queens University (where we walked through the botanical gardens) and the hotel has free parking behind the hotel.

Answer from Mary C

They didn't specifically have a vegan option on the breakfast menu. However, they had soy milk when it was requested and they were so obliging that they would probably cook mushrooms, tomatoe, etc. without dairy if requested.

How far is hotel from train station coming from Dublin? What’s best way to get there from station?
Answer from Maggi713

We took the train from Connelly Station in Dublin to Belfast. We were pleased that our train tickets from Dublin allowed us free passage on local trains connecting tto other Belfast stations. So, it was a short walk to the nearby platform to catch the next train to the Botanic Station (located on Botanic Avenue). Then we walked to the Tara Hotel - about 2-3 blocks.
