The Castle Hotel is an old coaching inn in Wales, standing on the site of a Cistercian abbey within the UNESCO World Heritage walled town of Conwy. This popular Hotel in Wales offers individually designed accommodation. The hotel has 29 bedrooms to the AA and Visit Wales’ exacting 4 Star Town House standards with a ’boutique’ feel. A recent addition is the very popular ‘Healing Hands’ treatment room. Conwy is a town rich in history, with much of it still preserved within the walls and traditional structures of its buildings. In the heart of it is the mighty 13th-century castle, whose walls encapsulate this remarkable medieval town.

We had a lovely meal here a couple of years ago, so returned for dinner in the hope that it was just as good as before. It did not disappoint. Everything was just great. The service, food quality and ambiance was spot on. Steaks were succulent and the lamb dinner was to die for. Highly recommended.

We were really impressed with this hotel. From start to finish the staff were wonderful. Apparently the company who own it are in the Times top100 employers- maybe that’s the link? We ate in the hotel. We were a bit apprehensive as some reviews were poor and steeled ourselves for an average experience. Glad to say the food was great. My wife had risotto which is hard to get right. It was really good! I had Eggs Benedict for breakfast. The poached eggs were perfect and harder to get right than many think Our room was on the top floor at the front. It was really nice and we had no noise issues. Finally we got parked at the hotel, which was good Congrats to all the team at The Castle. I think you are doing a great job.

Lovely decor. Extremely friendly/attentive staff. I had the cod loin and my partner had the gluten free fish and chips - both were unreal, with a glass of red each - it was ideal. Would highly recommend!

We were in North Wales visiting family but wanted to enjoy a proper break too so chose to stay in a good hotel. Positives: - Huge bedroom with luxe decor. Nice to have a sofa and chairs. - Insanely good location in Conwy. We loved being able to walk everywhere and do the town walls, shops and harbour so easily. - The staff were amazing. Everyone was super friendly and very helpful. There is a weird set-up where employees park in front of guests in the limited car park but they were always very responsive if they needed to switch spots. - Breakfast was very tasty and they catered well to my gluten free requests of hash browns instead of English muffins with my Eggs Benedict. Negatives: - The bathroom was clearly in need of a renovation. I know times have been tough but there is no excuse for peeling seal on the shower door, mould beginning on the ceiling or grimy grout. The bath caddy implied luxury but it was the smallest bath I had ever used and I’m only 5”2! There was also very limited storage too so my soap bag ended up on the floor. - King sized beds should be just that - not two single beds pushed together. Spending half the night stuck between the gap of both beds was just uncomfortable and had I known that is what I was getting, I would have rather stayed in a smaller room with just a double. I understand the need to provide twin rooms but in that case, a significantly more substantial mattress topper should be provided. - There should be a warning that certain rooms overlook the main road. The first two mornings meant an early wake-up when rubbish collectors were crashing empties into their truck, which combined with a 6.20am motorcycle every day meant for limited sleep. Maybe provide some ear plugs for guests? I would recommend though, and would most definitely return when in Conwy next. I just would double check on some of these points in advance.

We travelled from the depths of Essex looking for a small hotel with comfort and character and that's what we found at the Castle. The Castle has a rich history as a coaching inn and this is present in a fine collection of paintings, drawings and artefacts throughout the hotel. Our room, a superior twin, had very comfortable beds, a nice well-appointed bathroom and a lovely view of the castle from the window. But as so often, it's the little things that bring a smile: the good quality teabags, the nice chocolate bars and biscuits and the free mineral water every day; how many supposedly "classy" hotels expect you to pay extra for those? And the Castle must have the fastest room service in the West - we hardly had time to put the phone down before the knock on the door. But as always, it's the staff who make or break a hotel and the staff at the Castle are lovely. "Nothing was too much trouble" is any over-used phrase but here it seemed to be true. We could have been back in Japan! The staff we spoke to all said that they enjoyed working there and that it was "a great place to work" and that feeling came through in the way we were treated. We only eat once in the restaurant but we enjoyed our dinner. The lamb was well cooked and delicious, the creme brulee got the thumbs up from my partner who is something of a connoisseur and my baked apple dish was actually very imaginative as well as being a treat for the eye and the taste buds. The wine list is sensibly short and down-to- earth with realistic prices and lots of single-glass options, another plus with us. OK, the Castle isn't perfect; where is? The room cleaning was a bit hit and miss, varying from perfect on some days to slightly rushed on others. And we would have liked the vegetarian options on the dinner menu, while perfectly adequate, to look a little more adventurous, but this is us being picky. Overall, we would like to thank everyone at the Castle for giving us a super time, with a special word for John the general manager, who was a charming hands-on presence throughout our stay and who dealt with every little mishap which is bound to occur in a busy hotel with the efficiency which comes with confidence and experience. Taking a hotel with a long and proud history into the 21st Century and making it spruce and efficient without loosing its warmth and character is not an easy trick but the Castle pulls it off in style. We loved it.
