Travelers' Choice
The Royal Crescent Hotel is the most impressively located luxury hotel in the World Heritage City of Bath, occupying the two central buildings of the world's finest crescent. The Grade-I listed buildings were designed by the famous Georgian Architect, John Wood the Younger and were first occupied in 1775. Beyond its magnificent facade lies a hotel renowned for its charm, elegance and superb service, and the unexpected beauty of the beautiful one-acre, landscaped garden leading to the skillfully converted coach houses, which now accommodate the award-winning Dower House Restaurant and The Spa. This iconic hotel is far more than a remarkable collection of buildings and beautiful gardens. It offers the opportunity to experience a style of gracious living from the age when Bath was the very centre of the civilized world. Breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner are served daily and non-resident guests are welcome.

For a 5-star and VERY expensive hotel, this was really a disappointment. It's clear this hotel trades off its incredible location and it feels a bit like it rests on its laurels because of this...a few points, starting with the highlights: -Service was mostly attentive and always very kind and friendly. My partner and I had an unfortunate health incident while at the hotel and they quickly arranged a taxi, were very attentive and accommodating. It was very much appreciated. -Massage/masseuse - absolutely fabulous! -Location in the middle of the Royal Crescent is a show-stopper. -Concierge recommended a great little restaurant nearby Now for the unpleasant bits... -We arrived at 9.00pm as planned and nobody was at the door, concierge, or check in desk. Not a great welcome after a long day and definitely not 5-star service. -Kitchen inexplicably closed 30 minutes early. -Our TV was broken. When it couldn't be fixed, we were given a spare set of keys and offered to go watch tv in a different room. It was very strange. The room we watched TV in was far nicer and bigger and wasn't occupied at any point in the weekend - why wouldn't they just move us to a new room??? TV was never fixed but we didn't care much. -The electronics are all VERY dated. In fact, everything is dated. The decor of the rooms felt like a 2000's era Marriott. TVs were not smart TVs, old alarm clocks. The hallway was just worn and sad. -Our view was crap - looked out on a wall and a sad courtyard with caution cones up everywhere. -The spa is very small and there was rubbish everywhere. In the 3.5 hours we spent in the spa, someone came to tidy up just once and there was no water, no towels. -The restaurant is really nothing special looking. Maybe the food was incredible? We only ate breakfast and the decor is tired and the service very spotty (had to ask for things multiple times) -Rubbish was left in our room after the cleaning service. Then plates were taken out and left in the hallway for a day. It just felt like we were in some forgotten annex in the back. If we'd spent half of what we spent, I would've been happy but this hotel is VERY expensive. For the price, you'd expect a 5-star experience and it's just absolutely not. This place needs a LOT of work. I can see that many of the responses say, 'you should have told us about X'. At these prices, customers expect proactive, luxury service and this hotel has a LONG way to go in that category.

Room Tip: Avoid the back! Our room looked out on a sad courtyard and a wall. Ours was a Master...

I enjoyed a two night stay at The Royal Crescent Hotel with my wife and our 6 month old baby. The team could not have been more accommodating, highlights included 1. We were allocated the perfect room (the grand and spacious Brinsley Sheridan suite on the ground floor) which included a cot and toy box 2. Excellent room service, serving a great menu and wine list to us on both evenings as we were unable to get out to restaurants due to a sleeping baby 3. Generally excellent service, holding doors, allowing a late checkout, allowing our car to be parked roadside etc small things that make a big difference when travelling with a baby. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and look forward to returning when next in the beautiful city of Bath.
