Booked this through Booking.com for the Saturday of the Bank Holiday weekend. The photos on the website looked great. Not the experience we had. Was given room 9 on first floor, (try to avoid if you can)..It was a double but very small. The small bathroom had just bathroom and toilet with the handbasin being in the main bedroom. The bath and shower could have done with a good clean as brown marks on the tiling and the metalwork could have done with some limescale remover. Not convenient having to use the toilet then go back into the bedroom to wash your hands. Bed was comfortable enough but we spent very little time in the room. No breakfast was available so not sure if this reflected in the price of £75 or not. The main plus point of this hotel is it's location to the station and the city centre. If the rooms were as described and shown on the Bookings.com website I would stay again. But if the experience we had was repeated it would be a big no with that type of room and facilities.

I originally booked this hotel because we were going to be trading at a 2 day event in Norwich which was cancelled due to the coronavirus. I tried to cancel the hotel but was told I couldn't so we decided to go there for a weekend break anyway. When we arrived we were told that the Riverside Guest House was over booked and we were taken to some apartments up the road instead (even though we booked it 8 months ago) . If it was over booked why couldn't we have a refund? When we got to the apartments the woman from the hotel seemed to be having an argument with a man outside in a foreign language about us. We were shown to our room by the man who absolutely stunk of BO so bad it made me gag. I was wearing a face mask and it was awful. Heaven knows how bad he would have smelt without it. When he left I had to open the window for quite a while to get rid of his smell. The room was tiny. Just a bit bigger than the bed and the bathroom was tiny too. Room was hot and stuffy. If you've got lots of luggage as for a ground floor room otherwise it's up 2 flights of narrow, steep steps. Good points were that it was in walking distance from the river, city centre, cathedral, football ground, castle etc. Bed was comfy. Tea and coffee in the room.

The room we selected was superior and was very comfortable. The bathroom was large and had a bath and separate large shower cubicle. Clean but a little limited in storage for a weeks stay. Could have done with chest of drawers or some sort of drawer space. Breakfast wasn't provided due to Covid-19 but tea/coffee facilities were readily available. Toiletries provided as well as towels. Permits for parking could be booked from reception at £5 a day as permit holder parking was only parking in vicinity. Very close to centre of Norwich and lots of restaurants within 5 minutes walk.

Stayed at this hotel with my girlfriend and thought we could support a local hotel instead of a premier inn etc but definitely regretted it, arrived at the hotel (which stunk of smoke) and was taken to our room, the tap was dirty with what I imagine was toothpaste or something like that but we wasn’t too bothered. When it came to going to sleep it was near impossible, could hear scurrying coming from underneath the floor boards which I imagine is mice or rats or something, and then could hear scratching coming from inside the walls, we left at 4am in the morning because we literally couldn’t sleep there, would definitely not recommend, tried to contact the hotel but no response so contacted booking.com and they replied with the email in the picture attached.

I was worried after reading reviews but shouldn't have been. Firstly, the location is spot on. Our room was a superior at the front of the building so overlooked the river. We had an email before arrival telling us that they have 2 buildings so we knew that being in their other hotel (literally round the corner) may be a possibility. The man who sorted us out was kind and helpful. Showed us all we needed to know and sorted out our £5 permit which we booked in advance. The room was big enough, towels and toiletries provided and also tea/coffee making facilities.
Overall a great little stay and will happily use again.

We booked a night in the riverside guest house. The room cost us £70 including a parking permit.
When entering the room it smelt damp and was overpowering we thought this was just a case of opening the windows, which we did and went out for the night, when we arrived back the smell was stronger.
In the room we were advised that if there were any issues with our stay to email them directly to the hotel, which we did, I informed them that we had to sleep with the windows open due to there been no ventilation and an overpowering smell. To which they replied below.
Baring in mind the conditions they mention towards the end was that I had mentioned that I had asthma and was pregnant and struggled to sleep in the room as it was.
And according to them I should have made them aware of my ‘condition’ and they would have given us an alternative or cancelled.

At "Riverside" we have 4 buildings and 9 different types of rooms for the variety of guests with different needs and budget.
When we received this booking on the 2 March 2022, I was asking myself: who are these people, making the reservation so far in advance and selecting our cheapest (our worst) room? All the better rooms were available, and at that time the prices were very low, for a few quid you could have Standard or even Superior room...
General info: ..."Please make sure the type of bed(s) and size of the room(s) you booked suit your needs. Note, there are Small (Economy), Standard and Superior sizes of the rooms. If Small room is selected, please expect it to be smaller than Standard room, one side of the bed against the wall and no view from the window.
When the cheapest room is selected, one should ask: "What kind of people book these rooms and in this area?
We didn't receive any information about you or your condition in the section "Important info about the guest" or "Special requests" and knew nothing about your sensitivity (nobody else complained about the smell)
If you'd mention your condition on your booking, then we'd advise you to upgrade your room or cancel it altogether.

Kind regards,
Kasey, manager

We booked riverside hotel. Even confirmed that I would upgrade. Got accused of not confirming when it's in my sent box in gmail. Arrived 2 mims early got moaned at. Took to Aspland hotel. The most tiny room I ever seen. You can not be taller than 5ft or you would kick the clothes rail while you sleep. You can't moved the clothes rain unless you don't want use of the bathroom. If it wasn't for the lovely lady that cleans there it would of been really bad value. Especially when premier in would of been cheaper.
The room was clean and lovely bath though. Just could not move in the bedroom. There was 2 of us and good job we are both small and 5ft 2.

We booked a room for 2 nights at the riverside hotel.

Positives -
Bed was very comfortable
Shower water pressure was great and a decent size shower
Good toiletries
Tea and coffee available and topped up on the 2nd day
Fan supplied as it was hot
Close to the riverside restaurants
Nice view

Negatives -
Kettle switch broken. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it, which we obviously was not aware of and my fiancé burnt his finger
Odd smell in the bathroom. Sort of a stagnant water/stale cigarette smoke?
Dent in the floor next to the bed
No where to put toiletries in the shower. Only on the floor
Old and rough towels
Road so busy and noisy that the window couldn’t be opened
Wardrobe seen better days
Only one bedside table
Horrid smell in the lobby and up the stairs. Again, stale cigarette smell

The riverside was ok for two nights, but would not be suitable for more than that. We would not return.

Well where do you start ? Arrived to find that the photos give you a false sense of what your in for. The only good thing about this place is you are welcomed by the people, but that’s all, when you asked for parking passes all you get is negative replies, and arguing statements like “check your bookings “ so unless you ask for parking and breakfast “ you get nothing.
Rooms are small and stink, beds are old, basically this place makes Faulty Towers look like the Hilton !!!!

We tried to check in at 1pm. No one answered our 10 phone calls or answered the front door. We walked into town and received a phonecall at 5pm asking if we are going to arrive !!
We arrived at 6.15pm and were told it was £5.00 to park which we refused as we had paid a car park from check in time. So was not charged parking. The room was really clean and bed comfy I have no complaints on that score. I am not sure if this place doubles up as a Hostel. A family were staying in the next room x 5 adults and children. They started cooking in a make shift kitchen at 9.30pm kids shouting from 9pm onwards. We called the reception guy who put a stop to it. The room faces the main road and you may as well be sleeping on the pavement as its so noisy . 😴 I can't fault the room but we won't be staying again !!!!

Not really sure that its any of their business. The guy that checked us in was more interested in doing his job and getting us established rather than chatting.
