Dan who prepared our food in the restaurant was equally friendly and humourous and the quality and price of the food and drinks was very reasonable. I stayed for one night as London City Airport Travelodge was a short taxi ride (approx £17.00) to the O2 Arena where TOOL were in concert😃🤘🏼.
Overall a great place to stay and near to the O2 Arena and London City Airport. 💯

1. Drink – Only able to offer one type of white wine (Chardonnay) even though the menu offered more. We were offered a Rose from a bottle with a cork, unfortunately the only method of opening the bottle would be to use a knife to push the cork into the bottle, something which we declined. We decided on a glass of red wine which was served at too high a temperature and no measure was used for pouring. When requesting a second glass of wine we had to use the original glass as we were told there were insufficient glasses.
2. Food – On attempting to order food we surprised as to the long list of items not available. This impacted on whole meals or parts of meals. There were no salads, no curries, no pasta or meatballs as there was no Arrabiata sauce, no bacon for the meat feast pizza, no coleslaw for the roast chicken, no nduja pizza, no peppers for any pizzas that required them. We ordered a ‘compromise’ pizza (meat feast without bacon) and a Buttermilk Battered Chicken Burger ( Crispy chicken coated in a delicious buttermilk batter with melted Monterey-Jack cheese. ) When these were served the pizza base was extremely hard and went cold very quickly and the burger was totally inedible ( a stale un-toasted bun, two thin slices of tomato, half a limp lettuce leaf with a flaccid piece of chicken with a very small amount of burnt cheese, fries that were cold and only part cooked.)
3. Room – Very cheap thin pillows which were not conducive to a comfortable nights sleep. The toilet seat was loose and dangerous to sit on.
We were surprised by the number of people returning to the hotel with bags of food shopping and take-away meals which they took to their rooms.
We had no soap in the room. Even when we asked for soap, they said they'd get some for us. That never happened. When I was asking about the soap the front counter person apologized and stated he could give us a "small cup" of soap. During this interaction another patron who was very upset came down to complain that he had no toilet paper and asked why they didn't check the room for the essentials. The front desk person could only apologize.
The first night was very warm in the room. We had an air conditioner, but it was locked down with a code that the front desk wouldn't share. So we had to have the window open with the loud trains going by.
They only clean the rooms every six days. You have to ask for clean towels. In fact, I asked for clean towels and they never delivered.
They do have a breakfast buffet that costs £11 per person. It's not worth it.
All in all, I'd highly recommend looking for different accommodations.
Please note there is no fridge or microwave in the room.
If you mind hearing airplanes then perhaps rethink but that was not an issue for us.
The rooms do get very warm and stuffy. On arrival one evening the key to the room did not work, on investigation by staff they said the battery for the door had died (which happens, so fine) we were told it was resolved and let back in our room only to experience the same issue the very next day. A staff member confirmed the necessary steps had not been taken by the first colleague which resulted in the issue remaining. They resolved the issue.
There’s more we could say but in all, we just would never book to stay here again and would not recommend.
Rooms were clean and tidy, bed was very comfortable and bathroom clean also so no complaints there
The closest tube station is Pontoon Dock DLR just a 10min walk down the road there you can catch trains towards Canary Wharf, the city etc.
The hotel is very well located for ExCel centre (15min walk away)
Great value for money compared to the other hotels nearer to Canary Wharf which were extortionate, this hotel is a lot better option if you’re looking to be close to ExCel, The o2 Arena and Canary Wharf as they’re all a short train ride or walk away.
Overall impressed with our stay and would recommend, will stay here again if we’re ever in the area again
The building was unbearably hot throughout my four night visit, I was on the top floor. It was a known issue by staff and whilst there was a supply of fans available, I was only made aware when checking out. Desk staff stated that "I should have asked for one."
There were not enough staff on each evening to cover both the bar and kitchen requirements. Junior staff were overwhelmed and appeared untrained. The situation was made worse when the link between the bar till and kitchen printer failed, resulting in a 70min delay in food. An already unfortunate situation worsened when a more senior member of staff berated publicly the junior barman. On seeing my frustration of the whole event, I was approached by another customer who said this poor performance was a regular occurrence. He had already experienced this several days previously and stated that the local fast food chicken establishment whilst cheap and healthy was at least reliable - he ate fast food chicken in the public area of the hotel each night.
It's clear this location survives due to its proximity to the Excel event centre. It urgently requires a senior management intervention to bring it up to the standard expected of an average hotel experience.
The staff were friendly and helpful but the stay was a disaster.
"Stay elsewhere. The proximity to the airport and the lower room costs are not worth it"Read full review
