This has to be the biggest joke of a hotel we have ever stayed at. After complaining about room we asked to be moved due to being on fourth floor with the lift not working. We asked if we could be refunded so we could move to a different hotel. Sadly you have to email them and you are not guaranteed to get one. We eventually got a disability room.When the wife had a shower the whole room flooded out soaking our clothes in our luggage. Went down to reception to let them know where there 2 other couples complaining and looking for room changes. Once again got another room. This time it was usable. No tea or coffee in room, 2 pounds to take away in reception. We can only warn other not to stay this hotel it is not fit for purpose. We would have only gave one star, however the staff were polite and pleasant even when being bombarded with complaints.

This is excellently situated for exploring the city and the staff are great, but it is starting to look a little tired and, as in the title, the double bed in room 110 belongs in a skip. Its springs twang with the least movement whilst in bed, two people sink into the centre of the mattress whether or not they want to, and the lift noise on the other side of the wall is not appealing.

I stayed it the room with no windows, great location, great service, spacious clean rooms, refurbished shower rooms. The receptionist was also very helpful and kind. Only downside was that there was no hot water in the morning, but the engineer fixed it about 10/11am after I'd left for the day. The room doesn't come with tea or coffees and the wood effect laminate flooring was bubbling.

Not sure where to start… when booking this I was expecting a lovely city centre hotel as the pictures online gave me that expectation! Unfortunately the hotel wasn’t what I was expecting.. a man on reception welcomed us and told us where to find our room which was on the 5th floor. We were told the lift to the first floor was working but we would have to take the stairs from the 1st to 5th as the lift was broken which wasn’t ideal if I’m honest, and looking back on reviews it seems like the lift was out of order for a very long time? After the long journey to the top floor or attic, which is what it felt like, our room door was left open which we thought was strange.. The room wasn’t clean, from the moment I walked in I saw a dirty and dusty window ledge which could of been easily sorted with a wet cloth.. marks on the wall, dirty floor but that isn’t the worst of it.. I checked the bed and wow I was shocked to find mould.. yes mould!! On my bed sheets! To then find a wee like mark down the wall by the side of the bed.. at this point I knew I wouldn’t be staying in this room! After going to complain I realised the door wouldn’t actually shut unless it was slammed! After speaking to a lady on reception she swapped our room and gave us a full refund! I was happy she could do something but it wasn’t the best start or first impression! Finding our new room was a TASK! Following signs and going through loads of corridors I felt like I was in a maze and then I came to what looked like a hall, very old fashion hall, that we had to walk through to get to our room which I thought was rather creepy but it is a very old building.. I nearly didn’t go through it as I thought no rooms would be through there but they were. Our new room was lovely compared to the one before. The sash windows are far from soundproof and unfortunately our room was next to a private room which seemed to be a cleaners cupboard which woke us up both mornings and we actually had a massive laundry basket outside our room which we thought was very inconsiderate. No kettle in the room but there was a coffee machine at reception. Another thing which I found concerning was when we came back at 3am after a night out the reception door would just open and yes there was someone on reception but anyone could just walk in and go upstairs which made us feel unsafe! There was no key card to get in or onto all the floors? Overall I wasn’t impressed and would prefer to spend an extra £100 on a premier inn. I definitely feel as if I was catfished. Very dated, not the cleanest, staff seem to be not very interested at times apart from Zoe who helped us change rooms! Musty and unusual smells throughout the hotel, felt like more of a hostel! Seems very welcoming and professional when you enter the hotel but as soon as you go upstairs it’s the complete opposite.

Check-in was efficient and quick. The staff on the front desk were polite and helpful. The hotel is in a heritage building, and set over multiple floors. The lift by reception only goes to the first floor (and was operational). However, on reaching the first floor you have to get a further lift to the upper floors, and this lift was unfortunately broken. The rooms are quite difficult to find and it’s quite complex to navigate around the floors of the hotel. Once we found our room, we were pleased that it appeared to be relatively clean and had a window. On closer inspection the floor was rather gritty and unclean. The shower still had the long brunette hairs of the previous guest and the shower pressure and water fluctuated greatly during our showers. There were numerous suspicious looking stains on the walls and curtains. The bed was creaky and rather lumpy, I could feel the springs through the fitted sheet but it was at least clean. Our room was at the rear of the hotel and was quiet, although the windows are old sash type windows and single glazed. We paid £90 for the room, no breakfast included or even any hot drink making facilities. I’d rather pay a bit more and stay at a Premier Inn if I’m honest. Unlikely to stay here again.
