Just had a two night stay here , would never return. Outside of hotel looked ok but then it was downhill from then on. We were in room 16. After nearly tripping over bags full of laundry on the stairs we got to our room. Quite small, extremely dated, dirty carpet. Ceiling paper peeling, cramped mildew bathroom with a broken toilet seat. There was a fly inside the plastic covered cup in the bathroom. Mouldy shower ( although decent pressure and did get hot water after a while) . Bed quite comfortable but was a small double. Flat screen tv which we couldn’t adjust the volume via the remote. The floorboards badly creaked with every step. There was huge dog in the building next door which was barking at 10.30pm. It was so loud it might as well been in our room. Clearly pets are permitted as a dog was in the room next door. A general feeling was this hotel has permanent residents, some of which congregate on the staircase. We were so grateful we hadn’t paid for breakfast. At no time did anyway ask if everything was ok , not even a goodbye when we checked out. All in all not a pleasant stay. Would definitely suggest staying elsewhere which is a shame as the hotel is in a perfect position.…
This hotel was fab, we was 4 adults and 1 child. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The whole hotel had a friendly vibe to it. And the hotel was done up for halloween and the staff, which our nephew loved. Our stay was excellent and breakfast was great. We will definitely be back and will recommend to our friends and family. The hotel is in a Great position as well

We have just come back from a 3 day 2 night coach trip with Harry Shaw. Our room did need some attention but it was clean and warm. But the staff at the Melville are outstanding and amazing - everyone who works there is friendly, helpful - nothing is too much trouble. Well done. Would definitely stay again and recommend the hotel.
