Glendale Guesthouse is a very beautiful and extremely spacious Victorian built town house, centrally located in Penrith. Constructed from traditional Cumbrian Red Sandstone, built sometime in the mid 1800’s. The plot on which number four (Glendale) would be built, at that time stood in the wooded grounds of the ‘Wordsworth Buildings’ and close to the Public Baths and ‘Wash Houses’ located on ‘Hunters Lane’. The house was understood to have originally been built for the ‘Edington Family’ with Daniel Charles Edington, born in 1866 in Edinburgh, trained as a Doctor. He was a prominent member of the local community, overseeing gruesome autopsies which were widely reported in the newspapers of the time. The Doctor shared his home at 4 Portland Place, with his wife Frances and son, who’s birth at the house was announced in the Scotsman in 1899 – the very first owner/occupants of this gorgeous Victorian house.

Booked in for 3 nights having enjoyed my previous stay. Despite the necessary changes due to Covid I can honestly say it didn't affect my stay in the slightest. My room was spotless, beautifully decorated and was at the back of the house so extremely quiet. The breakfasts were excellent and set you up nicely for the day. The owner, Ann, was so friendly and couldn't do enough to make my stay enjoyable and relaxing. If you're looking for accommodation in Penrith then you should definitely stay here!

Cosy decor, very friendly, immaculately clean, service with a smile and a real homely feel with an air of subtle calmness. The ensuite facilities are both modern and of the highest quality. Highly recommend!

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for one night last Saturday, the lady that greeted us was lovely and gave us all the information for the night. The room was beautiful (room 3), spotless a good size too with full length mirror, large dressing table and seating area in the window. The bed was very comfy, the only thing that would be a point to raise is that when you flush the toilet it’s very loud and rumbles for about 3 constant minutes after you’ve flushed it. We didn’t have breakfast but the dining room looked lovely. Would definitely recommend staying.
