A fairytale gothic mansion, forest side is the fulfilment of a romantic dream. Set in the magical lake district landscape of wordworth's beloved grasmere, this beautiful house charmed visitors for over a century before falling into disrepair. But, like sleeping beauty, forest side has been reawakened. Enchanting gardens are emerging from the wilderness while our fabulous rooms are fit for any prince or princess.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Forest Side. What an absolute fantastic hotel it is, fabulous and attentive staff who can't do enough for you. Whilst we enjoyed the first stay I have to say that the food was even better this time. Our eight course tasting menu we had was the best meal I have ever had. Incredible time so thank you to everyone who works here, we will definitely be back very soon.

Stayed on the Christmas package. We received a very warm welcome and were shown to our room "Cedar" which has a terrace. The room is wonderful with a huge bathroom with walk in shower. Christmas Eve was a 4 course menu in lovely surroundings. All socially distanced and Covid safe. The food was outstanding as expected both in taste and presentation. On Christmas day we had the 8 course taster menu which was amazing. On boxing day we attended a wine tasting and had a marvellous afternoon tea before another 4 course dinner. Hard to sum up our experience succinctly but it was perfect and a real antidote to a horrible year. All staff were friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. We have booked to return in the summer.

Repeat visit to this wonderful hotel, the staff are very friendly and helpful and all covid protocols are in place and adhered to without compromising on the ability to operate. The restaurant is excellent, the range of dishes and flexibility from the kitchen aligned to the excellent service, individually printed menu's, superb food, wonderful presentation and all round brilliant experience.

We were staying in this hotel for two nights and dined in the restaurant on both occasions. The food was amazing and very well presented. The first night we chose the eight-course tasting menu with accompanying wines and this was superb. The following night we decided we could cope with another eight courses so opted for the four-course tasting menu which was equally as good. If you book into the hotel for two nights they make sure none of the dishes are repeated. The staff were excellent and it was a particularly nice touch to see some of the younger chefs come out from the kitchen to present their dishes. You tend to get what you pay for in this world and as a result the food served was of the highest standard. Highly recommended. We can’t wait to return which I’m sure will be in the not too distant future.

This hotel came strongly recommended by friends who had recently visited and we were certainly not disappointed. It’s situated just outside Grasmere but only a fifteen-minute walk from the hotel. Covid guidelines were enforced but not as strictly as other establishments we have recently visited. Having said that we had no major concerns in these strange times. Our room, Wild Cherry, was lovely with a large comfortable bed and a separate shower/bathroom down some stairs and away from the bedroom itself. The only minor issue, during our stay, was the creaking floorboards from the loft room above which was a little annoying. We had booked in for two nights and on both occasions dined in the restaurant. The hotel was only operating at half occupancy and hence the restaurant tables were well spaced. The food was unbelievable and well presented. The first night we had booked the eight-course tasting menu with accompanying wines and this was superb. On the second night, we opted for the four-course tasting menu which was equally as good. Apparently, if you book in for two nights they make sure none of the dishes are repeated. It was particularly nice to see the younger chefs come out of the kitchen to present their dishes. They all looked very proud and appeared to enjoy their jobs. Having said that all of the staff were extremely friendly and very efficient. A particular thank you to Dean who made our dining experience fun with his banter. This is certainly a hotel where you get what you pay for and as a result, this was an outstanding and enjoyable place to stay. Highly recommended, we will be back hopefully in the not too distant future.
