We spent a fabulous four nights at Townstal Farmhouse B&B in September. The building is an authentic and cosy 16th century farmhouse, which looks very attractive from the outside and still retains its period charm on the inside. There is parking for around 7 or 8 cars, and we didn't have any problem getting a space, although it is quite tight. The location of the B&B at the top of the main hill into Dartmouth is ideal, away from the main hustle and bustle but still a short walk from all the shops, restaurants etc. Just beware - it's quite a hill on the way back up! We certainly got some exercise in on the hotter days! Parking is free after 6pm in the town, so some evenings we decided to drive down rather than face the walk after dinner. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. I particularly liked the fridge inside the wardrobe to keep the milk cold, which enabled us to store leftover food when we couldn't finish our dinner and keep our water bottles nice and cool. Also there was lots of surface space in the bathroom to lay out our toiletries, which I usually find lacking. Even though the B&B is situated next to what is a busy main road during the daytime, at night when the ferries aren't running across the Dart it's virtually deserted so it was very quiet and we slept beautifully. The hosts at Townstal Farmhouse are exceptional. We had a warm greeting when we arrived and it continued from there. Jean spent time chatting with all the guests at breakfast and she made sure we all had everything we needed in our rooms, as they're not serviced daily due to Covid. Breakfast was a bit of a hectic time for them on some mornings due to lack of staff, which unfortunately is affecting the entire hospitality industry at the moment - but they were always apologetic. It was nice and easy to order our breakfast the day/night before and arrange a time to be seated to help everything run smoothly. We really really enjoyed our time at Townstal Farmhouse and we'll definitely be back if we're ever in the area again! Thank you!

This is a lovely farmhouse on the edge of Dartmouth with generous, clean and comfortable rooms and excellent breakfasts. Very friendly staff too. It's not too far into town and I should certainly like to stay here again.

Townstal Farmhouse is a 16C farmhouse not a boutique hotel. It is quintessentially an English B&B run with good old fashioned friendliness and home comforts. Jean & Nigel and the rest of the staff clearly enjoy being hosts and we enjoyed being their guests. Our room was clean, well equipped and we appreciated having fresh milk in our own fridge. It was at the top of a very steep hill. It took me 15 minutes to walk down into Dartmouth and I caught the number 90 bus back up which runs every half hour. In the evening we took a taxi back which was £4

Checked in around 4pm. Nigel was friendly and made us very welcome. Gave us our key and directions to our room. We hadn't included breakfast in our booking and Nigel said we should look at the menu and phone our choices and preferred time to reception. The room and ensuite shower room were average size. The bedding was very tired and limp. There was a king-size duvet squeezed into a double cover. The bed was small and the mattress not very comfortable. Breakfast was very nice. Fruit juice cereal, yoghurt and tinned fruit, followed by full English and toast and tea for £8 per head in addition to room cost seemed acceptable, until the last morning when we were charged the same just for tea and toast and told by Jean "it is what it is." All in all an okay experience but I very much doubt we would stay there again.

Just spent 3 nights here. Everything about it is very good. Breakfast is fab the rooms are very clean and the owners are very nice. Only downside are the seagulls that woke us up at stupid o'clock on the morning, this was because we left windows open. One thing that I've never had in any other hotel or B and B that Jean kindly did was to put fresh milk in the fridge. Nothing worse for me than making a cuppa tea in the morning with UHT milk. Can highly recommend Townstal Farmhouse to stay. Thank you Jean. Ps. On site parking is a massive bonus if your visiting Dartmouth
