I cannot express how much this hotel made use feel as a family. It is very rare that a hotel is able to cater for a full age range of family but from age 1-81 the Esplanade were absolutely spot on! Chris and the team went above and beyond for us as a group of 10 staying and then 20 more family members joining us for breakfasts and lunch and afternoon tea and fab Christmas dinners (we had 2 because of the Turkey and tinsel brigade) we were included in everything from brass bands to bingo and fireside cocktails! The list goes on, the play area is brilliant for anyone local for coffee and a chat or 2 Weeks by the sea. Facilities are clean well maintained, safe, and an absolute pleasure. To sit and watch the world go by on the comfy sofas is so relaxing food is served wherever is easiest for you and it’s excellent. Breakfast was lovely everyday it was fresh tasty and well presented. The pastries are delicious the produce used is local and this stands out! Afternoon tea was lush more than enough for us to share. The evening meal was beautiful a good variety with a choice for everyone. I can’t thank everyone enough for looking after us so well. You know who you all are! We will be back in the next few weeks to spend our loyalty points. Esplanade you were wonderful!! We’ve been coming now for over 20 years but I have to say it’s getting better each time we stay. I think being just before Christmas added to it. The whole atmosphere was relaxing. The cinema is a gift and the cookies and milk for the children before bed was such a lovely touch. I really cannot fault it. If your wanting a family break don’t hesitate! You will make memories to last a lifetime. P.S. please put a mirror in the lift It would be great for last minute checks!…
This is a gorgeous house with an amazing view over Fistral Beach. It is definitely a family friendly hotel and the small details are all thought of to make sure little ones are well looked after and thought about. The staff are welcoming and friendly and a special thanks to Daniel in the restaurant who was always jolly and sped up my daughters dinner as she was nearly asleep and to the lovely cleaning staff, especially the lady who ran after us to return my daughters beloved rabbit which she had left on the floor. She chased after us to make sure he was returned safely-an absolute saviour! The hotel is clean and smart looking and the rooms are lovely and comfy and clean. The swimming pool was spotless and very well cared for. All in all a brilliant hotel and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is wanting a break in Newquay. Thank you to everyone for making it a lovely weekend break. …
-We loved the view and the hotel is a fab location but that was it. -Loved the little touches for the kids like the cookies and milk, the facilities like cinema etc. Childs farm toiletries. I wasn’t too impressed that the kids squash sachets were out of date. My little boy made a drink and said ‘mum this tastes funny.’ I tried it and it tasted like an oxo cube! -There’s a trunk full of beach toys by the reception but please be careful. I would advise the hotel staff to regularly check over the treasure chest and whilst it’s a lovely gesture/idea, a few of the spades were broken and had sharp bits of plastic. -Fridge in our room wasn’t working properly. -Breakfast was ok. Staff there were lovely. My only complaint there was one morning there were someone else’s lipstick marks on my mug which shows they aren’t cleaned properly and since covid you’d think they would take this seriously. I informed staff and they apologised and replaced immediately. -The cleanliness of our room wasn’t great. There were stains all over the floor and some stains on the wall. The carpet definitely needs a good clean as do the windows. The ventilation is poor and be prepared to have steamy windows after a shower. -We loved that they had a little bath robe for my toddler.. that was a nice touch. -I did not sleep well at this hotel- our room wasn’t level at all and if you have problems with your feet it will impact you as I do and fell over. The hotel seem to think there isn’t though but if you stay in room 102 you will know exactly what I mean. This also impacted the bed.. it meant the bed was raised at one end and it was like sleeping on a slope. This put a lot of pressure on our back and again I raised this with the hotel and they don’t seem to think it’s a problem. My son and husband even used their iPhone to check the floor level and it even showed it was uneven. I even showed the hotel photos because you can even see the gap from the headboard to where the mattress is. -A major health and safety factor was the broken shower head holder. It kept falling down and nearly caused an injury to my 3 year old. It did fall down on me and it was very annoying but we then ended up just holding it ourselves. -The room was very HOT! If you open the window you’d hear all the noise from outside. They should think about having AC. -Website said that if you booked through them you would get a glass of fizz on arrival. We didn’t get any. -Water pressure wasn’t great and it took longer than usual to wash my hair. -Bathroom could have done with a new sealant as it was mouldy in some areas. -Furniture in the room was broken.Drawers literally falling off when you open them. I even took videos of this but sadly it doesn’t allow me to upload them. -Information is not consistent- I asked if there was an iron in the room and their social media team said it was in the guest laundry room yet the customer service team said every room had one. There was no iron in the room. -There is a lovely drinks area near the reception overlooking the sea, almost like a conservatory but I think the hotel really should invest in getting new tables and just giving it a good clean overall. -Parking at this hotel isn’t the best but if you keep driving around you’re bound to get a spot. -It would be nice if staff would ask for feedback or even ask ‘how was your stay?’ Upon checking out. In fact I’ve never actually been to a hotel where they don’t ask this. Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again. I have been going back and forth with their manager because I’m not happy they only want to offer me 25% back. My card company said they could get me the full amount back but I thought I’d go through them. They initially offered 10% back and raised it to 25%. …
We ate in the restaurant one night, I had soup which was warm not hot. My husband had the scotch egg but the sausage meat wasn’t cooked properly. I had roast beef for main, it came and looked great but everything was cold. The gravy was gloopy and set, I bit into a roast potato and that was cold. The waitress took it back and two minutes later brought it back and said the chef had changed it! Still cold and the half a roast potato I’d tried was on it so not a fresh meal at all. The plate got sent back again and this time a new fresh plate of food came back. The waitress said I wouldn’t be charged for the meal. Unfortunately the damage and my opinion was already formed of the restaurant. Two other couples eating by us couldn’t eat their meals as they were cold. It wasn’t even busy in the restaurant so no excuse.…
Had a last minute get away with my partner and baby boy. Genuinely had a really nice time at the esplanade hotel. Lovely view over fistral. Lovely rooms, staff were great and friendly. Only downsides were our room was right next to some stairs and we had kids running up and down all night which is just normal for the holidays I guess and the only other issue was the pool looked very green and lime scaley below water level. Nice hotel otherwise but would be nice if the pool was cleaner and not as cold as it was as we had a baby that we didnt let go in once we tested the temp. Hope the review helps as it genuinely is a nice hotel in a great location.
Fantastic views and good facilities. However the hotel restrictions made for a frustrating and confusing experience. Lacking the holiday feel. Receptionist on checking started raffling off breakfast "slot" times without explanation. Felt like a car auction. I assume If u miss your slot that's breakfast in the dog. Breakfast was crap too, annoying we had to get up for it! Stayed New year Eve and found restaurant closed for function. Could access bar but couldn't use facilities in restaurant. In particularly the children soft play (the reason we went for). Didn't find any information about the function on hotel website prior to booking or when checking in. Asked to buy tickets for the function and the crappy dinner, told it was fully booked. Looked like a wake to me. Rooms decent but poorly finished. Didn't pay for a seaview room but still could see the sea (just) from our balcony which was good. Fridge and phone didn't work and they wouldn't bring iron to my room. They wanted me to take my leopard print thongs throught hotel lobby to laundry room. …
We stayed at the Esplanade with our two children between Christmas and the New Year and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The staff were amazing, the hotel has alot for the kids to do and the extra activities they put on for the children during the school holidays were just great. We will definitely be back to visit.
This is a wonderful Hotel with brilliant staff Food is of good quality and cooked to perfection. There are some themed rooms which are well worth trying out. Indoor swimming pool lovely not cold just good temperature
We stayed here for 2 nights with our 3 year old. It was one of nicest hotels that we’ve stayed in for a while and also very family friendly. The hotel has a soft play, and mini cinema showing films 4 times a day as well as the swimming pool and a little book corner. The weather wasn’t great when we were there but it didn’t matter as there was plenty to keep us all occupied. The views from the restaurant and bar are amazing of Fistral Beach. The room was to a good standard although a little warm. We couldn’t work out how to adjust the temperature. There are also shortbread biscuits and hot chocolate with a jar of marshmallows for the children which was a nice touch. My only things are that there wasn’t a lot of information about what was on at the cinema or the activities. Unless you knew that they were happening, then you would be none the wiser. The restaurant and bar were also pretty expensive esp considering that to eat elsewhere means a car ride. The staff were welcoming although a little rushed. But I have to call out a lovely lady in housekeeping who went to trouble to find 2 bed guards so my 3 year old could use the single bed. She was more than happy to help which was very much appreciated. My only warning would be the parking. Staying in December didn’t cause a problem but I can imagine that the car park and on street parking gets pretty packed on more popular months. But all this aside, we will be back. …
This is my fourth visit here and I was hoping for good things. The hotel has been refurbished since we last came to a good standard. There are some nice touches for children which is well thought out. However, I noticed that the staff weren’t that friendly or hospitable this time round which let it down somewhat, seeing as we have been here many times. The breakfast buffet didn’t have a lot of choice considering the amount of guests that were staying over Christmas. The cooked options were good though. Overall the hotel is clean and well located, well kit out for children but it lacks a friendly, positive staff environment and isn’t entirely value for money as the bar was also quite expensive.
