#1 of 3 B&Bs / Inns in Thornhill
Traditional family owned country house hotel, pub & restaurant tucked away near Thornhill just outside Stirling, serving the finest food & ale since 1635. For the homely touch, we have 3 log burning fires, including a huge open fireplace in one of the dining rooms. The accommodation upstairs is of an excellent standard and the views from the windows capture the essence of being in the heart of Scotland with the magnificent scenery on its doorstep. The Lion and Unicorn is the perfect place to spend a few days soaking up the true Scottish hospitality that we all want to discover. Full of friendly locals, it is one of the few Free Houses left in Scotland, with reasonable prices on beer.

Arrived on a Tuesday lunchtime and were thankful that we'd booked a table in this busy historic inn. Four (or was it 5?) ladies were buzzing around with drinks and plates of food but one still found time to offer a very plesant welcome and show us to our table. Drinks arrived promptly with menus and an explanation of specials. Sadly, after all our planning, we just had time for a light lunch - superb carrot & coriander soup and well-filled roast beef sandwiches. Our only complaint was the home-made bread was sliced much too thinly. The other dishe served to adjoining tables looked very good and obviously tasted good too judging by the appreciative comments. We'll certainly return (with a bit more time) on our next visit to the Trossachs!

Had a family meal here. The food was ok (nothing special) the service was abrupt. A pint of lager shandy was £4.10 - same price as a regular pint of lager. Generally the food prices on the menu are higher than the prices on the website.

We had a great post lockdown family meal here. Staff did amazing to accommodate a party of 10 and a puppy at short notice. The food and service was fantastic. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the neighbourhood and after some decent pub grub
