What a beautiful, unique place to stay! All the rooms are a little different! Ours had a deck with some chairs that we could quietly sit and watch the wildlife go by! They have some fun trails with benches, swings and plenty of wildlife to see! Their made to order breakfasts are very delicious and they put fruit on a platform so the many variety of birds entertain you while you eat! They do a wonderful and reasonable job on laundry! If you don’t mind walking some steep hills, it isn’t too far to walk to town! There is a little grocery store nearby. There isn’t a bar or any entertainment in the evenings.

Having stayed at Cala Lodge in 2019, we chose them again recently in March 2023 - and so happy we did! Situated on lush acreage, complete with resident toucans, coati, monkeys, etc. it was great to be back. The rooms are very comfortable and the lodge offers great breakfasts. We saw the amazing Resplendent Quetzal birds at Cure Cancha. Definitely recommend going with a guide. Also found a great soda in the town's main mall, cooking by two Costa Rican ladies who serve up authentic Costa Rican food at reasonable prices. Thanks to Fransisco Castro Leiton, owner, and Eva Calvo for their warm hospitality and Josette Brenes for her excellent service.

My husband and I booked for a little getaway, absolutely perfect little hotel with amazing views of the rain forest. You could even see stars right from our window. Very comfy bed, clean bathroom, and awesome made to order breakfast (plus a complimentary coffee bar during the day as well). My favorite part was birdwatching right from the beautiful balcony. Highly recommend!

The view from our room (#6) was spectacular! We had a very comfortable night's sleep in our cozy room and enjoyed those views from our balcony. The staff was really friendly and made great recommendations as to where to eat and enjoy our time. While the lodge was close to town, I'd suggest spending time taking a walk around the grounds. Thank you Ava and company for a great time!

A very nice hotel where you get what you’re paying for. We stayed in a nice, clean and spacious lodge with a bedroom and a living room. The breakfast is simple but ok, and while eating you can watch birds and squirrels eat at a feeding stand. There are a few restaurants located nearby, and the city-center is approximately 15-20 minutes walk away. The hotel has a 1 km nice trail you can walk.

Emmanuel is an incredibly helpful young man- one of my clients left a bag at the hotel and he went out of his way not only to contact us, but also to arrange for it to get dropped off at our next hotel, using a network of shuttle buses so it wouldn’t be too expensive for us. Thank you!!

We stayed here due to a change in hotel last minute and we weren’t disappointed. An arrival we saw capuchin monkeys and beautiful motmot birds. We had breakfast during our stay which was a choice which was then freshly cooked. The lodge has its own nature trail which appeared to be looked after. Our room had an incredible view which we could enjoy from our balcony. Bathroom had toiletries which smelt incredible. All facilities were clean and well maintained. The only problem couldn’t get any Wi-Fi from our room. During the afternoon the lodge offers tea and coffee in the breakfast room. There is no onsite restaurant for food other than breakfast. The walk into the village is a lit path all be it dark.

We recently stayed at Cala Lodge as part of a 11-day tour of Costa Rica that we booked. The property is very quiet and feels remote even though there are restaurants only a short walk away. We saw lots of birds, a few coaties, and even an agouti. There's a small path to take a picturesque walk along, and the deck on the main lodge is an amazing place to enjoy breakfast while watching the birds and taking in the spectacular view. The staff were great - friendly and accommodating. The main lodge, as well as our room, was clean and comfortable. Because we were there in the rainy season, our room was very humid, but the beds were comfortable, there were lots of blankets, and the mini-fridge was nice to have. The lodge offered lots of space for our group to gather to visit, play cards, and socialize, and the ever-present tea, coffee, and water was a nice touch. Breakfast included a small fruit plate and the choice of 4 different meal options. Everything we had was very tasty and the portion sizes were reasonable, and you couldn't beat the surroundings, as there were lots of birds to watch while you ate and soaked in the incredible view from the deck on the main lodge. Some of our tour companions had rooms with a deck but our room did not offer that, although we did have a small private patio right outside our door.

The best thing about this hotel is the setting with beautiful views of the cloud forest and a great little trail through the grounds. Our kids loved the swings hidden on the trail. We saw and heard so much wildlife. Free tea/coffee (and sometimes cake) in the afternoon is a nice bonus. Included breakfast was tasty and fresh (the omelette was amazing!). Staff were very friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

+ Location was very pretty. The breakfast options were all good. Room we had (#10) was good size for a family of 4-6 with 2 queens and a bunk bed. Shower pressure was good and there were no issues with water temp. There is also a short shaded trail which winds through the property, there are benches and even a swing. A good spot to see birds and the occasional monkeys. The property is very quiet outside of the animals, you'll wake up to monkeys which is pretty amazing. - Our room did not get much sun and as a consequence everything in the room always felt damp, including our clothes. Not sure anything can be done about that as it is a rain forest environment but know that ahead of time. We suspect an upper floor room or a room in the other building closer to the lobby would not have had the same concerns. Parking was a little tight on our side when all 4 units were occupied. As noted in other reviews, there is no AC or heating in the room but there is a pretty strong fan and all the windows are screened so you won't let bugs in if you leave the louvers open (you'll need to go up on a chair to reach the ones in the front room to open/close them).
