For those of you interested in trekking a volcano, Mount Pinatubo Base Camp at Casa Hermogina is a small simple rustic ancestral home that opened its doors to travelers after Tarlac was decimated by the eruption. Staying here is the perfect experience of what true honest Philippine hospitality is like. From coordinating your accommodations and private tour of the crater, visitors feel the utmost care and concern showed by the owner, Allan from the start. The non flashy yet flavorful home cooked meals make you nostalgic for your grandmother's kitchen. I've traveled all over the world and stayed in various hotels and resorts, Casa Hermogina has the cleanest smelling towels and linens I have ever encountered. And their kind courteous staff from Driver Jay, Guide Nardo, Masseuse Lani, and the adorable server Karen provides the perfect service that makes your stay in this 9 roomed bed and breakfast even more memorable. It's tiny. It's cozy. It's clean. It's affordable. And the welcome you get is heartfelt. And if I can do the Pinatubo Trek, so can you.

We enjoyed our stay here and we felt secured on the tour as well. Their 'Egg omelette with bread toasts' is highly recommended. The host is generous as you can also refill your drinking water at the hotel. The water shower has a working heater. They provided towels (but not toiletries). The tour guide helped us hike and was very patient with our slow pace. He even carried my backpack for me and lent me his trekking pole. The guide also took and suggested a lot of photos and videos for the tourists wherein the host would be sending the soft copies to their guests through Viber.

First stayed here in 2016; returned in 2018; about to go back again as soon as the Philippines opens again... as of April 2021. Its very quiet here; your choice of authentic nipa rooms with air con, or more western rooms. He can arrrange for your trip to the Crate Lake; Land Cruiser will pick you up in front of the B and B; great food and very inexpensive... no need to travel anywhere once you unpack and relax. Karaoke available anytime. Quiet evenings !

I arrived in Hermogina hoping to join a Pinatubo tour only to find I was the only guest! It meant that for my stay the service was pretty non existent - I had to really seek out someone to ask questions, order food, pay the bill etc. All a bit awkward. So it’s not great for solo travellers hoping to meet others. Also both nights I stayed, the many dogs barking constantly throughout the entire night meant it wasn’t a restful stay.

However, in higher season (maybe weekends!) there’s a lot to recommend this place. The beds were clean and comfortable and the showers were hot. Allan was really helpful in trying to arrange for me to join a group tour. At the last minute we found one & Pinatubo was great - very worthwhile. Nardo was a really friendly guide.

I am so happy we chose Casa Hermogina as our base for Capas ATV and Mt Pinatubo Trek. It allowed us to rest our weary bodies from the 4hr road travel from Manila, and we didn't need to walk up at 2am in the morning to the hike.

The owners, Allan and Irma are the best hosts you can ask for. During the booking stage, Allan gave us recommendations and even went out of his way to book services for us at no extra cost. Their family and staff are very honest people who would genuinely help you with your needs.

The guest housis beautiful, with a rustic country vibe set in wood and stones. There is a two storey building you can hang out in that has a hammock and a small nook for having morning coffee or evening beer.

Food was great - they served local dishes in hefty servings, it is higher priced but very reasonable given the remoteness. Of the place.

Overall, our family highly recommends this place, it is a great jump. Off point for your Mt Pinatubo activities. Don't forget to bring cash as credit cards are not accepted here.

We booked a Pinatubo tour for 3. Coming from the outskirts of Angeles, we departed at the crack of dawn and arrived at Casa Hermogina around 6am. BTW, there was checkpoint with armed soldiers that alarmed our driver en route to the property. Upon arrival I was surprised how well kept and nice the place was. If offers several rooms, should you need to stay over night and plenty of common sitting areas. I really liked the decor.

We opted to have breakfast before the trek and Casa Hermogina serves excellent traditional Filipino breakfast. We enjoyed conversing with Allan, the owner. Our 4x4 arrived and off we went. Our guide, Romnick, was great and was very patient.

Summary:
- Booking was easy through PayPal
- Allan was very responsive and even reached out on the morning of
- Romnick walked just the right pace and adjusted accordingly
- We were able to stop to take photos
- The 4x4 was a little older and therefore was probably bumpier than the others we saw
- We got covered with dust on the way back. Plan accordingly.
- Showers were clean and easily accessible.
- Unfortunately, when we arrived, Allan wasn't around and didn't leave instructions to his staff that our showers were included along with lunch. We were all looking forward to having lunch after the trek and it was a big disappointment when the staff was unaware of our lunch and therefore didn't have it ready. Allan was prompt in resolving the situation.

It feels like home. The owner Allan was so kind.He is so caring with his visitors. We arrived super late that evening like 11pm but he really waited for us.He keeps on communicating with us to ensure we don't get lost & we are safe until we arrive there. We stayed overnight at his place because we need to be early for the next day climb. He also made sure that our Mt.Pinatubo trek was memorable & safe.It was our first time to do such kind of adventure. We had so much fun.It was an awesome experience.Plus he gave us discount with the package so I highly recommend him.He got the cheapest package price but got the same offer like the others.Thank you so much Allan for the great adventure.

After trekking Mt Pinatubo we rested here, hassle free booking the owner's are very accommodating . They will assist you with all your needs as much as they can. The rooms are spacious and quiet, its a nice place to rest. Restroom and shower room are separate but in a common area. They have a short menu of delicious foods, you can also order some basic snacks or beer, they have a lots of common area for you to enjoy this.

Answer from CasaHermogina
Tarlac, Philippines8 contributions
GREETINGS FROM MOUNT PINATUBO! We are located at the base camp in Santa Juliana, Capas, Tarlac roughly 28 kilometers to the crater. Pinatubo day tour starts after breakfast or before 7:00 am. Pinatubo trekking is kid-friendly specially with the parents around. Unfortunately, swimming in the lake is no longer allowed. You could being your own food. We do prepare trek lunch when preferred by our guests. The drive from Batangas to Casa Hermogina is roughly 4 to 7 hours-depending on the traffic situation in Cavite and Metro Manila. Day tour for four (4) people is @ 1975php per pax. Thank you! Regards, FOR CASA HERMOGINA: ALLAN I. BOGNOT
