Galoya Lodge is a unique hotel situated at Ampara-Bibile road closer to Indigenous village Rathugala. We spent one day at this place without any disturbances as there are no communication signals here. There are separate cottages / Bungalows sheltered by Iluk and open bathrooms. The mountain called Viyana Hela is seen above the swimming pool and restaurant of Galoya Lodge. Hike to Monkey Mountain is one of the activities can be done from Galoya Lodge. It was an early morning hike but worth to do it to enjoy the real beauty of Galoya Valley. This place is ideal for nature lovers. There are lot of unique items of the hotel including some food as well. The staff was extremely friendly and really appreciate the work of Charlie and Madushan.

A retreat for forest and nature lovers, Gal Oya is a glamping site with the feel of an African safari camp combined with the hospitality of Sri Lanka. The friendly staff and a warm welcome by the manager Anuradha aka Bob immediately made us warm up to the place. The stay was all we had hoped it to be, and a little more. A breakfast organised just for the both of us at Balumgala Rock, the bird walk trail by a nearby village lake with the badass pup Arrack, a night drive to Namal Oya, the boat safari in the truly exceptional Gal Oya national park, a visit to the small research centre and the hike to the nearby rock mountain made our stay both happening and relaxing in equal measure. Having no mobile signals lent it an air of truly being in the lap of nature and relaxed us totally in the four days we were there. While Anuradha went out of his way to help organise various excursions and activities for us, the naturalist Charlie made it extra special by being enthusiastic about each activity, by sharing all his knowledge of the area, by his sensitiveness towards nature, and yes, by clicking snaps and making creative videos of our excursions! A delight. The food at the resort was excellent. The fusion dishes and presentation by the chef was remarkable. The service was friendly and courteous, especially by Manju and Sisira who were attending to us. We hope to visit Gal Oya Lodge again with friends who share our love of the wild.

Such a unique lodge! Rather African-esq in its design and they way they allocate naturalist to individual groups. Saw plenty of elephants and migratory birds (the reason I went). Had a fantastic naturalist who was very knowledgeable (I informed the lodge before hand about my particular interest in birds and I was fortunate to have one of the in-house specialists). Rooms were decent but it’s worth noting it can get quite hot during the day but there is always the wonderful pool to cool off in! Food was delicious. All in all loved my time there.

Our experience at Gal Oya Lodge made us feel like we were at the most exclusive adult summer camp in the world! πŸ• The staff were just so incredibly friendly, but our naturalist "Bob" and our lodge pupper Arrack really made our whole stay extra special! They both took us on a bird watching hike one morning, then a hike halfway up Monkey Mountain the next morning (the hike is no joke! If you're not a seasoned/passionate hiker, you may want to aim for halfway like I quickly realized I would have to... πŸ˜‚). Bob was there to point out wildlife and educate us on each bird and butterflie that crossed our path! πŸ¦‹ And Arrack was there to chase rocks and give us a giggle as we huffed and puffed our way up the mountain - ha! But the most spectacular part of our experience was most certainly the boat safari! We spotted crocodiles and elephants (including a few babies!), but just as we were about to head back to shore, Bob spotted a whole herd of 28 elephants swimming across the lake!! What a majestic sight - wow!! The boat respectfully kept its distance so not to disturb the herd from their crossing, but we were able to see them use their trunks as snorkels as they swam, and watched them reapply their sunscreen (dirt!) once they reached shore. It was most certainly a once in a lifetime experience! 😍When we returned to the lodge, they had arranged a special candlelight dinner just for us, and it was the perfect ending to a perfect day! I cannot recommend Gal Oya Lodge enough. The setting, the staff, the huts, the excursions - it was all just divine! Thank you so much, Gal Oya Lodge!!
