I enjoyed our time at Montemar Beach Club. The food was good and the surroundings were really beautiful and lush. That said, the rooms were very dated (but clean) and the service was more than decent enough but it felt like most were just going through the motions. The attendants by our rooms though, were excellent and very accommodating.

The beach was very clean directly in front of the resort but if you walk to the far end of the beach, there was trash littered everywhere. Also, the last day we were there, the waves were pumping and i really would have loved to surf there. Alas, the beach was close due to the waves. It is a beach club/resort, right?

I can see why people come and enjoy their time here, a nice respite from the craziness of Manila. I am glad that we visited and had fun but I will probably not return.

Home away from home, Montemar has been for us since the late 80s. With the recent renovations done in the rooms it is even better now. The food is good, service excellent.

They do need to spay and neuter the cats around the place as they are populating!

After requiring us to pay for our stay in full, 5 days before we even got there, I assumed that with all the rules attached to booking a room here, that this was a place that would give us premium service with first class amenities. It was an unpleasant surprise to find out otherwise.

Room:
-We paid 6,100 for a deluxe room, garden view.
-The first impression upon entering was that it smelled musky, and slightly like insecticide. Holes and brackets from previous fixtures were still visible. Bedside lamp was grounded -- make sure you wear slippers before you turn it on lest you get 'charged' with extra volts
-Aside from the standard soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrush, you get complimentary 350mL water bottles....and thats it. There wasn't any hot water kettle in the room, nor any sachets of coffee and/or tea. Even though there was a hot/cold water dispenser in the hallway, it wouldn't have been much use unless you brought your own mug/tumbler and instant coffee. Plus it's in an area where the bellboys hang out, so it's not like you can get a glass of water in your swimsuit or pyjamas without feeling self-conscious.
-the 'queen size' bed was actually two twin beds pushed up against each other. unfortunately, each bed was in a wooden box frame, so it left a gap in the middle, where my toddler's foot would get stuck the first time he was playing on the bed. For a party of 2 adults and one toddler, it did not make for a comfortable night's sleep.
-screen door that opens out onto the balcony was not well maintained, it was derailed and stuck in one position. so we had problems trying to get in or out. We couldn't enjoy the 'fresh air' without insects coming in that evening.
- I have stayed in resorts half the price that provide twice as much convenience and comfort.
-good points: decent cable tv, easy to operate air conditioner, lots of storage space, and an in-closet safe. hot/cold shower, balcony laundry rack.

resort grounds/beach:
-sprawling property, lots of trees but...
-Well maintained only in areas that the guests frequent.
-We wandered over to the pawikan conservation area only to find a simple pen and a cement pond. If it was indeed a conservation project, shouldn't there be more than that in their facility? I'll give them the benefit of the doubt because nobody gave us a complete tour and explained everything, but really, from the first impression, it just looks like a farce.
-beach was relatively clean -- thank you for placing trash cans (discreetly buried at sand level)within the area
-'safe swimming zone' was demarcated by buoys.
-beach had fine sand and water was relatively calm. good for swimming with kids.

Food:
-Above average food at la marea restaurant. there was one night where you could have fresh seafoods grilled on the terrace.
-Breakfast was included with the night's stay. They set it up like a buffet. But as it turns out, it's a glorified turo-turo. The waitresses hold the plate and scoop the food for you.
Out of the 5 viands available, you can only choose one, plus egg, plus rice. If you add toast, it's an extra charge. Unless you forgoe your rice and egg, then the toast+viand is your breakfast. A lot of guests were confused and possibly disappointed with these rules. Servers spent a lot of time explaining to and pacifying guests before they could actually get around to scooping their choice of viands on the plate. I suppose they were surprised that with paying that much, they did not have much choice in their breakfast.

Service:
-staff is friendly, welcoming and ready to greet you. I've seen them being polite even to kids who needed help with something.
--They could work on being speedier, though.

Overall, it was a nice enough stay. Vacations for my family are few and far between, and honestly we expected more for the price we paid. Every thing on top of the room and basic breakfast came with high extra charges. If the rates were a little lower, or if there were more inclusions in the nightly rate, we would be fine with all of that. Unfortunately, we did not feel we got our money's worth.

We were elated with premises upgrade while food has been very good yet priced still very reasonable. They allowed our EV car to charge which very welcoming. Rooms have been renovated and looked very smart. Worth the long drive and have been frequenting this place for several years.

The last time I stayed here was 30 years ago. I was very pleasantly surprised to see how well the place has been maintained. The beach is as stunning as ever. Booking a room was slightly complicated, but certainly worth the effort. I relieved my childhood by spending all daylight hours under the sun on the sand and in the water. Got to release some newly-hatched turtles into the sea. The food was excellent, portion size large, the crispy bangus belly was a winner. I will definitely come back, maybe even annually if I can manage it.

Arrived late coz we were warned that there was a power outage and power would resume around 4 in the afternoon. We have no choice with everything prepaid.

Wide menu, but most items not available.

Room service not reliable because if you do not follow up your order, it will never come!

We were looking forward to a beach holiday although admittedly the weather was poor. The place needs better maintenance as it is quite run down. Food from the restaurant is good with great service. Unfortunately, facilities were a let down.

the facilities were excellent but the service and food sucks. they boast of a buffet but limits the amount of food one can consume. the service crew even made snide remarks that is insulting to the cleints. even their junior officers were rude. they are not senior citizen friendly.

I thought the price for a room was worth it because their website photos were amazing.

1. The pool was under renovation, the other pool was for members only, so we had to walk all the way to the other side of the hotel to use the pool.

2. The beach had trash everywhere. The sand wasn't as white as the photos, and the water had floating bottles and food wrappers.

3. Out extra bed ($34) was the already existing sofa in the room. They just put a sheet over it then added a pillow. Voila, extra bed.

4. The room didn't have a TV. It was apparently being fixed, which the receptionist failed to mention until we noticed and asked for it.

5. For a "membership/club/exclusive resort" the lawns weren't well maintained. Lots of bald-patches, the badminton court had grass... tall grass. The playgrounds were rusty. It just looks old.

POSITIVE: You get a van to chauffeur you from the gate to reception.

Overall was not a good experience. The only good thing about this hotel was that they gave us a full refund when we asked to switch from an overnight stay to a day trip.

TL;DR: Will not come back. Ever.
