Finally we experiences this place. Driving to Bataan for me is a breathe of fresh air. Wide roads and peaceful surroundings. Going to this place is very accessible and easy. Upon our arrival, the road to the entrance is bumpy as it is not cemented as well as the parking. Its so muddy especially when it rains. The entry way is so grand and jawdropping as if you entered into a different world. We were transported back in time. Upon checking in, we need to park our car outside and we just have to ride a jeepney or golfcart going to our casa. We waited for 3pm for the check in time. While waiting, we joined a private tour. Unfortunately the weather is so hot and my mum was unable to join the walk tour. The tour was very educational and tour guides were knowledgeable. The place was very well detailed and it was the exact replicas of the old houses and buildings during the old days. Our home for our stay is called Casa Baliuag 2. An old house with a living room and two bedrooms. Each bedroom has 2 queen size beds. Our children was amazed and experienced how does living in a traditional house was like. What we dont like that much is the bathroom. The floor is elevated like you have to take one step higher. My mum had a hard time climbing up and down. No handrails on the toilet bowl for senior citizens. The tv is quite small for the size of the room. But everything was spacious and the bed is comfortable to sleep at. Beside our house is the batis which is an artificial riverlike swimming pool. Roaming around, there were lots of activities to do and to watch. There’s this band parade which was held every 5pm everyday. A play about Jose Rizal/Noli Me Tang ere which you can just watch freely since it’s just outdoor. My son rented a bicycle and we ride a kalesa. Everything was expensive. We swim at batis during sunset. We did the night cruise for 650 per head, quite expensive but it’s worth the experience. Feels like we were in Venice. Dinner at the Italian restaurant. Ambiance is so elegant and there’s an acoustic band playing. Pricey food as expected. Theres a beach where you can swim with a number of beach beds. Breakfast buffet has limited choices. They should add more menu on the table. Overall, this place is good for the young ones, they will going to learn a lot especially, our nation’s history. As for the senior or pwd citizens, it’s going to be challenging for them to roam around or riding a jeepney. You have to call a number for transportation and sometimes they arrive late. But still i want to go back to this place because 2 days is not enough.

Reservations: It was extremely difficult to get in touch with Reservations. The number published does not work. Management has to look into this as they are probably losing prospective bookings. Tried to contact them via FB but received no response as well. On the official website, they advertised the summer promo however when you try to book, the only option is the best available rate. Anyhow, since I was determined to see this place, I convinced my friend to drive all the way from Clark to Bagac and we just walked in. It was a weekday so the chances of Las Casas being fully booked was low. They had rooms available yay! FO could not make a reservation for us off the bat. They also had to call Reservations and it took 30 - 40mins to complete the process. Room Rate: Published rate is 10k a night. Was lucky to have seen the promo they had for 2 nights at PHP 10,000 nett. This included daily breakfast, one Kamayan dinner, 30min massage for two once during the stay and one time balsa ride as well as the heritage walking tour. Considering that the day tour rate is around PHP 2,500, if you have the time and funds, highly recommend booking this. I think this is only available until June though. Front Office: Limuel very kindly helped us however his familiarity was off putting. Though we were friendly, I think that he still has to maintain a certain level of professionalism towards guests. He explained the inclusions of the promo we purchased but did not provide us with a voucher for the dinner. More on this on the F&B section. Resort Transportation: Very sad that the tranvia was not in operation. When we visited, they used a jeepney. Tip - there are golf carts for rent (not offered at check in) at PHP700 per day. You have to call for a jeepney and it would take 10 - 15mins. Can be longer depends on the number of guests that they have to pick up. Kudos to Prince, one of the jeepney drivers. He was very helpful and accommodating. Room: We were assigned a room in the Accessoria area which was beach front. If you are easily spooked, you may not wish to stay lol. Good thing I'm a fan of old houses. Bed was very wide and comfortable. Lighting was more on the dim side. I guess they tried to emulate the period when candles and lamps were used. The room also had capis windows which opened to the estero side. So cool. The toilet and bath was huge with separate shower and bath tub. They had an electric pot for boiling water however there wasn't any outlet near it. The room also only had one rubbish bin and it was inside the toilet. Basic toiletries was also given as well as instant coffee and tea however only two small bottles are allotted per day. Food and Beverage: On our first night, we wandered off and a found the dinner place where they served the Kamayan dinner. Since we were entitled to this once during the stay, we decided to eat there. The server immediately asked for our receipt as our names were not listed. We did not make prior arrangements as we also just arrived. Anyway, he said he will check and get back to us. Since it was just my friend and I, they asked us to sit at a table for two. We kindly asked if we can sit on the bamboo bench/table instead as the table for 2 had monoblock chairs and looked uncomfortable. They said we can sit. Then we were asked again for the receipt. The server asked if we had a voucher for dinner so we said no, we were only given the keycard and the receipt. After this, the server came back with the food. The food was served in a bilao. Fried fish, pork, steamed veg was there and unlimited rice. Since we were famished, we immediately started eating. By the way, there was no place to wash your hands. They only had a water dispenser which the other guests also used. While we were eating, the server came back saying that we were not supposed to be there and that now they lacked food to serve guests who made reservations. As people who work in hospitality, we were appalled that the server approached us to say this. First off, we asked if we can dine there and they said yes. Secondly, they served the food and we started eating. Its not like we can give it back. Third, insufficient food prepared is not a guests' problem. It should be solved internally without the guest even knowing about it. I kept my cool because I did not wish to ruin the stay. This treatment made us feel really unwanted. Then it started to rain so they asked the guests to move to the main dining room. We were the last to move and when we arrived in the area, we were met by the manager. Instead of apologizing and showing kindness to us, he asked if we wanted to bill out. We had intentions of finishing our meal but since we were asked this, how can we continue eating? The receipt again came up and the server said he left it at the beach front. The server said its raining so I will get it later however the manager told him that they had an umbrella so he can go and get it. What?! We were not there on complimentary basis so why did we have to feel like we had to beg for service? Moving on , breakfast served from 7-10am was adequate. They served normal Filipino breakfast food, nothing mind blowing. Would have appreciated it if they served fresh mangoes since it was in season. Apart from this, we decided to dine outside. Be prepared to pay premium prices for food and beverage items. A can of coke was almost PHP200. Heritage Tour: We took a 930am walking tour with a very entertaining gentleman (so sorry now I can't recall his name) . It ended up as a private tour as no other guests signed up. He took us to see around 4 houses . It was a fun way of learning about the resort and a little bit of history. Must do activity if you stay Balsa Ride: We took it on our second night. Almost decided to skip it good thing my friend insisted. Since it was summer, this activity is best done after sunset. The place is all lit up and it looks magical in the evenings. The boatman also gave us a lot of information. Unfortunately the tide was really low so we were not able to visit the houses that are usual stops on the balsa ride. Another must do activity =) Spa: Located in one of the old houses, the spa was a floor above the gym. Oh, there's a pool at the ground level as well. There was a comp 30min massage included in our package. Good thing we scheduled an additional 30min in advance (only PHP700 per person) as 30mins was not enough. The therapists were great and they adhered to our requests on pressure and areas that we wanted to be focused. All in all very relaxing. Boardwalk: Lined with lamp posts, looked gorgeous in the evening though they turn off the lamps just before 10pm I think Beach: Not a fan of black sand. Cleanliness needs to be improved especially in the area where they serve the dinner. A lot of empty bottles just stacked in the corners. Hotel Oriente: We missed the opportunity to visit it. Maybe next time. In conclusion, as a fan of Filipino history, it was a treat to have visited Las Casas. It was like walking in to the pages of a book. It would make you imagine how it was in the past. The houses, streets, bridges left me in awe. I applaud the owner's dedication and greatly appreciate his love for heritage. I am grateful that he has decided to share this to the public. Though a bit far from the metro, its worth a visit. I am only saddened by the poor customer service which makes or breaks any establishment.

Where do I even start?! - Rooms are not well-maintained, not properly cleaned. If cobwebs, stains, dusts, creaking floors and windows are your idea of getting transported back to the past, then this might be for you. - It’s extra hot and humid in this area so naturally, you look forward to relax in a clean and cool room after going around but you won’t get this. We were placed in a room with an aircon that was more like an electric fan. The best part is they’re overbooked that weekend so we had no choice but to suck it up. - The nightmare doesn’t end there. Our toilet had no seat cover! Apparently, someone moved it to another room and they didn’t bother to replace. WTF?! - The idea of a hop on/hop off jeepney is nice but if there are only 1 to 2 of them to bring the guests to and from the lobby (remember they’re overbooked) then it’s obviously madness. Guests are not allowed to bring their car in the compound unless you’re a VIP or you’re friends with the guards. - Room service doesn’t exist in this place. There’s no phone in the room to begin with. You just have to pray one of the hotel staff will pass by your room or call the reception and wait for 8 hours before they send someone over. Nope no one actually came! Your best bet is to look for a hotel staff in the building. - Breakfast at Hotel Oriente was horrible. So many people that weekend and there were not enough staff to clean after dirty tables. The service is like canteen-style. I actually feel bad for the hotel staff (not the ones in the reception area). They try their best but they seem to be not properly trained. Never ever staying in this hotel again. The worst!

The faucets in the bathroom were apparently falling out, the aircon in the bedroom was leaking and many things were not working in the room. Also we were not informed that food is not allowed from outside. Unfortunately the two kids from London have dietary restrictions because of their condition. Yet Las Casas “fined them” 500 pesos per person so they paid extra 3,500 pesos. Grabe.

Las Casas de Azucar Is a definite consideration for a family reunion. The multi-room houses are ideal fothr such occasions. There are several dining options at the resort. Although not specifically designed for a high-activity stay there are definitely multiple potential activities to keep everyone occupied and interested including the boat 2 hours, street car chores, the beach, architectural walks, and resort will arrange for other activities according to the website. If time and budget allow I recommend spending 2 nights/1 full day at the very least; depending on where you are visiting from a day trip will not likely and likely to enjoy most of what Lasa Casas the place has to offer. The main attraction, of course, already transplanted heritage houses many of which were previously in disrepair or under the threat of destruction. The opportunity to visit and hear the stories of each of these classic "bahay na bato" is one note to be missed. At night, after a rain shower, the old houses, streetcar and lamp lights reflected on damp cobblestones evoke a image of what pre-war old Manila might have been like a century ago. The houses are beautiful, each with its own unique story. The guides were well-versed in the history of the buildings and communicated this well. Las Casas provides countless opportunities for beautiful pictures. The resort, while definitely picturesque, manages to avoid being too contrived, too Disneyesque as it were. Our Casa Binondo had spacious rooms, efficient airconditioning and surprisingly spacious bathrooms. The interior was equally as interesting at the exterior evoking a long-gone era. There were TVs in each bedroom but were never watched them. The beds were comfortable, and we all slept well. The stairs were wide and easy to climb but grandparents remained on the first floor. We generally enjoyed our stay and have good memories of our time there. That being said Las Casas promises a lot, comes with commensurately elevated prices and so our expectations were natrurally equally high. Unfortunately, it does not deliver on all counts, with some more critical than others. First impressions count and unfortunately ours was not a good one. It was a fairly chaotic seen at the main administrative building in mid-afternoon as the staff tried to process multiple vehicles and families trying to check in and check out. Staff found a reservation but could not seem to find a key for our house. After a fairly long wait at the building our family was transported to our house. We waited there with her luggage before a staff or finally showed up with a key. All in all it took almost 2 hours to get into our building. Further grandparents in the group this was an uncomfortable wait. While the tour guides were generally excellent, the helpfulness and friendliness of administrative and dining staff was more inconsistent. It was not easy to get answers and guidance at times. The most glaring examples were with the checking in/out process and with arranging specific tours. The food was reasonable but not particularly memorable. Breakfast at Binondo Hall was OK. We enjoyed dinner at Kusina ni Nanay Maria and La Bella Teodora. The beach was wide and clean. The waves were strong making swimming far from shore dangerous and the lifeguards kept whistling guests back to the beach. It was good to see fish in the river suggesting the water was relatively clean. The communal pool was in need of repair and better maintenance. The water was murky. The wood deck was falling apart, warped, and potentially a source of splinters. There is ongoing construction as the resort continues to expand. While most of the construction is taking place away from the current center at the resort there is clearly sight and sound of construction vehicles occasionally adversely affecting the ambulance. Clearly there is perceived demand for what the resort has to offer, but given the clear inability to provide top-notch service experience at its current size 1 can only help administration will improve staff selection and training to provide the high level experience gas to expect and deserve.

We stayed 3 days. The architecture of the old homes relocated there is impressive. There is still lots of workers painting and repairing. Rooms but the function can be hit or miss. The toilet seat in my room did nor set even. Getting water was good most days but not all. Some mornings the best you got was luke warm. Breakfast was buffet. There was a number of choices but no breakfast meats like bacon or sausage. The omelette station was equipped but not manned so the only eggs were a watery scrambled. The number of restaurants on site but the Italian was closed and it appeared to be closed for some time. The tapas was ok except they were out of a number of menu items. There was no wine list you went up a picked out a bottle as none by the glass. What I thought was a 1,000 pesos was really 2,000 pesos. It needs a strong hotel general manager to get to reach potential as maybe a four star resort.
