Set on Barbados' beautiful South East coast, the oldest operating hotel in the Caribbean has effortlessly married the old-world charm of its past, to all the 21st century amenities and services expected by today's most discerning travellers. Guests are spoilt for choice with ultra-spacious one and two-bedroom suites, and three bedroom penthouses, many featuring lush gardens, private pools and rooftop terraces. There are also several fantastic dining options, including Zen, the No.1 Zagat rated restaurant in Barbados, which features Thai and Japanese cuisine, L'Azure which offers Caribbean delicacies with an international flair, The Carriage House which offers poolside favourites, D'Onofrio's, the Italian restaurant and The Grove Bar and Grill on Crane Beach which offers light grilled fare. The centre-piece of it all is The Crane Village - 55,000 sq. ft. of retail space complete with duty-free shopping, a Jazz bar, open-air dining, a fitness centre, day spa, an art gallery and the newly opened Calypso Kid's Club catering to younger guests. Guests also enjoy complimentary WiFi in all guest rooms and around the resort - even on Crane Beach - and complimentary long-distance calls to most international destinations.

We stayed at the crane for 5 day whilst isolating and had 2 days not isolating. I thought they were fantastic in keeping pre and post test result people apart. Hand sanitesers dotted about. A king breakfast delivered to the room each morning. And once out of quarantine access to an amazing beach. I just wish they had a pool guy as all the pools needed a bit of TLC. All in all a great stay.

It seems they want your money but not actually your presence. I imagine this is temporary but this is the current experience. I would avoid Barbados at this time. There is a very long testing delay much more than 24-48 hours most of the guests staying with us have been at least 7 days so expect 10 plus days of quarantine. If you stay here I would recommend booking your own test and not using onsite Dr. The followup and care is lacking and she is overloaded with testing try Dr Brown instead a private Dr. Our friends that did this at another resort had much quicker results and the cost was less in the long run even though they chose a more expensive property. Pros: Large rooms (some with small private pools) and gardens. Room Service is not amazing I would avoid ordering from this menu, Zen and the Italian restaurant was lovely even take away was fantastic so imagine the dining experience is great. House Keeping staff were very nice and were always accomodating. Cons: Staff overall are generally rude and unhelpful. Some staff were lovely (Those taking in room dining orders and those delivering are kind and friendly), others are very unhelpful and very rude particularly check-in and reception and those booking tests. Unless you happen to be standing next to the GM otherwise the attitude is almost one of resentment. You no longer have access to any resort facilities and can't leave your room a Barbados government directive. Expect difficulty getting through on the phone to anyone, you will have to call many times and then expect to have to try calling back multiple times after the request is ignored.

The location is magnificent but the management is awful So sad. The resort boasts that it has been around since 1887. It fells that way. Trying to contact any one operator front desk or room service requires the patience of job! Most times wait for 15 minutes and then be disconnected. Telephone produced by Alexander bell requests for replacement ignored. Critical covid result not reported for a day. But the staff are great Chantelle check April front desk chaunte concierge Robina maid. Even Jeffrey the manager tried. Check in was hideous incompetent slow and understaffed not the way to begin after a long flight. But we would go back for the rooms - desperately in need of redecorating the location and the facilities. Assuming the covid rules revert to sense which they were not when we left. Check carefully or be locked in your room for days. It falls far below the standards of a hilton alas. So I could not rate it. So good potentially and so disappointing but we had a good time!

Response from Chris Forbes, General Manager at The Crane Resort
Responded 5 days ago
Dear andrewgG3269AQ, Greetings from The Crane Resort and Barbados! Mr. A.G., although we did not meet while vacationing here last month, I have received your letter sent electronically. Thank you. First, thank you for the mentioning of the team members as they are truly the pulse of any establishment and in particular that of this resort and island. Second, the architectural decor is with keeping with the original style, but modernized. Can it be improved more? Absolutely!! And to that goal The Crane Resort is working towards during the years 2021 and 2022. The COVID-19 Pandemic has placed several projects on hold and as you have recently experienced, it changes rapidly. We as a global society MUST get a hold of this virus in order to have some level(s) of normalcy in the future. Now with the recent governmental changes for Arriving Guests to the island and the unfortunate delays in receiving the second PCR Test results has, and is, matter of great concern for the island's tourism industry. The Government of Barbados has implemented new temporary protocols till the matter, and safety of all, is under further control. The test delay is due primarily to the spike in requested PCR Tests for both Visitors and Local Citizens. Now the government has assured, and the resort is experiencing, once again timely turn-around times for the mandated 2nd PCR test. As for your possible return in February 2021, there are no guarantees that there may be delays of test results along with the in-room quarantining relaxing. What we can assure you is that based upon your booking, you have a lovely 28ft pool, great views, wonderful climate that time of year, and friendly staff. Still not a bad way to quarantine initially, then enjoy the shops and restaurants of the island. In closing, sincerest apologies for any and all inconveniences you experienced last and we hope you will decide to make that leap of faith next month so that we can be your hosts once again. We Welcome You! Kind regards, Chris Forbes General Manager

We were due to spend our 2 week vacation at the Crane but left after 5 nights (should have left sooner). As stated in previous reviews, the Crane is definitely cashing in on “quarantine stays” and has no interest in longer staying guests. Once we received our second covid test result (which after 3 days we got ourself direct from the lab as the hotel just kept saying there was a delay) we were not allowed to use any of the large pools as these were allocated to the “blue wristbands” who were waiting for their results. We were only allowed to use a small, dirty pool that was not fit for humans. Most guests only stay at the crane until they received their negative test and swiftly moved to different accommodation. We had numerous problems (too many to list) but we never found one member of staff willing to help us. We spend many hours in reception with other unhappy guests trying to get issues resolved. We escalated our complaints to senior management who once again fobbed us off so we too packed our bags and moved to Sugar Bay Resort, best decision we ever made. The rest of our holiday was spent having the best holiday ever with the most accommodating and friendly staff. We were so excited to stay at the Crane based on photos and reviews but would certainly not return or recommend.
