Detailed Reviews
My wife and I had a pleasant Valentine's Day excursion at the Coral Beach Club and I will say a bit more about the resort than I usually do.
Our first reaction was that there is a lot stuffed into a relatively small space—six buildings with 26 guest rooms, a dining/recreation area, a pool/jacuzzi complex, and a parking area—in 2200 square meters with a 40 meter beach front. Closer observation showed that the resort is well laid out and the plan produces a family-friendly resort with something to entertain virtually all guests. Plus, the resort does not offer day passes so the facilities are never overloaded.
As we settled in, we noticed that our room and the facilities are exceptionally clean and well maintained. Linens and towels appear fresh and new, while necessary items (water, instant coffee, soap, shampoo, toothpaste) were delivered to our room every morning.
The resort fronts on a public beach which is swept twice a day. Uniformed security officers prevent loitering, while vendors promoting banana boat rides, snorkeling, and floating bamboo platform rentals are courteous and helpful. Prices seem to be set by the LGU so there isn't much point in negotiating and there is little danger of being over charged. We rented a floating bamboo platform for a day (P1500) and couldn't have been happier. When necessary, the vendor trooped to the store for us and moved our platform on request so we could see more of the coral,
The dining/recreation area deserves special mention. The staff are uniformly friendly and helpful, and the menu is a delight. There are items for every taste and budget: kiddie hot dogs up to adult priced steaks (which are imported from the United States). For Valentine's dinner, my wife had a tasty rib eye steak while I enjoyed a wonderful salmon filet. Breakfasts were included with our package and my wife and I both enjoyed the Full American Breakfast. Staff members were able to add a couple extra pieces of toast and an extra cup of coffee when I asked.
The facilities are smoke free, but designated smoking areas are conveniently located throughout.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to return with friends and family.

Very nice paint resort. Everything kept very well and well built. One main reason for us to come here is the extensive menu for the restaurant. Very European influenced. We spend here only one night so we had afternoon snack, dinner, breakfast and lunch. All excellent. Premises is safe, well kept. Rather up to date, solar everywhere. Rooms are very adequate and everything works. It comes with a water heater, TV with 130 channels, small ref. The pool is nice with comfortable water and we were only one there to enjoy it. Matabungkay Beach is like a local town beach. In the evening many locals flock to the beach to play in the sand or play volleyball. The Resort is at the side end of the beach. I read many reviews saying the beach is dirty and many peddlers, but at our time of stay there were none, and beach was clean, especially in front of the resort. The sea is not quite for easy swimming. The water is shallow for a long distance and many floating cabins await you for renting and spend time on the water. Good for kids though. So, if you are in for a day or few to unwind and relax, fancy good food and a cold beer, this is a great place. This is not a long stay venue. It is rather remote in Batangas and great for 2, 3 night tops I would reckon. Unless your are a goody and really don't mind to unwind, hehehehe.

One problem, we were in Oceana, the shower is block and the smell of the toilet is awful every time you flashed it , hope they will look on it . Thank you 😊.

For over 30 years our favorite out-of-town place in Batangas 🙂.
Over the years constant improvements in the facilities and the rooms, but still has the same 'old' feeling. Plus seeing again the smiling employees (like Girlie at the reception) , it is like coming home

We stayed here for 2 days and i did not like the attitude of the manager. She was so rude and not pleasing to clients. On our first day, i asked for some beach towel and she told me straight, 40 pesos. I did not know their policy yet because we just arrived and were waiting for our room to be cleaned... No toiletries, no beach towels included, charging you everything, and most of all not the rate that are published on the net. Not enough facilities. and the place so small. It's not worth it to go back there. Be warned!!!

We are deeply sorry to hear that you may have been offended by the manner in which the hotel staff spoke to you. However, I cannot think who may have spoken to you in that manner. We like to foster friendships with our guests. Guests are not just a number to us. Every single guest is important. That is one advantage we have being a small and cozy resort which we like to keep this way. It does say on the beach towel wrapped in plastic that there is a charge when opened. I am sorry to hear you did not take advantage of the free facilities of the resort. Just to clarify, we do not charge for everything. The room comes with 2 free bottles of water daily, free coffee amenities, free soap, free shampoo (free toiletries), plus free use of all the resort facilities such as the swimming pool, Jacuzzi, billiards, beach volleyball, beach soccer, beach badminton, Frisbee, floating noodles, boogie board, chess, plastic ball, tandem bike, mountain bike and sunbathing mats with giant umbrellas. All these are not charged at all. It is often standard procedure for all resorts and hotels to charge for extra amenities. We would like to encourage our guests to give us direct feedback when they visit so we can improve our services and the quality of their stay. Thank you.

Such a waste of a good place. Joey the supervisor is nothing but unrespectful and quite condescending. If she is always angry, she should not be in the hoapitality business. Filter your staff...replace Joey for the resort business to flourish.

The coral beach club of Matabungkay Beach is cosy and clean. The resort is comfortable welcoming and secure, the rooms are clean and well arranged, Internet access (WIFI) is possible upon getting the password from the front desk, and browsing (21st century syndrome) while laying low on the front porch, or on the Bermuda grass while looking at the sun set is absolutely possible.
During our stay we were the only mixed group, all other guests were foreigners (nothing wrong with that), the ambiance is relaxed and calm. The pool is quite small so if you are looking into swimming you may opt for the sea although there lay a major caveat. The sea is obstructed with rafts; the coastline is a mixture of pumpboat, cumpit and rafts. This is not at all an idyllic view. It is pure chaos. The resort has however a strip of sand and water unobstructed but that is where lovers of the ocean will ponder on the quality of the resort. You may have to walk a few hundred meters if swimming is your thing. And for those few hundred meters, you’ll walk knee deep trying to avoid sea urchins, broken coral, and residue of past littering! I counted and collected more than 64 plastic, can, bottles and other non-biodegradable products from the shoreline to a distance of 200 meters towards the deeper parts. That is sad considering that a fee is asked by the local government from each visitor in order to maintain the area clean. That is even sadder considering that indeed a garbage truck passes daily and collect garbage. But this is after all a public area, not a private beach, most people are coming for the day, park the car for P200 the whole day and rent a raft for P1500 the whole day, they come in huge group eat on the raft (food homemade or bought locally) swim, splash, rest and enjoy the day at sea before returning to their home at sundown… Nothing wrong here but discipline being what it is no wonder litter is found everywhere.
Trying to relax on the grass on Transat chair is difficult as locals will come every now and then trying to sell fruits, food, souvenirs, day on the raft, and so on. And since the resort is small you have to either pretend to sleep, retreat in your room, or politely fend off those beach vendors.
The resort however is nice and the cleanliness of the room does improve greatly the experience. Would it be nicer if the sea were more welcoming? Yes. The resort is cheap but unless you are a complete stranger and delight in visiting Taal, Tagayatay of Batangas, there is absolutely nothing there you keep you entertained for more than a day.
Will I go back there? no.
Going to a beach resort without being able to enjoy the beach is an anachronism.

Thank you for your review, we're happy you like our resort. The busiest week of the year was during your stay and the beach outside is chaos for that week. You did not get to see it at its best but it is not always so crowded. Things are improving, as you mentioned the daily garbage truck collection along the beach but it doesn't stop trash going into the sea we are aware of this problem and working with local authorities to help remedy it. We hope you return during a quieter time. Thank you again for your stay.

It's Summer Time! A perfect time to indulge once again in the warm embrace of a water under the sunny sky. Doing almost a week or two of researching via web/internet as to what and where would be the proper place to stay…a place that’s economical/affordable yet impeccably fine to spend our summer spree, and with a number of beaches in Batangas to choose from, we ended up with THE C0RAL BEACH CLUB in Lian, Batangas. Due to the guests’ positive reviews and comments about this beach(as we have read in the web “Hotel Reviews”), we then decided that “this is it!”..Coral Beach Club, here we come!=) True enough, staffs were friendly, rate accommodation is cheap, and rooms are nice. We really had that wonderful time in the C0RAL BEACH CLUB if not only this thing happened…this awful thing happened.
"We had an overnight stay from April26@1pm till April27@12noon in THE C0RAL BEACH CLUB. We occupied the FIESTA (standard) room. It’s the room near the entrance and the guardhouse. This room has a jalousie window fronting the CR and near the vault.
The surrounding in THE C0RAL BEACH CLUB was very quiet making me feel comfortable and secured, giving me the feeling of confidence that we have the utmost privacy most especially in the FIESTA room where we were. I was thinking that in the room “I can be myself…I/we can do whatever we want without being cautious/conscious that someone might see, I can simply be ME. Not until past 11:00AM on April27(we are sched to check-out then), when after taking a bath that I decided to dress up in front of the master bed, I happened to look at that window near the CR only to realize that there was someone watching me from the outside...The curtain was a little bit opened and I saw something/someone moved the moment I laid my eyes on that window. It was then that I told my husband there must be something/someone behind that window, there must be a peeper. Immediately, my husband went outside to see what’s behind that window. Upon entering the area/place beside our room, there was two male maintenance staff talking. The one who’s tall and skinny tried to prevent my husband from going inside saying “Sir, bawal po pumasok dyan” but my husband ignored him and went straight ahead on the inside and he was just surprised to see that there was still a SMALL DARK R00M which according to the staffs were their stock/maintenance room. It’s very deceiving because there is concrete wall that looks dead end but as we tried to penetrate the place, we saw that there is still a small dark room on the inside. Aside from that, there were other things we discovered that justifies our suspicions and led us to conclusion that true enough, there is a PEEPER.
1) That small dark room located from the very within behind the jalousie window of the fiesta room has a two(2) monoblocks chair and a monoblock table in between (I mean, the room was too dark, too small, and there was no ventilation, so no one could bear to stay there unless they’re doing something nasty)…and they have the chairs so that they can relaxly watch their victims.
2) The lowest part of the screen on the jalousie window was obviously torn intentionally (partly ripped) for the purpose of V0YEURISM, so that they can see clearly their victims occupying the FIESTA room.
3) When I touched the lowest part of the jalousie window, I was shocked that It was no longer attached to its mounting clip. I can hold the glass up and down using one finger. It looked as if the window was okay but it wasn’t, then again, the peeper found a way to make his bad feats possible.
4) The Two (2) male maintenance staff (the tall-skinny man and the other one) who was just pretending to be talking when my husband went outside immediately disappeared just as when I went to tell Ms. Gina(the receptionist) regarding the incident.
With our findings, "how come that the management of the C0RAL BEACH CLUB knows nothing about all this? I mean, they should have done the same thing as that of the other side window of the Ligaya Room wherein the window was sealed with a plywood so there would be no possibilities of peeping. Don’t they have the regular inspection in all the areas of their beach resort? The peeper must have been doing this for a long time and it just so happened that I became the instrument for the discovery of the truth…that there’s a V0YEUR(Mamboboso)/PEEPER in THE C0RAL BEACH CLUB.
I am sharing this experience for everyone to learn…to be cautious and vigilant wherever they go.
Check, inspect, examine.
Learn N0T to trust because THINGS ARE N0T ALWAYS WHAT THEY SEEMED.
But in case you plan to go to the C0RAL BEACH CLUB, by all means, go ahead! 0nly, please check the rooms most especially the FIESTA R00M. The Management promised us that S00N, the place will be renovated. Well I just hope that it would be done not just soon but the S00NEST. I was requesting the C0RAL Management to have that window be cemented for the meantime or temporarily so as to avoid the possibilities of this incident happening again but they told me that they have close the 0FFENDING R00M until further investigation is done. Am just after the welfare of the succeeding guests of the C0RAL who know nothing of this incident, so please tell your friends/loved ones about this… Be concern, let them BE AWARE!

We booked our room as a walk in. They charged us 4,000PHP for a Premier room which is 500PHP more expensive than their top holiday rate for that room. It was advertised as 3,500PHP as their top rate on their website and by their front desk! The bed was very hard, practically the same as sleeping on the floor. The bathroom had huge cracks and the walls and door were dirty.
The WiFi was unreliable and kept slowing down to an unusable speed.
I had a massage in the spa. I asked for the Hilot (traditional Filipino massage) however that is not what I got. It seemed like the girl had very little training. I asked her to concentrate on my shoulders which she didn't do and I still had a headache when she finished. The massage was 600 pesos for one hour however she only did 40 minutes! I noticed when I walked in to the massage room that the clock was set 20 minutes fast, which I thought was odd then I realised they do that so that when you finish the massage, it is on the hour and you think you have had an hour. I confronted her about the short massage to which she replied it was an hour by her clock and I pointed out it was only 9.40pm by my watch and I had arrived at 9pm by my watch. She only took 100PHP off the price and I was fuming.
The beach is average and you are unable to swim in the water as the water is shallow for quite some distance from the shore.
The food is ok but quite expensive.
I would not go back here, I had a terrible time and felt completely and blatantly ripped off.

I would not go back here, I had a terrible time and felt completely and blatantly ripped off.

Response from GinaJavier, Manager at The Coral Beach Club
Responded Jan 16, 2015
We are sorry that you were not made aware of the different holiday rates whereby Christmas and New Year is our peak season and this rate is higher than regular holidays. Regarding the WiFi, we do apologize but we are reliant on the external Telecom companies for our WiFi services and the quality of service is beyond our control. Again we are sorry about the massage service, if we had know at that time we could have addressed the matter and compensated you. We like to encourage our guests to give us direct feedback when they visit so we can improve our services and the quality of their stay. Thank you.
