My son and I went to San Juan, Batangas last Friday, October 28, 2011 without any reserved accommodation anywhere. For some reason I always go out of town on an impulse and worry about a place to stay once I get there. While traveling towards San Juan very early in the evening, I noticed the hotel sign and decided right on that it is going to be the place away from home for a couple of nights. Our main destination is Laiya and San Juan will be our base point. We went in and made an inquiry. We chose the Viajero room so as not to spend a lot on accommodation and use the extra money to spend for some other things. The staff was truly friendly and helpful. We were the only ones in the Viajero unit, and although it doesn't have a T.V., the guests could use the common T.V. area near the unit. My son brought a portable DVD player and so it wasn't a problem at all. I really liked the location, so close to nature -- tweeting birds, blowing winds, rattling leaves. It was quite nice and enjoyable stay. Of course breakfast was included with a choice of continental or Pinoy breakfast. Both were very good. The gate closes at 7 p.m. so you have to call the staff to open it. Laiya is only about 23 kms from the town proper. We decided to avail just the day trip package (entrance, food, nipa hut, and the use of the facilities) at the resort and and made a return trip to Bahay Marikit in the early evening. The resort place is in the secluded area a little farther from the main Laiya coastal strip. The experience was great and it was a very relaxing day at the resort. I had an opportunity to unwind even for a short time. By returning in town, we were able to explore the town --- had coffee at the Cafeno, had "tulingan" and "ihaw-ihaw" and special "lomi" at a carinderia. Also, we had to see the their famous church, made more famous because of the two celebrities who got married there. Well, talking about Bahay Marikit it is a place I can recommend to anyone and if ever I return to San Juan and its environs, I would already know a very good place to stay.

My family booked the "Filipiniana" room. Rate is reasonable. I'm actually a local of this town and im very impressed that the tourism industry has gone up.
This is my first time to check in and use a hotel room here in san juan. I brought along my two kids and wife of course. We were allowed to check in early before the standard check in time. Room was big! There's a loft too! A/C is alright. Beds, i suggest they should at least put a bed pad and two bed sheets plus a thick blanket. Batroom was a turn off! Too much wasted space and the toilet flush was not working properly. Water pressure was low and i dont think hot watet was working that night. They have cable tv, good reception. Why not install a dvd player and dvd discs for guests to borrow. Not too much activity for the kids. Pool was not that clear in the morning. I'm very particular about swimming pools because I maintain one in tagaytay.
They don't have a phone inside the room.
I arrived from a party late at night and the main gate was padlocked! We were not informed about it. ATTENTION: Front Office, should have advised us about that rule. Where was the security guard? I dont think they have one. Are we safe inside?
Great landscaping but bad maintenance! Weeds and dry leaves scattered.
Resto needs a makeover!
There's more room for improvement for this small hotel.
Thank you to all the staff!

Bahay Marikit is truly a paradise in the city. It was my first time to visit the place since all the laiya beach resorts were fully-booked during the lenten season. It may not be located beachfront, but it's only 15-minute drive away from the Laiya White Beach.

Its pool is not so deep, advisable for family trips, where you can bring your kids. Cottages are big enough for family outing.

The food is good. Very very affordable! For as low as P85, two persons can enjoy their pansit bihon. Foods are served hot and fast. Their main dishes are delicious as well.

The staff are very accommodating. Imagine, there were only seven staff who serve you courteously. They take your instructions carefully and do it with pleasure.

The rooms are nice. Spacious and clean. Bathroom is big enough with hot and cold water, of course.

It's like a forest because there are lot of trees in the area. Though it is located along the highway, the noise of the vehicles wont bother you at all. The place is very peaceful. Parking may not be that nice though.

If you are after getting a good rest, Bahay Marikit is the place for you.

Had some work to do at the nearby Batangas Racing Circuit so this was the best place around here. Got the Tijuana room which looks nice but was surprised to see that some items were left ignored when the housekeeping made up the room. For example, light fitting with no bulb, no telephone but phone wire still hanging there, TV not plugged in.

The toilet was much drearier. A dying cockroach on the bathroom floor!! Housekeeping got rid of it quickly but still. Later on there were many baby cockroaches so don't want to be there when they all grow up!

Since we had to leave early (530am) to be at the circuit, I'm glad the staff were helpful in preparing breakfast for the crew that early in the morning.

Generally can't complain about the stay. Was out most of the day so didn't get to try any other amenities of the hotel.

We looked for a place for some peace and quiet in during the Holy Week (had to stay away from the overly-crowded and noisy beaches in Laiya) and wow, we've found this enclave of serenity and great accommodation (plus great food) just in the outskirts of San Juan, Batangas. Can't wait to go back!

I used to race at the nearby track (no noise don't worry, not too close), and I've been coming here for years and years. A revisit saw it almost exactly as it was when it first opened.

I have nothing but good words to say about the owners and management and staff.

They all make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible and are quite detailed in that manner.

The large pool is clean, but avoid the summer months as nearby residents sometimes crowded.

The rooms are larger than you would expect and everything from the AC to hot showers are in perfect working order. The area is safe and guarded, parking is ample.

This is alright for couples, but more ideal for groups and families.

Custom meals? Just ask! But their Kare-Kare is a must try! Actually everything on the menu is great!

Again, everyone is unbelievably nice. This is also a superb jump off point if you wish to take a day trip to the beaches in San Juan without the bloated costs of most resorts there and just hang for a day pass.

And the aforementioned track is 20-30 min away in case you wish to catch the local automobile and motorcycle racing scene. Or if you are there for a track day, this hotel is perfect.

Thank you, Bahay Marikit!

A Mexican inspired resort in Batangas. Good place for an overnight, especially if you are going to a nearby beach in Laiya Batangas. Decent pool. Good water pressure at the bathroom. Efficient aircon. Clean beds. Nice rustic interiors from the lights to the side tables, cabinets and dressing table. Wide open spaces. Food prices are reasonable. If you are a photographer you may have a lot of photo subjects here. A good variety of flowering plants. They say it used to be a coconut farm, wish they had a coconut dish specialty. Uncrowded. I think the owners likes the place to be uncrowded and a bit hidden.
A short drive (10mins) to a historic catholic church and a quaint coffee shop in an ancestral house. Around 30mins to Laiya beach resorts.

Areas for improvements: They need to do something about the flies. Flies attract frogs. They need to plant citronella plants or other plants that is effective at keeping flies and mosquitoes away. The bathrooms need an upgrade. The design of the bathroom was supposed to have a airy outdoorsy feel, but it doesnt give you that clean feeling, nor does it ventilate the bathroom well; smells stuffy and wet hot air gets trapped in. The bathroom dries well during the hot season.

They should do a tie up with Laiya beach resorts especially during peak season.

I am a VERY BIG fan of their pork barbecue! And especially their boneless crispy Pata!! Their Kare-Kare tastes so good as well and their food is very reasonably priced. Their restaurant has A LOT of electric fans all over so the heat is not that much of a problem.

The hotel itself is very picturesque. You literally can take photos of every nook and cranny because the design was beautifully done. Their pool is a free form pool and is very inviting. The whole hotel is nature-inspired. The rooms are mexican-inspired. Their room rates are very reasonable. They don't have peak or off-peak pricing which, in my opinion, is a good thing. I am a fan of their courtyard rooms and also appreciate that they have Viajero rooms - which are their cheapest rooms pricing-wise.

Bahay Marikit is great for corporate events as well because they have a function room that can fit 50 persons. Their hotel restaurant is very spacious. I think it can fit about 200 persons or more so it's also perfect for wedding receptions and other functions. The resort is also very family-friendly and perfect for groups of friends.

They are about 10 minutes away from the San Juan church and about 5 minutes away from Pure Gold supermarket.

I WILL DEFINITELY keep coming back!

We went to Bahay Marikit with around 10 couples and five children and we found the staff friendly. They attended to our needs right away and even offered to extend a hand even in the late hours. The pool was just enough to take run around and watch the kids. The rooms represent each a theme - my husband and I stayed at the Medieval suite with another couple with us occupying the second floor. I like the way they transform every piece of furniture to suit the concept of the room. The bathroom space was fine; not too spacious nor too small since I prefer no empty areas in hotels. The shower room has this small lanai where I felt being watched from the other suites while I was having a bath. Everything was fine until the power interruption. Apparently, they had no gen set or had one but it was not enough to provide electricity to all the rooms.
